The three restaurants picking up stars all opened since Michelin last handed out honors in September 2019. The four losing their status have all closed during the last year. Auction Napa Valley 2010 Men’s Team Chefs Bios: Saturday Lunch at Meadowood Octavio Becerra of Palate, Los Angeles Octavio’s culinary career was inspired by a chance meeting with Chef Joachim Splichal during the summer of 1984. After that profound encounter, Splichal mentored his young protégé, first in the kitchen of Max Au Triangle restaurant in Beverly Hills, and then in France and Spain, where Splichal arranged for Becerra to work for two years in some of Europe’s two and three star Michelin restaurants. Shortly after Becerra’s return to the US, Splichal opened Patina Restaurant and Becerra again joined his mentor. Just one year later, he was named executive chef of the renowned restaurant. Together, they then opened the first of the Pinot restaurants, Pinot Bistro in Studio City, with Becerra as the executive chef and partner. Since then, Becerra has been instrumental in the success and growth of The Patina Group, playing a major part in the launches of each new restaurant. As Vice President, Chef and Co Founder of The Patina Group, Becerra supervised the daily operations of 12 of the 30 plus Patina Group restaurants. Becerra’s fingerprint on the culinary identity and brand of The Patina Group played a vital role in the evolution of The Patina Group. Becerra has also accumulated accolades from the critics. The James Beard Foundation nominated him twice for “Rising Star Chef of the Year”, he has been featured in Bon Appétit magazine, and Nations Restaurant News featured him as one of the nations “50 New Taste Makers.” After sixteen years, Becerra departed The Patina Group to pursue his own venture. -

GUEST CHEF – MICHAEL SYMON Chef Michael Symon cooks with soul. Growing up in a Greek and Sicilian family, the Cleveland native creates boldly flavored, deeply satisfying dishes at his restaurants: Lola, Mabel’s BBQ, Roast, Bar Symon and B Spot. Most recently, he opened Angeline, an Italian restaurant in Atlantic City named after his mother. Michael also shares his exuberant, approachable cooking style and infectious laugh with viewers as an Iron Chef on the Food Network and as a co-host on ABC’s The Chew. Since being named a Best New Chef by Food & Wine magazine in 1998, Michael and his restaurants have been awarded numerous honors: in 2000 Gourmet magazine chose Lola as one of “America’s Best Restaurants;” in 2010, Michael was the first chef ever to host the annual Farm Aid benefit concert; Bon Appetit magazine included B Spot on their list of “Top 10 Best New Burger Joints;” B Spot’s Fat Doug burger won the People’s Choice award at the SoBe Wine & Food Festival. In 2009, Michael earned The James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef Great Lakes and the Detroit Free Press named Roast “Restaurant of the Year.” Michael made his debut on Food Network in 1998 with appearances on Sara’s Secrets with Sara Moulton, Ready, Set, Cook and Food Nation with Bobby Flay, before being tapped to host over 100 episodes of The Melting Pot. PRESS INFORMATION 27 September 2019 FIVE NEW ONE-STAR RESTAURANTS RECOGNIZED IN 10th EDITION OF MICHELIN GUIDE CHICAGO Michelin today released the 2020 edition of The MICHELIN Guide Chicago. Michelin inspectors, who have been dining anonymously around Chicago for more than a decade, recognized 25 establishments that have been awarded one or more Michelin stars, including five new one-star restaurants. “Our inspectors are especially impressed by the high-end Japanese cuisine available in the West Loop,” said Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the MICHELIN Guide. “We have five new one-star restaurants in the 2020 MICHELIN Guide Chicago, each of which demonstrates a fine attention to detail and serves high-quality, top-notch cuisine.” Kikkō, a tasting counter secretly tucked away in the luxe cocktail den, Kumiko, earns one star for 2020. Executed by chef de cuisine Mariya Russell and overseen by Oriole’s Noah Sandoval, culinary highlights include sashimi, house-made tofu and seared mackerel with creative, clever touches. Chicago veteran chef B.K. Park earns one Michelin star with Mako, an impressive omakase offering a strikingly beautiful procession of sushi, while chef Sangtae Park’s Omakase Yume, an intimate spot where diners enjoy high-quality food at a good value, also earns one star. Located in the former Grace space, executive chef Mari Katsumura and team at Yūgen serve up a thoughtfully composed dining experience, where contemporary cooking is influenced by Japanese flavors and techniques that creatively reflect the chef’s personal experience. I was first involved with Our House in 1991, when I volunteered as a breakfast cook, and I’ve loved its mission – “Inspiring people with HIV/AIDS to live well” – ever since. Dive into margaritas in Mexico. And do all this right here in Portland, with kindred spirits all backing the same great cause. Many years ago, as a teenager, I was treated to a very special dinner. The place was on the dark end of a street near the docks, in an old tavern building built in the 1800s.
