Worth a reported $30 million, it’s likely that Lady Gaga’s Tif- fany diamond necklace claims that title. (The previous record was held by Titanic actress Gloria Stuart’s $20 million Harry Winston blue diamond, inspired by the movie’s Heart of the Ocean.) But that was actually not why this particular diamond necklace sent jewelry experts into a frenzy on Oscar night. “T I T A N I C 3 D” “Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams. And it was. It really was...” In 1997, James Cameron’s TITANIC set sail in theaters -- and one of the world’s most breathtaking and timeless love stories was born. The film’s journey became an international phenomenon as vast as its name, garnering a record number of Academy Award® nominations, 11 Academy Awards® and grossing over $1.8 billion worldwide. On April 6th, 2012, precisely a century after the historic ship’s sinking and 15 years after the film’s initial theatrical release, TITANIC resurfaces in theaters in state-of-the-art 3D. Upon its original release, TITANIC was celebrated for transporting audiences back in time, right into the belly of the R.M.S Titanic in all her glory and into the heart of a forbidden love affair entwined with the ship’s epic collision with human arrogance, nature and fate. Now, the leading edge of 3D conversion technology has allowed Oscar® winning director James Cameron to bring moviegoers the most visceral and dynamic screen experience of TITANIC yet imagined. The artistic process of re-visualizing TITANIC in three dimensions was overseen entirely by Cameron himself, along with his long-time producing partner Jon Landau – who both pushed the conversion company Stereo D literally to unprecedented visual breadth. Cameron guided them to use the latest visual tools not only to intensify the film’s sweeping race for survival, but to reveal the power of 3D to make the film’s most stirring emotions even more personal.

  • 3 Extraordinary Women
Three Extraordinary Women Temple B’nai Shalom, Braintree Rabbi Van Lanckton Saturday, February 4, 2012 - 11 Shevat 5772 – “Women’s Shabbat” Anne Scheiber lived a long and quiet life, but she left an enormous and inspiring legacy. Anne Scheiber was born in Brooklyn in 1893. Or maybe 1894. Nobody is quite sure. Her father lost his money in bad investments in property. He died young, leaving a family of nine children. Her mother became a real estate agent to support the family. Ms. Scheiber attended secretarial school. She got a bookkeeping job. Later, she went to law school at night. She joined the IRS as an estate auditor. She passed the bar to become a lawyer. She worked at the IRS for about thirty years, until 1944. She was 51 years old when she resigned from the IRS. She had only one address in her adult life, a rent-stabilized studio apartment on West 56th Street in New York City. Her home had no luxuries. The paint was peeling. The furniture was old. Dust covered her bookcases. She walked everywhere. She almost always wore the same black coat and matronly hat. She never married, never even had a sweetheart. After her retirement, she seldom left her apartment. With one exception. She would regularly put on her old black coat and old- fashioned hat and leave her apartment for one purpose: to visit her broker. By the time she left the IRS she had managed to save $5,000. She invested all of it in the stock market. Over the next fifty years, she parlayed that $5,000 into a portfolio that included holdings in Coca-Cola, Paramount and more than 100 other stocks.
