Albright is chair of Albright Stonebridge Group, a global strategy firm, and chair of Albright Capital Management LLC, an investment advisory firm focused on emerging markets. Albright was the 64th Secretary of State of the United States. In 1997, she was named the first female Secretary of State and became, at that time, the highest ranking woman in the history of the U.S. government. As Secretary of State, Albright reinforced America’s alliances, advocated democracy and human rights and promoted American trade and business, labour and environmental standards abroad. From 1993 to 1997, Albright served as the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations and as a member of the President’s Cabinet. She is a professor in the Practice of Diplomacy at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. She chairs both the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, the Pew Global Attitudes Project and serves as president of the Truman Scholarship Foundation. Albright serves on the U.S. Department of Defense’s Defense Policy Board, a group tasked with providing the secretary of defense with independent, informed advice and opinion concerning matters of defense policy. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Board of Trustees for the Aspen Institute. In 2009, Albright was asked by NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen to chair a group of experts focused on developing NATO’s New Strategic Concept. On April 26, 2012 President Obama announced he was awarding the Medal of Freedom to Secretary Albright - the nation’s highest civilian honor - citing the inspiration her life is to all and that her scholarship and insight continue to make the world a better, more peaceful place. Albright is the author of five New York Times best-sellers: her autobiography, Madam Secretary: A Memoir, (2003); The Mighty and the Almighty: Reflections on America, God, and World Affairs, (2006); Memo to the President: How We Can Restore America’s Reputation and Leadership,(2008); Read My Pins: Stories from a Diplomat’s Jewel Box, (2009); and, her most recent book, Prague Winter: A Personal Story of Remembrance and War, 1937-1948, (April, 2012) in which she tells the story of Albright’s experiences and those of her family during and immediately after World War II, providing a fresh lens through which to view some of the modern era’s most tumultuous years. 05 Profiles Councillor Gordon Matheson, Leader, Glasgow City Council Gordon Matheson is a member of the Labour Party. He joined Glasgow City Council in May 1999, as the elected Councillor representing Merchant City ward. After re-election in May 2003, Gordon Matheson was appointed a Bailie of the City and a Justice of the Peace. In 2007, Councillor Matheson was re-elected for a third consecutive term, this time for the re-organised Anderston/City ward. He was appointed Executive Member for Education and Social Renewal, and joined the Court of University of Strathclyde. In 2009, he was appointed City Treasurer. He was elected Leader of the Council on 10 May 2010. Councillor Matheson was appointed Chair of the City Marketing Bureau in June 2010. In the May 2012 local government elections he led the Scottish Labour Party to victory, securing an overall majority on Glasgow City Council. As Leader, Gordon Matheson has established the Commonwealth Jobs and Graduate Funds; committed Glasgow to bid for the 2018 Youth Olympics; launched a major revamp of George Square; approved a scheme to reduce Glasgow’s landfill by 90%; introduced winter fuel payments to pensioners; and embarked on the refurbishment or rebuild of every school in the city. Councillor Matheson is a graduate of both Glasgow and Strathclyde Universities, is a chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. The Rt Hon Michael Moore MP, Secretary of State for Scotland Michael Moore graduated from Edinburgh University in 1987 with an honours degree in politics and modern history. He subsequently qualified as a Scottish chartered accountant. Following Sir David Steel’s retirement from the House of Commons at the 1997 general election, Mr Moore retained the Tweeddale, Ettrick & Lauderdale seat (expanded to include Penicuik) for the Liberal Democrats. In 2005 he won his current seat of Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk. Since 1997 he has held a number of posts, most recently Shadow Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs 2006 – 07; Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland and Scotland 2008 and Shadow Secretary of State for International Development 2007 – 10. Lady Susan Rice CBE, Managing Director, Lloyds Banking Group Scotland & President, SCDI Previously Chief Executive then Chairman of Lloyds TSB Scotland, Lady Rice was the first woman to head a UK clearing bank in 2000, and became the first woman to be appointed President of the Scottish Council for Development and Industry earlier this year. Alongside her roles as both a commercial banker and Bank of England non-executive director, Susan is also a member of the First Minister’s Council of Economic Advisers. A founding non-executive of Big Society Capital, and previously of Charity Bank, Susan has helped develop numerous social finance models in the US and the UK. In the arts, she chairs the Edinburgh International Book Festival and Edinburgh’s Festivals Forum, and works extensively with Scotland’s National Galleries to ensure a vibrant cultural base in the country. Susan is also a non- executive director of SSE plc, the UK’s largest producer of power from renewable sources, and through the 2020 Climate Leadership Group, Susan helps lead cross-sector collaboration on reduction of carbon emissions. She is also founding chair of a new Board which is creating, for the first time, professional standards for bankers throughout the UK. Alongside a number of honorary degrees, Susan is a Regent of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh and a Fellow of the RSA, the Chartered Banker Institute and of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. 07 Scotland’s International Awards 2012 The Accenture Award for Outstanding International Achievement in Green Energy This Award will be presented to the company, or organisation, which can best demonstrate international achievement in Green Energy specifically showcasing Scottish expertise in sustainable development. The BP Award for Outstanding International Achievement in the Oil & Gas Industry This Award will be presented to the company, or organisation, which can best demonstrate significant international growth in the oil and gas supply chain market. The Brodies LLP International Award for Innovation in Product or Service Development This Award will be presented to the company, or organisation, which can best demonstrate product or service innovation which has made a significant impact on its ability to win work in international markets. The Deloitte International Award for Excellence in Exporting This Award will be presented to the company, or organisation, which can demonstrate how an innovative export initiative has led to distinctive growth in the last 12 months. Glasgow Caledonian University International Award for Outstanding Achievement in Business This Award will be presented to the company which can best demonstrate a track record of outstanding achievement in the global marketplace.
