Charlie Barnes has made it another step closer to the Major Leagues. The former Sumter High School and Clemson standout pitcher was recently promoted to Pensacola, the Double-A af- filiate of the Minnesota Twins. The left-hander was called up from Advanced Single-A Fort Myers to Pensacola and has already made a start for the Blue Wahoos, who are a member of the Southern League. The 23-year-old pitched five shutout innings in Pensacola’s 6-3 loss to the Mississippi Braves on Thursday. Barnes allowed just four hits and one hit batter while striking out seven. Barnes was having an incon- sistent season for Fort Myers when he was promoted. He had a 3-2 win-loss record in eight starts, but owned a 6.51 earned run average. In 37 1/3 innings of work, Barnes al- lowed 42 hits while walking 20 against 35 strikeouts. Barnes, who was selected in the fourth round of the 2017 MLB draft by the Twins, spent the entire 2018 season with Fort Myers.
