About Kas Kastner and the Kastner Cup R.W. “Kas” Kastner was a well known producon car drive in the late 1950’s winning mulple class championships in his 1958 Tri- umph TR3A in both California Sports Car Club and SCCA compeon. Kas started the USA Triumph Compeon Department for the Triumph factory in the early 1960s. He authored the Triumph Preparaon manuals for the Triumph factory in the 1960-1972 era of producon car racing. Kas was the Motorsport was the Motorsports Naonal Manager for Nissan of North America from 1986 thru 1990. He then moved on to be Vice President, Operaons, of the new Nissan research and development facility Nissan Performance Technology Inc (NPTI) in Vista, California. At this facility Kas and his team of over 225 experts were responsible for the design, development, con- strucon and racing of the Nissan prototype cars predominate in the Internaonal Motorsports Associaon (IMSA) series of road racing events. During this period he lead the team of Nissan Pro- totype cars to four consecuve Drivers Championships for Geoff Brabham and three consecuve Manufacturers championships for Nissan. -

The MJCast (Jamon): Jonathan 'Sugarfoot' Moffett worked with Michael Jackson and the Jacksons as their tour drummer starting in 1979 with the "Destiny Tour", and continued to work with them later for the "Triumph Tour", the "Victory Tour", Michael's 1988 Grammy Awards performance, the "HIStory World Tour", his "30th Anniversary" shows, and, eventually, "This is It". MJCast (Q): Not only did Jonathan Sugarfoot have the honor of collaborating closely with the Jacksons, but he has also toured with artists such as Madonna, George Michael, Prince, Elton John, and Lionel Richie. MJCast (Jamon): Jonathan, it's an honor to have you here on the MJCast how're you going? Jonathan Moffett: I'm doing pretty good—I've been doing pretty good. A little mistake in there—I'd never toured with Prince. I've worked in a studio [where] Madonna and Prince [were] on the same song "Keep it Together", so I've never toured. I don't want misinformation to get out there, so I've never toured with Prince, although he has asked me about touring with him, which never just came about because he was at a lot of the after parties at the Jackson shows, Elton shows, and cameo shows, and he'd speak to me and give me a combination of performance and he asked me about playing with him, but it just never happened. -

May/June 2020 the Oily Rag The Newsletter of the Vintage Sports Car Club of Calgary THIS TOO SHALL PASS! 1 Editor’s Comments Like the rest of you, I have been stuck in my house for the last several weeks broken only by the occasional visit out to the garage when the weather is warm enough that my tools don’t freeze to the touch. Fortunately the monotony of the days was broken by the birthday of my Jaguar which turned 49 years old on April 29! According to The Jaguar Heritage Trust, the car was dispatched to New York City on June 2, 1971. It still wears Signal Red paint, chrome wire wheels, and the seats are clad in Connolly black leather. The paint has been refreshed and the headrests re-stuffed but over all it wears its years better than its owner! Despite its six month sleep, it started on all 12 cylinders after 15 seconds of cranking which allowed the fuel to reach the carbs. Once warmed, it idled smoothly and insisted on a drive down the highway to stretch its legs. The view over the hood did not disappoint and I was pleased to find that the adjustment I had made to the kick-down switch worked perfectly and a prod on the gas peddle shot the RPM from 2200 to 3500 with a satisfying push and a muted snarl as it downshifted. As I drove down the residential street towards my home, I was rewarded by a teenage boy hollering “Cool car!” as I passed. -

Washington and the Great War
Over There: Washington and The Great War May 4, 2014 to January 18, 2015 This award-winning exhibition commemorated the 100th anniversary of World War One, one of the largest and bloodiest conflicts in history, where over 70 million military personnel were mobilized around the world and more than 10 million combatants and 7 million civilians were killed, including several from Washington, CT. Over 100 men and women from Washington, and more than 150 alumni and faculty from The Gunnery served in The Great War. Students in Bart McMann's Artifacts and Archives class at The Gunnery, along with Tom Burger, the 2012-13 Gunn Scholar, conducted research on their school’s involvement in the war and shared their findings in a section of this exhibit. Letters, pictures, and an interesting array of period artifacts from the museum, local families, and collectors, including Peter Tragni and Dr. Robert Jacobs, among others, were used to explore the dramatic experiences of Washington's soldiers, along with the extensive support efforts that were happening on the home front in Washington through such organizations as the Sister Susie Society, the Red Cross, the Women's Land Army, and the Home Guard. All of their fascinating stories were shared in this exhibit and a diverse series of public programs (see below) through the year, sponsored in part by the Connecticut Community Foundation. Art director Chris Zaima, designer Sandy Booth, and painter Keith Templeton, along with a team of other volunteers and staff, created another visual masterpiece. Local history came alive as visitors stepped back in time and explored the lives of Washington's residents during World War One, through their own words, and the impact this war had on our small town. -

TR4 Anniversary / Michelotti day, Sunday 1 August Michelotti & Triumph Giovanni Michelotti (1921 – 1980) Giovanni Michelotti was een Italiaanse ontwerper en één van de toonaangevende ontwerpers van auto’s van de 20e eeuw. Een zeer productieve ontwerper. Vignale, Ghia, Bertone, Pininfarina en Alpine Hij werkte voor diverse opdrachtgevers zoals de carrosseriebedrijven Vignale, Ghia, Bertone, Pininfarina en Alpine. Hij richtte zijn eigen ontwerpbureau op in Turijn, in 1959. Hij heeft vooral sportwagens ontworpen voor de merken Ferrari, waarbij hij als ontwerper betrokken was bij meer dan 20 modellen, Lancia, Maserati en nota bene voor het Engelse merk Triumph. Maar daarnaast ook nog een hele lijst aan modellen van diverse merken. Vanaf de jaren vijftig was hij verantwoordelijke voor de nieuwe modellen van het Engelse merk Standard- Triumph. ‘Pizza met Fish&Chips’. Michelotti ontwierp niet alleen prachtige Italiaanse sportwagens zoals de Maserati 3500 GT Spyder Ferrari 330 GT Michelotti Lancia Aurelia B52 Alfa Romeo 1900C Maar ook onze eigen DAF 44 uit 1966 en de latere Daf 46 en ook de schitterende Daf Siluro Concept car. Daf 44 Daf Siluro Concept car ‘Duits’ deed Michelotti ook. Hij (mede) ontwierp de BMW 700 in 1958. De redding toen van het merk BMW dat financieel aan het randje hing. BMW 700 1959 De succesvolle ‘Neue Klasse’ serie vanaf 1962 Standard-Triumph Voor Standard-Triumph ontwierp hij in 1959 de Triumph Herald die tot 1971 in productie is geweest. De Triumph Vitesse, de Spitfire en GT6 zijn allemaal op het chassis van de Herald gebaseerd. Vervolgens ontwierp hij voor Standard-Triumph de modellen Spitfire (al in 1957), de TR4 en de vervolg modellen TR4A, TR5 / TR250. -

Friday Pre-Show Meet and Greet For the first time a Meet and Greet was held for registered cars and owners the evening before the show. The ferry allowed us to use a couple of the ferry loading lines and Grain on the Rocks kindly provided snacks and a place for us to gather. Unfortunately it started to rain after about an hour so the gathering broke up. However it was deemed a success and we will be doing it again. David Hobscap (voiced by former race driver David Hobbs) was a dark green E Type fixed head coupe, just like this one. This is actually my 1964 E Type, nearing the end of a long restoration. -
