Venetian Twins Book and Lyrics by Nick Enright Music by Terence Clarke Based on the Play by Carlo Goldoni
1 Venetian Twins Book and lyrics by Nick Enright Music by Terence Clarke Based on the play by Carlo Goldoni Venetian Twins is a rollicking, fast-paced, farcical romp of mistaken identities, love, lust, chivalry, murder – and more. Oh – and it is partly told through song. Yep! It’s got it all. Synopsis – so you get the idea! Scene 1 The play opens in the home of the Judge of Verona. His daughter, Rosina, is waiting to meet her fiancé, Zanetto, with her maid, Colombina She is hoping to wed Zanetto’s servant. The Judge has arranged the marriage because Rosina is ‘young and pretty’, and Zanetto is ‘young and pretty rich’. He is one of orphaned twins, the other twin being Tonino, who lives in Venice. Zanetto is a ‘boy from the bush’, who is waiting for his money and jewels to arrive with his servant to ‘get married’. When finally left alone with Rosina, he demonstrates that he is unfamiliar with how to woo a woman, and Rosina thinks he is a fool, slaps him, and he leaves. Rosina is comforted by her father’s loyal friend, Pancrazio, who secretly lusts after her. (He’s a villain!) SCENE 2 Beatrice, a young woman who has run away from Venice, who has been waiting for her beloved, Tonino (Zanetto’s twin), decides she can no longer wait for him. Tonino’s friend, Florindo (who is crazy about her) doesn’t want her to leave. Enter Lelio (who is also crazy about Beatrice) and is following her around. He confronts Florindo, and they start a swordfight. -

SUPPORTING PATRIARCHY AND CONSUMERISM THROUGH SEX RHETORIC: POWER, FOUCAULT AND SEX AND THE CITY BY ALYSON CHACE ARNOLD A THESIS SUBMITTED IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF MASTER'S OF ARTS IN COMMUNICATION STUDIES UNIVERSITY OF RHODE ISLAND 2003 MASTER'S IN COMMUNICATION STUDIES THESIS OF ALYSON C. ARNOLD APPROVED: UNIVERSITY OF RHODE ISLAND 2003 Abstract As Americans seek identification through the media, Foucault's "bio-power" extends the power of patriarchy and consumerism through gender prescriptions. A study of modern sexuality discourses can show what those prescriptions are and how the current power-knowledge regimes are maintained by them. This paper focuses on the aspects of Foucault's theories on power that deal with gender and sexuality discourses, explicating the cable show Sex and the City to discuss its role in the perpetuation of the status quo of patriarchy and consumerism through gendered identities. -
Littles: Affects and Aesthetics in Sexual Age-Play
Sexuality & Culture https://doi.org/10.1007/s12119-018-09580-5 ORIGINAL PAPER Littles: Afects and Aesthetics in Sexual Age‑Play Katrin Tiidenberg1 · Susanna Paasonen2 © The Author(s) 2018 Abstract This article explores the experiences and practices of self-identifying female sex- ual age-players. Based on interviews and observation of the age players’ blogged content, the article suggests that, rather than being fxed in one single position, our study participants move between a range of roles varying across their diferent scenes. In examining accounts of sexual play, we argue that the notion of play char- acterizes not only their specifc routines of sexual “scening” but also sexual routines, experimentations, and experiences more expansively. Further, we argue that a focus on play as exploration of corporeal possibilities allows for conceptualizing sexual preferences and practices, such as age-play, as irreducible to distinct categories of sexual identity. The notion of play makes it possible to consider sexuality in terms of transformations in afective intensities and attachments, without pigeonholing vari- ous preferences, or acts, within a taxonomy of sexual identities. In doing so, it ofers an alternative to the still prevalent categorical conceptualizations of sexuality that stigmatize people’s lived experiences and diminish the explanatory power of schol- arly and therapeutic narratives about human sexuality. Keywords Sexual age-play · Littles · Play · Afect · Tumblr As role-play pertaining to age, age-play is broadly considered a subset of BDSM (encompassing bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, sadism and masochism; see Weiss 2011 for a discussion of the “paradigmatic theatrality” of BDSM; see also Harviainen 2011 for a discussion of BDSM as “live action role play” or kinky role-play). -

Travelin Songs A Collection of Imagined Historical Events by Janice Franklin Turner A creative project submitted to Sonoma State University In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS in English Committee Members: Stefan Kiesbye Anne Goldman May 14, 2021 i Copyright 2021 By Janice Franklin Turner ii Authorization for Reproduction of Master’s Project Permission to reproduce this project in its entirety must be obtained from me. May 14, 2021 Janice Franklin Turner iii Travelin Songs A Collection of Imagined Historical Events Creative project by Janice Franklin Turner Abstract The history of the United States has been fraught with contradictions that challenge the meaning of the values we have always professed. Despite it all, Black and other minoritized people have persevered, making lives within the conditions that they have been forced to exist. Yet, there is little in historical documents that captures the laughter, joy and sorrow that creates the soul of a minoritized people. These tales are historically reimagined gazes into Black lives that portrays that which makes us all human. Through this collection, voice is given to what can’t be found in historical documents in an effort to bridge that gap. When we were growing up my mother always told us, “All that don’t kill you will make you strong.” I spent time thinking about the power that exist behind these words as I created the details for each of the stories in this collection. We never thought about Mama’s statement in the literal sense, thinking to do so was much too morbid. -

Abstract 2017 marked the year in which hip-hop officially became the most listened-to genre in the United States. This thesis explores hip-hop music’s rise to its now-hegemonic position within the music industry, seeking to provide insight into the increasingly popular sentiment that hip-hop is “the new rock & roll”.
