Overall characteristics: - throughput – 7,5 mil. tons per year; - maximum vessel size (DWT) – 75 000 tons; - total length of conveyer lines – 3 687 m; - capacity of conveyers and equipment – 3 000 (loading in vessels) and 1 500 (other technological operations) tons/hour; - ability to perform simultaneously technological operations in any combination. Simultaneous loading of 3 ships and unloading railway wagons in 2 unloading stations. Reception of cargoes: - Length of company’s own railways and approach lines - 5 981 m; - 2 wagon unloading stations -- 1st – capacity approx .350 wagons./day, handling up to 18 wagons, simultaneous unloading – 12 wagons; -- 2nd – capacity approx. 100 wagons/day, handling up to 25 wagons, simultaneous unloading – 2 wagons. Storage of goods: - 1 arc type warehouse with 2 sections – up to 100 000 tons of fertilizers; unloading – 2 kratzer cranes with capacity 1 500 t/hour each; - 4 dome type warehouses with capacity 10 000 tons each, unloading – reception bunkers in the floor, mechanical vehicles; - simultaneous storage of 6 types of fertilizers. Loading in vessels: - Berth Nr.4: length 295 m, depth – 14,5 m, draught – 14,1 m; 2 shiploaders with capacity 1 500 t/hour each; - Berth Nr.4а: length 356 m, depth – 15,5 m, draught – 14,1 m; 1 shiploader with capacity 3 000 t/hour; - Total intensity of loading on vessels– up to 6 000 t/hour and 40 000 t/day. Politicaly stable situation Port and terminal are situated in the Member state of European Union and NATO, from 1 January 2014 – in Euro zone. Latvia is interested in transit of Russia’s export goods. Ice free, deep port Lower freight rates and cheaper sea transportation of cargoes – there is no requirements to use ice class vessels; ability to load the maximum DWT vessels. High intensity of loading Transhipment up to 500-700 thousand. tons per month, unloading of up to 450 railway wagons per day, handling of Panamax size vessel in three days – terminal allows to receive the economy on freight (Panamax vs. Handysize) and to get the premium for fast loading in vessels (despatch). Low costs of loading. Developed storage of goods Ability to storage separately 6 type of fertilizers. Coordinated transhipment of cargoes of Uralkali and Belaruskali
Advantageous total distance from producers to port of Ventspils and the high capacity of JSC Kalija Parks allows to handle the largest export markets by uniting of the cargo flows. It could help to ease the logistics and to form large vessel parties to decrease the total costs of transportation. Potential for further development Ability to enlarge all nodes of the terminal – warehouses, berths, wagon unloading stations – increase of total capacity up to 8,5 mln. tons of fertilizers per year.
