COUNTY COUNCIL (A417 CHALLOW AREA) (TEMPORARY BRIDGE CLOSURE, PROHIBITIONS OF THROUGH TRAFFIC, ONE-WAY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS AND TEMPORARY HGV RESTRICTIONS) ORDER 2014 Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 Section 14(1) & (5) Date of Order: 1 September 2014 Coming into force: 6 September 2014

This Order is being introduced because of rail bridge reconstruction which is anticipated to take 3 months to complete. The effect of the order also manages traffic in the surrounding area is as follows: 1) Prohibit any vehicle from using that length of the A417 as is carried by the road bridge at Challow; 2) Prohibit through traffic using Cow Lane, and Millaway Lane, (exemption for access only); 3) Introduce 7.5tonne weight limits on the roads listed in the first table below; 4) One-way traffic on the roads listed in the second table as a clockwise circular route (vehicles over 11’9” in height exempt). An alternative footbridge will be provided for pedestrians. Exemptions to the weight restrictions are included for emergency services, for local buses, for the works and for deliveries/access to property/premises as detailed in the list above. The alternative route for A417 traffic is via the A420 (north-eastwards from A417 roundabout) to the A415 Kingston Bagpuize roundabout, south-eastwards to the A338 crossroads and southwards to the A338/A417 Mably Way roundabout, or vice versa. This Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months or until the works have been completed whichever is the sooner.
