Audi MediaInfo Motorsport Communications Danielc Schuster Tel: +49 841 89-38009 E-mail: [email protected] www.audi -mediacenter.com/en Audi customer team wins Formula E season opener • Difficult start for Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler factory team • Envision Virgin Racing clinches first victory for the Audi e-tron FE06 • Second race of the season starts tomorrow (on Saturday) at 3 PM (CET) Diriyah, November 22, November 2019 – Sam Bird with the Envision Virgin Racing team clinched the first victory on the debut for the Audi e-tron FE06 in the Formula E season opener. Daniel Abt and Lucas di Grassi from the Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler factory team had a difficult start and finished without points in Diriyah. Tomorrow, they will have a new chance: the next race on the outskirts of Riyadh starts at 3 PM (CET). With a riveting race marked by plenty of tactics, the new Formula E season kicked off in Diriyah on Friday. For the first time since the series started, the Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler factory team with Daniel Abt and Lucas di Grassi finished without points in the opening race of the season. Due to its strong championship positions last season, the German-Brazilian pairing had to go out on the still very dusty track in the first two qualifying groups and were only able to achieve the fifteenth and nineteenth place on the grid. In the race, di Grassi made up six places to finish thirteenth. Daniel Abt was also fighting back, when he was touched by a rival which damaged his front wing causing him to hit the wall.

  • A Royal Performance from the MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV in England
INFORMATION PRESSE Londres, le 28 juin 2015 2014/2015 FIA FORMULA E CHAMPIONSHIP London ePrix A royal performance from the MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV in England Rain and some thrilling battling mark London weekend The Teams’ crown goes to e.dams-Renault Nelson Piquet Jr (NEXTEV TCR) claims the inaugural Drivers’ title The inaugural FIA Formula E Championship concluded in style, with e.dams-Renault clinching the Teams’ title after Race 1 on Saturday, June 27, thanks to the lights-to-flag victory of pole-winner Sébastien Buemi. The Swiss driver’s points haul of 28 points closed the gap to leader Nelson Piquet Jr to just five units ahead of Sunday’s action. That understandably boosted his confidence, and it was lifted further when Buemi benefited from a dry qualifying slot (Q2) for Race 2, whereas title rival Piquet was slowed by a heavy shower during Q3. For the first time this season, the drivers faced wet conditions but the MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV rose to the occasion to provide the necessary grip. “We’ve been waiting for this sort of weather since the beginning on the championship,” says Serge Grisin, manager of Michelin’s Formula E programme. “We designed the MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV to be a very versatile tyre and we finally got the opportunity to see how it performed in a wet qualifying session on Sunday. Technically, that was very important because we wanted to collect data and get feedback from all the drivers. Now we know we met our objective because we received positive praise from everyone.” The wet session shook up the start order for Race 2, with Stéphane Sarrazin (Venturi) claiming pole position and title challengers Buemi and Piquet starting from sixth and 16th places on the grid respectively.

But the ability to find and analyze relevant data is a challenge. Ahead of each city E-Prix, Envision Virgin Racing drivers Sam Bird and Robin Frijns spend hours in high-fidelity simulators, practicing for each race, learning the braking points, where to accelerate, and how to manage energy. The team could examine the data from the simulator runs, but would struggle to uncover deep insights into lap-time performance that the drivers could learn from. And it’s not just insights into Robin and Sam’s driving strengths that the team needed.

A magnet for tourists from around the world, London will provide the 20 drivers competing in the all-electric series to showcase their skills to a big crowd. The British are famous for their passion for cars and motor racing, and this weekend’s Formula E double-header is poised to bring them plenty of exciting action thanks not only to the quality of the field but also to the innovative technology featured on the cars. With only two races of the inaugural championship remaining, the fight for the Drivers’ crown features six men: Nelson PIQUET (NEXTEV TCR), who currently tops the order, Lucas DI GRASSI (Audi Sport Abt), Sébastien BUEMI (e.dams-Renault), Nicolas PROST (e.dams-Renault), Jérôme D’AMBROSIO (Dragon Racing) and Sam BIRD (Virgin Racing). Meanwhile, still in the running for the Teams’ title are e-dams-Renault, Audi Sport Abt and NEXTEV TCR who are provisionally first, second and third. After featuring concrete slabs in the streets of Miami, the former Tempelhof Airport’s taxiways in Berlin, smooth but highly abrasive asphalt in Monaco and high humidity levels in Malaysia, the final clashes of the championship look like they will take place in mild sunny weather in London.
