Longhorned beetles of Belgrad forest in Istanbul province with new records to Europe, European Turkey, Marmara region of Turkey and İstanbul province (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae). Munis Entomology & Zoology, 11 (2): 661-677] ABSTRACT: In the present work, fauna of longhorned beetles of Belgrad forest in İstanbul province was researched. As a result of the study, 46 species of 5 subfamilies were identified and determined. While 20 of them are known from Belgrad forest, 26 of them are newly recorded to the fauna of Belgrad forest. In addition 1 taxon for Europe, 4 taxa for Marmara region of Turkey, 10 taxa for European Turkey (=Thracian Peninsula) and 16 taxa for İstanbul province are new records according to the available literatures. Furthermore, 6 taxa are recorded for the first time from European Turkey with exact locality. Also tribal name Dolocerini nov. is proposed for Brachypteromini Sama, 2008. Accordingly, the faunal list of longhorned beetles in Belgrad forest of İstanbul is also given in appendix 1. KEY WORDS: Coleoptera, Cerambycidae, new records, Belgrad forest, İstanbul, Turkey This study was carried out between the years of 2011 and 2012 in Belgrad Forest of İstanbul. Belgrad Forest is a mixed deciduous forest lying 15 kilometers North-West of Istanbul province, Turkey. Geographically, the forest is located at the easternmost point of the Thracian Peninsula. Forest terrain is divided between Sarıyer and Eyüp districts of İstanbul province (Fig. 1). With a region around 5,500 hectares of forest it houses many plant, bird and animal species. The most common tree in the forest is sessile oak (Quercus petraea). Belgrad Forest is under protection. Only Acatay (1943) has directly been subjected longhorned beetles’ fauna of Belgrad forest until now. He reported 30 species of 3 subfamilies from Belgrad forest. Furthermore, important contributions to the knowledge of fauna of Belgrad forest were provided by the works of Schimitschek (1944) and Öymen (1987). Also a few species were recorded by the works of Bodemeyer (1906), Villiers (1959) and Önalp (1988, 1989) to the fauna of Belgrad forest. Consequently a total of 47 species of 5 subfamilies were known from Belgrad forest. MATERIAL AND METHOD The available specimens of longhorned beetles were collected by the first author from various parts of Belgrad forest in İstanbul province by using net, pheromone traps and light traps in 2011 and 2012. For determination of new 662 _____________Mun. Ent. Zool. Vol. 11, No. 2, June 2016__________ records was used Acatay (1943), Schimitschek (1944), Öymen (1987) and Özdikmen (2008, 2010) chiefly. RESULTS With the present work, fauna of longhorned beetles of Belgrad forest in İstanbul province was studied. As a result of the study, 46 species of 5 subfamilies were identified and determined. 10 Evolutionary consequences of predation: avoidance, escape, reproduction, and diversification R. Brian Langerhans Department of OrganismicBiology, Campus and Evolutionary Box 1229, WashingtonBiology, 26 OxfordUniversity, St., St. HarvardLouis, MO University, 63130-4899, Cambridge, [email protected] MA 02138, [email protected] 10.1 Abstract One of the most important and obvious forces shaping organismal traits is predation. Prey have evolved diverse means of enhancing the probability of survival in the face of predation, and these means fall into two classes of antipredator strategies: (1) avoidance of predatory encounters, and (2) escaping after encountering a predator. A range of antipredator defenses— including behavioral, morphological, physiological, and chemical defenses—serve to either reduce the probability of detection by a predator or enhance the probability of surviving after detection by a predator. However, the recognition that reproductive strategies (e.g. offspring number, reproductive lifespan) are typically strongly influenced by mortality regimes induced by predators, highlights that most but not all “antipredator traits” fall into one of these two categories—that is, some life history traits influence only fecundity, not survival. Life history evolution has not traditionally been included in reviews of antipredator adaptations, however this chapter reveals that the conceptual link between life histories and predation broadens and refines our understanding of predation’s role in phenotype evolution. While ecologists have long recognized the importance of predation in population- and community-level dynamics, a varied history exists for the study of predation’s role in influencing evolutionary change. Despite the wealth of antipredator adaptations present in organisms, research investigating the significance of predation in biological evolution has received considerably less attention than other ecological factors (e.g.

ARPHA Conference Abstracts 2: e39674. https://doi.org/10.3897/aca.2.e39674 Abstract Morimus asper funereus is a protected longhorn beetle species of community interest and conservation importance. It is included in Annex II of the Habitats Directive (as M. funereus) and protected under the Bulgarian Biodiversity Act. Although this saproxylic beetle is widespread in old-growth forests or well-structured woodlands in Central and Southeast Europe, its populations are currently threatened by forest practices, such as the removal of wood (branches and logs) (Hardersen et al. 2017). The species is with limited dispersal ability (due to lack of wings) and is very likely to possess very isolated and localized populations. In addition, M. asper funereus is of considerable interest from a taxonomic point of view with unclear taxonomic status for as much as Morimus asper is a morphologically highly variable species. At present, at least three species/subspecies of the genus Morimus are known from the territory of Bulgaria - Morimus asper, M.

FOREST ENTOMOLOGY Bark Beetle Pheromones and Pine Volatiles: Attractant Kairomone Lure Blend for Longhorn Beetles (Cerambycidae) in Pine Stands of the Southeastern United States 1,2 3 1 4 DANIEL R. MILLER, CHRIS ASARO, CHRISTOPHER M. CROWE, AND DONALD A. DUERR J. Econ. Entomol. 104(4): 1245Ð1257 (2011); DOI: 10.1603/EC11051 ABSTRACT In 2006, we examined the ßight responses of 43 species of longhorn beetles (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) to multiple-funnel traps baited with binary lure blends of 1) ipsenol ϩ ipsdienol, 2) ethanol ϩ ␣-pinene, and a quaternary lure blend of 3) ipsenol ϩ ipsdienol ϩ ethanol ϩ ␣-pinene in the southeastern United States. In addition, we monitored responses of Buprestidae, Elateridae, and Curculionidae commonly associated with pine longhorn beetles. Field trials were conducted in mature pine (Pinus pp.) stands in Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Virginia. The following species preferred traps baited with the quaternary blend over those baited with ethanol ϩ ␣-pinene: Acanthocinus nodosus (F.), Acanthocinus obsoletus (Olivier), Astylopsis arcuata (LeConte), Astylopsis sexguttata (Say), Monochamus scutellatus (Say), Monochamus titillator (F.) complex, Rhagium inquisitor (L.) (Cerambycidae), Buprestis consularis Gory, Buprestis lineata F. (Buprestidae), Ips avulsus (Eichhoff), Ips calligraphus (Germar), Ips grandicollis (Eichhoff), Orthotomicus caelatus (Eichhoff), and Gna- thotrichus materiarus (Fitch) (Curculionidae). The addition of ipsenol and ipsdienol had no effect on catches of 17 other species of bark and wood boring beetles in traps baited with ethanol and ␣-pinene. Ethanol ϩ ␣-pinene interrupted the attraction of Ips avulsus, I. grandicollis, and Pityophthorus Eichhoff spp. (but not I. calligraphus) (Curculionidae) to traps baited with ipsenol ϩ ipsdienol. Our results support the use of traps baited with a quaternary blend of ipsenol ϩ ipsdienol ϩ ethanol ϩ ␣-pinene for common saproxylic beetles in pine forests of the southeastern United States.

ABSTRACT The observations conducted between May and October 2014 in the protected area "The Forests in the Southern part of Cândeşti Piedmont" clearly show three species of protected saproxylic beetles: Lucanus cervus, Cerambyx cerdo and Morimus asper funereus. The Quercus forests, which are dominant in that area, ensure optimal living conditions for the species L. cervus and M. asper funereus, which are common species in this site. Several aspects are presented that concern the period of activity of the individuals, sex ratio, the presence of predators and the distribution map of the species. The species C. cerdo was only found on Quercus sp, and the small number of the individuals counted in the area show that the species does not benefit from favourable development conditions. A number of pressures identified make the rational management of this protected area to be extremely important. INTRODUCTION Saproxylic insects have a major role in the degradation of dead wood. Speight (1989) (in Buse et al., 2007) defines saproxylic insects as “invertebrates dependent, in their life cycle, on dead wood or very old trees”.

Acta entomologica serbica, 2007, 12 (1): 39-44 UDC 595.768.1(497.11) SECOND CONTRIBUTION TO KNOWLEDGE OF LONGHORN BEETLES (COLEOPTERA: CERAMBYCIDAE) FROM MT. FRUŠKA GORA N. PIL1 AND D. STOJANOVIĆ2 1Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia, Radnička 20a, 21000 Novi Sad, Serbia 2Fruška Gora National Park, Zmajev trg 1, 21208 Sremska Kamenica, Serbia ABSTRACT: Determinated of new longhorn beetle material (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) collected on Mt. Fruška Gora during the period of 2002 - 2005 has shown the presence of 29 species and three sub- species. Of that number, one species is new to the Serbian fauna, seven species or subspecies are regis- tered for the first time for Mt. Fruška Gora, three species are Balkan endemics, and 10 species or sub- species are rare in Serbia. The presence of Icosium tomentosum atticum Ganglbauer, 1881 in Serbia is confirmed by this entomological investigation. KEYWORDS: Cerambycidae, endemic and rare species, Balkan Mt. Fruška Gora INTRODUCTION Mount Fruška Gora is in many respects (geomorphological, faunistic, floristic, etc.) a special mountain massif. It is cut off from the rest of the Dinarid system and is surrounded by lowland. Since the 1950’s a few researchers investigated the mountain’s entomofauna (ADAMOVIĆ, 1950, 1965; MIKŠIĆ, 1963; ILIĆ, 2005; PIL and STOJANOVIĆ, 2005a, b). Until now 126 cerambycid species were registered on this massif. That number includes some species which were there noted for the first time for Serbia, as well as rare and endemic species. MATERIAL AND METHODS Material was collected on field trips on Mt. Fruška Gora during the period of 2002 - 2005.

Exocentrus barbieri PIC, 1950 is excluded from Exocentrus DEJEAN, 1835 and considered as a new synonym of Trichocontoderes setosus (FISHER, 1936). Therefore the former subgenus Barbierexocentrus BREUNING, 1958 of Exocentrus becomes a new synonym of Trichocontoderes BREUNING, 1957. Parasphigmothorax ochreosignatus BREUNING, 1974 is proposed as a synonym of Exocentrus alni FISHER, 1932, therefore Para sphigmothorax BREUNING, 1974 becomes a new synonym of Exocentrus. The following further synonymies are proposed: Exocentrus indicola FISHER, 1932 = E. nigripennis BREUNING, 1957 syn.n., E. granulicollis FISHER, 1932 = E. rufithoraxG RESSITT, 1935 syn.n., E. parrotiae FISHER, 1932 = E. klapperichi BREUNING, 1957 syn.n., E. subglaber FISHER, 1925 = E. bicoloripennis BREUNING, 1957 syn.n. = E. rufolateralis BREUNING, 1963 syn.n., E. fumosus GAHAN, 1894 = E. seticollis FISHER, 1932 syn.n., E. pilosicornis FISHER, 1932 = E. subfasciatipennis BREUNING, 1958 syn.n. = E. ceylanicus BREUNING, 1974 syn.n., E. tessellatus PERROUD, 1855 = E. beesoni FISHER, 1933 syn.n., E. lusitanus (LINNÉ, 1767) = E. ochreoscutellatus BREUNING, 1974 syn.n., E. sublineatus BREUNING, 1957 = E. laosicus BREUNING, 1963 syn.n. = E. rufuloides BREUNING, 1965 syn.n. Seventeen new taxa are described and illustrated: Exocentrus creber sp.n., E. nives sp.n., E. latus sp.n., E. latiusculus sp.n., E. cavipennis sp.n., E.
