The complete chloroplast (cp) genome of Asteraceae usually occurs in the inversions of two regions. Hence, the cp genome sequences and structures of Asteraceae species are crucial for the cp genome genetic diversity and evolutionary studies. Hence, in this paper, we have sequenced and analyzed for the first time the cp genome size of C. carinatum Schousb and K. indica, which are 149,752 bp and 152,885 bp, with a pair of inverted repeats (IRs) (24,523 bp and 25,003) separated by a large single copy (LSC) region (82,290 bp and 84,610) and a small single copy (SSC) region (18,416 bp and 18,269), respectively. In total, 79 protein-coding genes, 30 distinct transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, four distinct rRNA genes and two pseudogenes were found not only in C. -

Many among these have potential for use in pharmaceutical and ornamental plant industries. However, owing to lack of proper research many among these plants are yet to be evaluated for commercial propagation. Leaves, bulbs and flowers among many plant parts are being evaluated locally as salads, vegetables, products of pharmaceutical importance and flowers for use in cut flower and ornamental plant industries. The study aimed to find economically important plant geophytes that grow in the wild of the South Eastern Anatolian climatic zones. To meet the objective, a field survey of bulbous geophytes of South Eastern and Eastern Anatolia was carried out during April-July periods of 2011 and 2012 years. The survey results indicated distribution of bulb geophytes at altitudes of 640 to 2651m. The geophytes belonging to the genus Allium, Biarum, Bellevalia, Crocus, Eranthis, Fritillaria, Gladiolus, Hyacinthus, Iris, Ixillirion, Muscari, Narcissus, Ornithogalum, Sternbergia, Scilla, Tulipa, Ophyrs and Orchis were collected. After initial screening, it was decided to culture 40 species; the bulbs of these species were planted in the collection gardens of the Department of Field Crops, Dicle University, Diyarbakir for determination of several parameters including, flowering date, duration of flowering time and other agronomical characteristics important for bulbous species. -

Author for correspondence: Wei Wang, [email protected] Abstract The monophyly of traditional Aconitum remains unresolved, owing to the controversial systematic position and taxonomic treatment of the monotypic, Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau endemic A. subg. Gymnaconitum. In this study, we analyzed two datasets using maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference methods: (1) two markers (ITS, trnL-F) of 285 Delphinieae species, and (2) six markers (ITS, trnL-F, trnH-psbA, trnK-matK, trnS-trnG, rbcL) of 32 Delphinieae species. All our analyses show that traditional Aconitum is not monophyletic and that subgenus Gymnaconitum and a broadly defined Delphinium form a clade. The SOWH tests also reject the inclusion of subgenus Gymnaconitum in traditional Aconitum. Subgenus Gymnaconitum markedly differs from other species of Aconitum and other genera of tribe Delphinieae in many non-molecular characters. By integrating lines of evidence from molecular phylogeny, divergence times, morphology, and karyology, we raise the mono- typic A. subg. Gymnaconitum to generic status. Garden Wise Non-Invasive Plants for Your Garden Western Washington Guide Voluntary codes of conduct For the gardening public (annotated): In an effort to reduce the spread of invasive plants used for horticultural purposes, experts have created the “Voluntary Codes of Conduct,” a series of steps that nursery professionals, landscape architects, gardeners, and others can take to help curb the spread of invasive horticultural plants. ◊ Ask for only non-invasive species when you acquire plants. Plant only environmentally safe species in your gardens. Work towards and promote new landscape design that is friendly to regional ecosystems. ◊ Seek information on which species are invasive in your area. Sources could include botanical gardens, horticulturists, conservationists, and government agencies. Remove invasive species from your land and replace them with non-invasive species suited to your site and needs. ◊ Do not trade plants with other gardeners if you know they are species with invasive characteristics. ◊ Request that botanical gardens and nurseries promote, display, and sell only non-invasive species. ◊ Help educate your community and other gardeners in your area through personal contact and in such settings as garden clubs and other civic groups.
