Cerulo And approved by _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________ New Brunswick, New Jersey OCTOBER 2014 ABSTRACT OF THE DISSERTATION Beyond the Bodice Ripper: Innovation and Change in the Romance Novel Industry By ANDREA CIPRIANO BARRA Dissertation Director: Karen A. Cerulo Romance novels have changed significantly since they first entered the public consciousness. Instead of seeking to understand the changes that have occurred in the industry, in readership, in authorship, and in the romance novel product itself, both academic and popular perception has remained firmly in the early 1980s when many of the surface criticisms were still valid."Using Wendy Griswold’s (2004) idea of a cultural diamond, I analyze the multiple and sometimes overlapping relationships within broader trends in the romance industry based on content analysis and interviews with romance readers and authors. Three major issues emerge from this study. First, content of romance novels sampled from the past fourteen years is more reflective of contemporary ideas of love, sex, and relationships. Second, romance has been a leader and innovator in the trend of electronic publishing, with major independent presses adding to the proliferation of subgenres and pushing the boundaries of what is considered romance. Finally, readers have a complicated relationship with the act of reading romance and what the books mean in their lives.

  • An Introduction to BETRAYAL
An Introduction to BETRAYAL There are times in the life of any individual or organization when they are challenged by events entirely beyond their control. One such event happened in the life of our Goodwill that challenged us to our very core. That event was the fraud committed by Carol Braun. We take pride in our corporate values and our integrity. We were exposed and vulnerable. The real mark of an organization's strength is its capacity to weather the most difficult storms. I believe that "Betrayal" is a testament to the strength and integrity of our Goodwill. It is a living testament to our capacity to learn from our hardships and mistakes. The book has found its way to every corner of America and has served to comfort and inform others who have faced similar circumstances. This book is dedicated to the men and women of Goodwill, our "People". We are stronger, more resilient and more compassionate as a result of this experience. We hope that Betrayal will, in some small way, ease any personal or professional challenges the reader may face and we stand ready to help. In reading Acts of Betrayal you are going to discover that I do not spend a lot of time describing the neighborhoods I have lived in or homes in which I grew up in, such as the type curtains in our house, the type of plates we ate on or what the houses on my blocked looked like that many writers use to give you a visual to image of what they saw. None of the men round our estate was exactly what you would call smart, although Dad was probably one of the worst.

Participants may model their school after a town by naming streets and assigning addresses. Jobs can then be posted and filled through an application and interview process, with students selected based on achievement and attendance, thereby strengthening student motivation to do well. Students will learn real life skills by performing tasks, being on time for work and developing teamwork. Contains 41 references, a sample news release, application, and employment examination, and sample letter formats and certifications. Wen the fiduciary is a doctor or a lawyer, and the entrustor is a patient or client, this harm frequently goes unremedied. Be- trayals arise out of disloyalty and conflicts of interest where the lawyer or doctor puts his or her interest above that of his or her client or patient. They cause digni- tary harm that is different from the harm flowing from negligent malpractice. Nevertheless, courts, concerned with overdeterrence, have for the most part refused to allow a separate claim for betrayal. In this Article, we suggest that betrayal de- serves a remedy and propose a new statutory tort with limits on the available money damages.
