R. Heaven). Material mostly relating to his death and his controversial will were added by Shine. On her death in 1959 the papers came into the custody of her executors, Mrs. G. de B. West (a cousin) and Mrs. Thistlethwaite, daughter of Harold Lane, brother of Sir Hugh Lane and Ruth Shine. The material was acquired by the National Library between 1960 and 2000 and the various accessions have been catalogued at various times: 1. Accession 2155: donated by Mrs. West in August 1960. 2. In his own age, he was respected as a man of letters, educator, art critic, poet, friend of Alfred Tennyson, and editor of The Golden Treasury of the Best Songs and Lyrical Poems in the English Language, first published in 1861. This dissertation attempts to make good that neglect in two ways: firstly, through an analysis of his life and times, an assessment of his writings as an art and literary critic, an examination of his considerable corpus of original poetry, and the compilation of the first comprehensive bibliography of his own publications.

If you find an ancestor listed here but not in any other Halifax County sources, it is a good indication that one of original sources has the name "spelled differently" or "abbreviated". What we did to build this list. Tax lists, census records, etc. were collected (text files). The names from the sources were merged. Abbreviated first names were spelled out. Titles, Jr, Sr, Dr were removed. The names were sorted (by surname, then first name). Exact duplicates were removed. For Life. For Generations. Capital Campaign (FGFLFG) was underway, and I witnessed the first three phases unfold as Garrott Hall, the Windland Smith Rice Building, and the Marlene R. Shaw Early Childhood Center were built. Head of School Marlene Shaw appointed me liaison between the school and the projects’ architects to ensure that the new facilities would meet the needs of teachers and students and provide spaces that would enhance teaching and learning. It was one of the most fulfilling times of my Albert Throckmorton professional career as I was able to combine what I knew about education and my love for architecture, which I studied at Rice University. The fine art of fundraising was still a mystery. The economic woes of 2008 postponed the final phase of FGFLFG— the addition of an Athletic and Wellness Center to house a new gymnasium and dining hall. As we waited for the economy to rebound, I had the extraordinary opportunity to become St. Mary’s seventh Head of School in 2012. We continued to talk about that Athletic and Wellness Center, but as a goal that perpetually seemed to be five years on the horizon.
