T’was the night before Christmas (well maybe a day or two after) When all through the shop Not a car part was stirring Not even the top Stag parts were hung by the fireplace with care In hopes that some new bits would soon be there The engines’ all nestled on it’s engine stand With visions of pistons and valves and cams And my Wife making dinner and me in coveralls Hoping that engine sound will one day enthrall When the doorbell did ring and a box it did come With all the parts to make the car run So now I’m a working and working and working…. And dream of the day that the car will be running. Spring will be coming and we’ll be of good cheer To all I wish a Happy New Year!!!

Triumphantly Yours, Joe Ientile [email protected]

The Somerville Cruise Night has always been an established yearly event for NJTA. In the summer months the town offers a great cruise every Friday night on Main Street. The street is usually filled with classic cars, cus- toms, and hot rods. In addition to music entertainment (DJ’s and groups) there are plenty of cafes and other shops available for everyone to enjoy. Specialty car clubs are featured on East Main Street in front of the Som- erset Courthouse.

July and August 2012 brought a lot of heat and rain. NJTA’s scheduled Somerville Cruise Night on July 20 was a washout. We contacted Somerville and were lucky to secure a rain date on August 17. The weather held up for most of the night although a couple of us experienced some rain on the way home. It was still an im- provement over the 2011 cruise which felt like the hottest day of the century.

This year had thirteen NJTA cars show up plus a few other British cars that decided to join us. We had a TR2, TR3’s, TR6’s, a TR7, and a Hillman Minx from the club. There were a couple of Austin Healey’s and a TVR to round out the British showing. Please watch for our 2013 calendar on www.triumphs.org for next year’s event. It’s a great event for the entire family.

See you next year,

Ross LoMonaco Touch of England - June 2012 (revisited)

New Jersey Triumph Association Touch of England 2012

The weather did not start out as well as we hoped. Aside from a brief and light drizzle we didn’t have much rain at the show. There were reports of heavy rain in Frenchtown, NJ and Westchester, NY early in the day. We still managed a very good turn out of cars. By the end of the day 35(+) trophies were presented to those that braved the early clouds.

This show has always been the premier British Car Show in Northern New Jersey. In spite of the questionable weather, we had cars as far as Ohio and Vermont in attendance.

NJTA has been making it a priority to have enough door prizes on hand so everyone has a chance to win some- thing. This year was no exception and a many people were impressed with the prizes offered. I think everyone received a door prize (or two) be the end of the day.

Many people really enjoy this show because of the well kept grounds at The Hermitage. The setting offers a lot of shade and the cars are parked on the grass which is a welcome change from the usual steaming hot asphalt and blinding sun that seems to be the norm at most shows. The Hermitage is a National Historic Landmark and house museum that incorporates a stone house that was visited during the Revolutionary War by General George Washington. I’m not sure George would have appreciated that much British Iron at his doorstep during his visit (with speakers playing music classified as “British Invasion”) ……………….sorry Mr. Washington!

Please visit our web site to see a list of Sponsors and Class Winners. www.njtriumphs.org

There were many NJTA volunteers that helped to make this year another success for the club. Special thanks to Emery Duell and Bill Smith (and Ken Blair who filled in for Bill the day of the show) for organizing the show. I would like to thank everyone that attended. We hope to see you again in June 2013!

Ross LoMonaco NJTA President Touch of England - June 2012 (revisited) Letters…

Hi, I received this wonderful Christmas Card in today's post from Inge & Arthur Williams, club members of TR IG Sudwest, Germany. The period illustration is of the most famous Triumph TR in the world, TS2, sporting her 1953-73 Irish registration num- ber IR-6360 'on tour' in Cornwall UK in 1953 & possibly being driven by her 1st owner Dr Brendan Patrick O'Hara the dispensary doctor in Tullamore, County Offaly, Ireland. This is a wonderfully evocative image from a period 6 decades ago. The half-cab coach, Bedford lorry & Land Rover add to the patina of this superb scenario featuring TS2. Enjoy... Happy TR-ing, Pat MacMahon, Secretary, TR Register Ireland, TR Register Club of The Year 2011,

Hi folks,

I'm delighted to send you a link from Cork City & County Film Archive of a selection of cars & motorbikes on a local speed trial on a closed public road in Co Cork in the mid 1950s.

Included are a very smart looking Limerick registered TR2 TI-7171 plus a collection of the locally assembled beautiful 2-stroke DKWs.

Note the uncle of our TR Register Ireland club member Jack Epstein, Dr Leslie Spivack driving his XK-120 in this film.

Enjoy this fine piece of nostalgia from Ireland in the 1950s… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxfIzE262WA&feature=em-share_video_user
