Diversity of spiders in Quevedo Island, Sinaloa, Mexico ABSTRACT. Main objective of this study was to evaluate the diversity of spiders at Protected Natural Area Quevedo Island. A comparative study of richness and abundance of Araneae order was made in 3 types of vegetation: thorn scrub, mangroves and dunes.

  • Comparative Flowering Ecology of Fraxinus Excelsior, Acer
Comparative flowering ecology of Fraxinus excelsior, Acer platanoides, Acer pseudoplatanus and Tilia cordata in the canopy of Leipzig’s floodplain forest Der Fakultät für Biowissenschaften, Pharmazie und Psychologie der Universität Leipzig eingereichte D I S S E R T A T I O N zur Erlangung des akademischen Grades Doctor rerum naturalium (Dr. rer. nat.) vorgelegt von Diplom Biologe Ophir Tal geboren am 24.7.1972 in Tel Aviv, Israel Leipzig, den 22.6.06. 1 To Shira 3 Abstract How do gender separation and the transition to wind pollination happen in temperate trees? What does the reproductive ecology in the crowns of temperate forest trees look like? These connected questions intrigued researchers before and since Darwin but it is only in the last years that a direct study of the latter question has been enabled. A research crane was used to study the flowering ecology of Fraxinus excelsior, Acer platanoides, Acer pseudoplatanus and Tilia cordata in Leipzig’s floodplain forest. These species originate from hermaphrodite insect pollinated plant families and exhibit different grades of gender separation and different stages between insect and wind pollination. As they are typical elements of temperate deciduous forests, an ecological comparison of their flowering ecology may shed new light on the evolution of gender separation and wind pollination in this habitat. Using the crane, gender distribution, flowering phenology in relation to microclimate, pollination levels (including pollen tubes in the styles) and fruit set were studied in ca. 200 trees over 2-4 years. Main results are a new appreciation of the sexual system of Fraxinus excelsior as dioecy, of Tilia cordata as andromonoecy and a detailed description of the intricacies of the heterodichogamous sexual system of Acer pseudoplatanus.

Introduction v Abbreviations and symbols vi Phytophagous insects and mites on trees in Great Britain Scientific names 1 Common names 29 Host plants 41 iii A Catalogue of Phytophagous Insects and Mites on Trees in Great Britain Compiled by T G Winter Entomologist, Forestry Commission INTRODUCTION The main objective of this catalogue is to bring some uniformity into exchanges concerning forest entomology. It consists of three lists: a basic one and two supplementaries. The basic list includes all species inPests and Diseases o f Forest Plantation Trees (F G Brown, 1968) occurring in Britain, to which have been added many others from both the literature and from records kept by the Entomology Branch of the Forestry Commission Research and Development Division. Besides insects the list also includes some mites and several nematodes. This list was originally designed for use within the F.C. Research Division as a source of valid insect names and authors together with a selected synonymy for all species with some claim to forest importance or significance. The species included show great variability in status, some being pests of economic importance, while others are of interest only.

  • Faunistik Der Gallmilben Südtirols (Acari: Eriophyoidea)
Gredleriana Vol. 3 / 2003 pp. 77- 142 Faunistik der Gallmilben Südtirols (Acari: Eriophyoidea) Klaus Hellrigl Abstract Faunistics of Eriophyid mites (Acari: Eriophyoidea) in South Tyrol (Northern Italy) The author gives a survey on the occurrence of the Eriophyid mites so far recorded in South Tyrol (Prov. Bozen). The records are largely based on old information given by DALLA TORRE (1892-96) who, in a comprehensive work titled „Zoocecidien und Cecidozoen Tirols“, collated the results of contemporary research from literature and collections and listed a total of 150 gall-formations, induced by eriophyid mites (Phytoptocecidia) from North Tyrol, South Tyrol and Trentino. They included 125 species, 98 from North Tyrol, 81 from South Tyrol and 30 from Trentino. 62% of the species were named, while the remaining 38% were only represented by descriptions of their at- tack patterns (symptoms of injury). – The present studies aimed at revising DALLA TORRE’S long forgotten information, at updating the nomenclature and at interpreting the described deformities (symptoms of injury) in order to permit their allocations to species names. For comparative purposes, the old data from North Tyrol and Trentino were included, since they can give indications on possible occurrences in South Tyrol. The author adds recent observations on, and collections of over 50 species from South Tyrol. – The present studies treat a total of 155 taxa of Eriophyid mites and their gall-formations on some 200 host plants. For South Tyrol, a total of 110 Eriophyid mites are listed, including some that were missing from the last checklist of Italy (1995). 1 Einleitung Die „Gallmilben“ (Acari: Eriophyoidea) gehören – ebenso wie die „Gallmücken“ (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) – zu den taxonomisch schwierigeren Gruppen von Arthropoden, weshalb sich nur wenige Forscher mit ihnen befassen.

Appendices describing the data used in the creation of Interim Chalara Control Plan Anyone wishing for more information on identifying the disease, guidance on managing ash trees or the latest outbreak maps should go to the Forestry Commission website. Interim Chalara Control Plan – Defra website Details of the general approach taken with identifying the areas of important ash available from http://jncc.defra.gov.uk/pdf/important_ash.pdf Copies of the geographic data available from http://jncc.defra.gov.uk/page-6357 Version 1.3 10/01/2013 Appendix 1: Description of the data sources used to identify important ash locations. This appendix documents the origin/derivation of each data source used in producing the important ash locations map. It describes the quality/limits of interpretation of each data source and the way in which it has been used to identify important ash locations. Natura Database (JNCC) Origin: The Natura Database contains for each Special Area of Conservation designated under the Habitats Directive i) a detailed digital boundary, ii) designation information, iii) habitats and species of European Interest for which it is designated. The Database is populated by information provided by the country conservation agencies as part of the process that notifies the SACs with the European Commission. Quality: The data set contains a boundary and list information. It does not contain detailed maps showing the location or extent of each of the notified features. SACs usually contain more than one feature and so the boundary may not represent the boundary of any one of its component features. Use for important ash locations: The following habitats of community interest, H9130, H9180, and H91E0 contain ash as a significant component of the habitat.
