  • Never Forget | Page 1
Never Forget | Page 1 Never Forget By: Jack Greiner on November 13, 2018 on graydon.law This post is admittedly out of my lane. It’s not about a legal issue or the law even. But I can’t stop watching this clip from the November 10 broadcast of Saturday Night Live. As many readers likely know, in the November 3 broadcast of SNL, Pete Davidson made a dumb joke about Republican Congressional candidate Lt. Commander Dan Crenshaw’s eye patch. Never a great idea to make fun of a person’s missing eye, but especially given that Crenshaw lost the eye to an IED while on active duty in Afghanistan. Davidson was, to put it mildly, ripped on social media, and any number of outlets. But the guy who had the real beef – Lt. Com. Crenshaw took it in stride. So much so, that he appeared on the November 10 broadcast to accept Davidson’s apology. I watched the very first broadcast of SNL in October of 1975 and I’ve watched it off and on ever since. This may be my favorite moment for a number of reasons: 1. Davidson’s apology was sincere. I’m sure he was under pressure to do it, but there was no “if I offended anyone” qualifications. He said he made a poor choice and he took full responsibility; 2. It was funny. Lt. Com. Crenshaw has tremendous timing. When his cell phone ring tone played an Ariana Grande song and he asked Davidson “do you know her?” I almost fell off my chair.

  • Borderline Personality Disorder: Destroying Stigma and Promoting Normalization”
Gilbert 1 Logan Gilbert AP English 12 Mrs. Kirkpatrick January 12, 2020 “Borderline Personality Disorder: Destroying Stigma and Promoting Normalization” “BPD isn’t a real psychological disorder. It's basically a way for a shrink to say “sorry you’re clinically an a**hole” [Appendix A]. The social media platform allows for public vocalization of derogatory and dehumanizing comments that perpetuate stigmas surrounding controversial mental illnesses such as borderline personality disorder (BPD). Media platforms, like Twitter, are whirlpools of blasphemous quotes (as shown above), which reinforce stigmatizing stereotypes misconstrued with mental illnesses, furthermore, misleading public conceptions concerning borderline personality disorder. The psychological definition of borderline personality is “an illness marked by an ongoing pattern of varying moods, self-image, and behavior”(NIH). “People with borderline personality disorder may experience intense episodes of anger, depression, and anxiety that can last from a few hours to days” (“Borderline 2”). The National Alliance of Mental Illnesses (NAMI) appallingly reports, an “estimated 1.4% of the adult U.S. population experiences BPD” (“Borderline 1”). Furthermore, meaning that approximately 4.6 million adults who suffer from mood shifts, anxiety, and depression, are also forced to combat the demoralizing stereotypes manifested in modern media and film. This, however, excludes the undiagnosed population, who endures opprobrium (harsh criticism) without the support of trained doctors and nurses. Psychiatrists Biskin and Paris give professional incitement concerning BPD diagnosis, elucidating the fact that “borderline personality disorder can be a difficult diagnosis because of similarities to other conditions, particularly mood disorders'' (Biskin and Paris). In general practice, accurate diagnoses are seen “in 10% of psychiatric outpatients, 20% of psychiatric inpatients, and 6% of family medicine patients” (Biskin and Paris).

  • Vigil and Rally Held for 16-Year Old Mikayla Miller As Community Searches for Answers Regarding Her Death by Abigail Basile News Editor
Vol. 54 iSSUE 29 www.umassmedia.com the massUMass Boston’s independentmedia student newspaper May 10, 2021 Vigil and rally held for 16-year old Mikayla Miller as community searches for answers regarding her death By Abigail Basile News Editor On Thursday, May 6, a vigil was held for 16-year-old Mikayla Miller, a Black, LGBTQIA+ identifying girl from Hopkinton, Massachusetts. The vigil also served as a rally for those who believe not enough investigation has been conducted regarding Miller’s cause of death. Hundreds of supporters showed up to the Hopkinton Town Green, right by the Boston Marathon starting line. Supporters held signs reading “Justice for Mikayla,” and many brought flowers. Mikayla Miller’s mother, Calvina Strothers, gave an emotional speech to the crowd at the rally. She said she and her daughter were “two peas in a pod,” and criticized the lack of transparency from the Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan. “Due to the lack of urgency for some, I’ve had to not only be the grieving mother, but also put pressure on the DA, Marian Ryan, who I did not hear from until twelve days after Mikayla’s death,” said Strothers at the rally. “I don’t want to be a vigilante in this,” continued Strothers. “I don’t want to have to spend all day on the phone getting and passing along evidence in order for justice to be served. What I want is for the criminal justice system to work.” The rally was organized by Monica Cannon-Grant—the founder of Violence in Boston—and former Boston City Councilor Tito Jackson, both of whom spoke at the rally as well.

  • We All Know the Bad News — So Now It&
We all know the bad news — so now it’s time for the good It’s been a frustrating year for the Church, with seemingly bad news on top of bad news. We can’t even get some comic relief. During a recent Saturday Night Live skit about musician R. Kelly, who recently was indicted on 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, comedian Pete Davidson called Kelly a “monster” — then went on to liken him to people of faith. “If you support the Catholic Church, isn’t that like the same thing as being a R. Kelly fan? I don’t really see a difference, only, like, one’s music is significantly better,” Davidson said. “Look, I’m not saying it’s an easy decision, I’m just saying, you don’t know how good someone’s music is until you find out they’re a pedophile.” It wasn’t just a crack at bad decisions, leadership or a particular scandal — it was a rip on believers and their beliefs. Quick to respond, the bishops of the Diocese of Brooklyn wrote in The Tablet, the diocesan newspaper: “Apparently, the only acceptable bias these days is against the Catholic Church. The faithful of our Church are disgusted by the harassment by those in news and entertainment, and this sketch offends millions. The mockery of this difficult time in the Church’s history serves no purpose. “The clergy sex abuse crisis is shameful, and no one should ever get a laugh at the expense of the victims who have suffered irreparably.” All of this is to say: Catholics are in need of some good news.

Ticket-holders were not told who Letterman's guest would be, but sources for Vulture said it was West. Letterman has been open about his battle with depression since 2012, while West talked about his mental condition frequently in 2018. West's 2018 album Ye included the message "I hate being bi-polar, it's awesome," but during his infamous Oval Office meeting with President Donald Trump, he claimed he "actually wasn't bipolar," but instead "had sleep deprivation." In several tweets this past December, West claimed he was "free" from his medications and compared his mental state to how he felt while recording My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. "I’m loving the new music I’ve been working on. 6 months off meds I can feel me again. Remember when dark fantasy came out I used to tweet a storm also," West tweeted on Dec.

Ariana Grande Posted a Secret Backstage Snap with Boyfriend Dalton Gomez from the VMA August 30, 2020 © Ariana Grande – Instagram Ariana Grande debuts relationship with Dalton Gomez in a new music video. The ultra low-key couple have managed to stay out of the public eye in recent months, but Grande confirmed their relationship when the two appeared together in Grande and Justin Bieber’s new quarantine created music video for their new duet, “Stuck with U.” The pairing marks Grande’s first public relationship since she ended her engagement with Saturday Night Live star, Pete Davidson. TMZ first confirmed Gomez’s back in March when the two were reportedly spotted kissing at a bar, but the pair have continued to share subtle insight into their relationship over the course of their relationship. Below, we broke down everything we know about the burgeoning real estate tycoon and the pop songstress. The two have been dating since January 2020. According to People, the pair began dating at the start of the new year but Grande has insisted on keeping their union as hush-hush as possible, following her very public fling with SNL star Pete Davidson. “They have been hanging out for a couple of months,” a source told the outlet. “Ariana doesn’t want to do another public relationship so she is trying to keep this one quiet, but she seems very happy with Dalton.” Gomez is a successful real estate agent.
