Daniel Abt and Lucas di Grassi from the Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler factory team had a difficult start and finished without points in Diriyah. Tomorrow, they will have a new chance: the next race on the outskirts of Riyadh starts at 3 PM (CET). With a riveting race marked by plenty of tactics, the new Formula E season kicked off in Diriyah on Friday. For the first time since the series started, the Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler factory team with Daniel Abt and Lucas di Grassi finished without points in the opening race of the season. Due to its strong championship positions last season, the German-Brazilian pairing had to go out on the still very dusty track in the first two qualifying groups and were only able to achieve the fifteenth and nineteenth place on the grid. In the race, di Grassi made up six places to finish thirteenth. Daniel Abt was also fighting back, when he was touched by a rival which damaged his front wing causing him to hit the wall. -

The last time the DTM saw such a close finish was 24 years ago. “The race was pretty entertaining,” said René Rast, who had to fight hard for his first victory of the season – especially against pole sitter Robin Frijns. The two brand mates clashed in the first corner after the start. “I had to drive through the grass in Turn 1, and also afterwards the fight with Robin was pretty hard. We pitted early to react to an undercut of Robin and Marco (Wittmann). I knew that Nico would come in the end on fresher tires. Our strategy was brave, and it got pretty tight, but fortunately it worked for us.” Nico Müller didn’t get a perfect start from second on the grid. “There was more grip than I expected,” said the Swiss. “When René and Robin did some rallycrossing in front of me, I briefly had a clear view. -

The Swiss driver’s points haul of 28 points closed the gap to leader Nelson Piquet Jr to just five units ahead of Sunday’s action. That understandably boosted his confidence, and it was lifted further when Buemi benefited from a dry qualifying slot (Q2) for Race 2, whereas title rival Piquet was slowed by a heavy shower during Q3. For the first time this season, the drivers faced wet conditions but the MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV rose to the occasion to provide the necessary grip. “We’ve been waiting for this sort of weather since the beginning on the championship,” says Serge Grisin, manager of Michelin’s Formula E programme. “We designed the MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV to be a very versatile tyre and we finally got the opportunity to see how it performed in a wet qualifying session on Sunday. Technically, that was very important because we wanted to collect data and get feedback from all the drivers. Now we know we met our objective because we received positive praise from everyone.” The wet session shook up the start order for Race 2, with Stéphane Sarrazin (Venturi) claiming pole position and title challengers Buemi and Piquet starting from sixth and 16th places on the grid respectively. -

The Audi driver won the season finale at Hockenheim with his Audi RS 5 DTM in commanding style and once again wrote DTM history: No driver has ever managed to win the title three times in his first four years. “It’s too good to be true,” said Rast after crossing the finish line in the final race more than ten seconds ahead of his title rival Nico Müller. “We have achieved more than I would have ever dared to dream of. With 24 victories, I am now the most successful Audi DTM driver. We won our third title, and that after a year that was very difficult for us. In the first half of the season, we did not have the pace. Nevertheless, we achieved podiums and scored enough points to stay close to Robin (Frijns) and Nico (Müller). At Zolder, we lit the fire, won four races in a row and arrived at the final weekend in the lead. With a strong performance in qualifying and in the race, we won the title today. The car was simply fantastic. I didn’t have the slightest problem. -

Press Release MAY 20, 2017 Renault e.dams win the Paris ePrix Earlier this morning, in cold temperatures, Seb Buemi topped the timesheets for Free Practice 1 with a fastest laptime of 1:01.998s. The Swiss driver was drawn in the first qualifying group and for the second consecutive time, he grabbed pole position. His pole lap was six thousands faster than his rival JeanEric Vergne. Nico Prost took his spot in the second qualifying group and qualified ninth on the grid after Oliver Turvey’s penalty. When the lights went out, both drivers machines survived intact after a tight first corner. After a few laps, Séb Buemi managed to build a margin back to Vergne. Antonio Felix Da Costa and Lucas Di Grassi were involved in a close battle for P14 until the Portuguese driver hit the ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport driver from behind which caused a full course yellow, which saw most drivers seize the opportunity to do their mandatory car swap. Séb Buemi remained calm and managed to maintain his lead ahead of Vergne and José Maria Lopez. On lap 34, a mistake from the Frenchman saw him in the wall which brought out a safety car. At the restart and with twelve laps to go, Séb Buemi put his foot down and Lopez was unable to catch him. There was a second and final safety car period as Di Grassi pushed a bit too hard which resulted in his car ending up in the wall at Turn 8. In the final stages, the race finished under the safety car and saw Séb Buemi triumph for the fifth time from six races. -

MEDIA INFORMATION ABB FIA Formula E Championship 2019/2020 BERLIN E-PRIX – Rounds 8 & 9 Michelin lowers the pressures for a more exciting race in Berlin Just days after the 2019/2020 ABB FIA Formula E Championship resumed last week with the first two of the six Berlin E-Prix planned over a period of nine days, the teams, drivers and Michelin were back in action this weekend at the German capital’s former Tempelhof Airport for Rounds 8 and 9 which proved just as entertaining. After boosting his chances with victories from pole position on Wednesday and Thursday, Antonio Felix Da Costa succeeded in his bid to clinch the 2019/2020 Drivers’ crown today (Sunday) in his Michelin-equipped DS Techeetah, with two rounds remaining. The combination of the Portuguese driver’s second place and the win of his team-mate Jean-Eric Vergne on Sunday has also made sure that the Constructors title will go to DS Techeetah. “Congratulations to Antonio Felix Da Costa and DS Techeetah on their extraordinary performance,” said Jérôme Mondain, the manager of Michelin’s Formula E programme. “It’s been a challenging season and it hasn’t been easy to maintain a strong, consistent rhythm, but this is the first time the Formula E Drivers’ title has been wrapped up ahead of the final round. Michelin Motorsport is delighted to have successfully provided the drivers with a tyre that has been up to the high standard demanded of it and enabled them to focus on their racing.” The weather for both of this weekend’s e-prix was hotter than it was for Rounds 6 and 7, with air and track temperatures in excess of 30°C and 40°C respectively as the 24 drivers lapped the same 2.355-kilometre, 10-turn circuit as last week, but this time run anticlockwise, which is the layout they have become familiar with over the years.
