  • PARAMOUNT PICTURES: 75 YEARS July 10, 1987 - January 4, 1988
The Museum Of Modem Art For Immediate Release June 1987 PARAMOUNT PICTURES: 75 YEARS July 10, 1987 - January 4, 1988 Marlene Dietrich, William Holden, Barbara Stanwyck, Fred MacMurray, and Mae West are among the stars featured in the exhibition PARAMOUNT PICTURES: 75 YEARS, which opens at The Museum of Modern Art on July 10. The series includes films by such directors as Cecil B. De Mille, Ernst Lubitsch, Francis Coppola, Josef von Sternberg, and Preston Sturges. More than 100 films and an accompanying display of film-still enlargements and original posters trace the seventy-five year history of Paramount through the silent and sound eras. The exhibition begins on Friday, July 10, at 6:00 p.m. with Dorothy Arzner's The Wild Party (1929), madcap silent star Clara Bow's first sound feature, costarring Fredric March. At 2:30 p.m. on the same day, Ernst Lubitsch's ribald musical comedy The Smiling Lieutenant (1931) will be screened, featuring Paramount contract stars Maurice Chevalier, Claudette Colbert, and Miriam Hopkins. Comprised of both familiar classics and obscure features, the series continues in The Roy and Niuta Titus Theaters through January 4, 1988. Paramount Pictures was founded in 1912 by Adolph Zukor, and its first release was the silent Queen Elizabeth, starring Sarah Bernhardt. Among the silent films included in PARAMOUNT PICTURES: 75 YEARS are De Mille's The Squaw Man (1913), The Cheat (1915), and The Ten Commandments (1923); von Sternberg's The Docks of New York (1928), and Erich von Stroheim's The Wedding March (1928). - more - ll West 53 Street.

It incorporates comparable data from the reigns of Edward VI, Mary I, and the Elizabeth I. Much of the analysis is quantitative in nature: chapters compare the appointments of justices of the peace during the reigns of Edward VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I, and reveal that purges of the commissions of the peace were far more common than is generally believed. Furthermore, purges appear to have been religiously- based, especially during the reign of Elizabeth I. There is a gap in the quantitative data beginning in 1569, only eleven years into Elizabeth I’s reign, which continues until 1584. In an effort to compensate for the loss of quantitative data, this dissertation analyzes a different primary source, William Lambarde’s guidebook for JPs, Eirenarcha. The fourth chapter makes particular use of Eirenarcha, exploring required duties both in and out of session, what technical and personal qualities were expected of JPs, and how well they lived up to them.

Volume 1, Issue 4 December 2010 WEBB SURNAME DNA PROJECT THE WEBB BULLETIN NEWS, PROJECT UPDATES & RECORDS I N T H I S I S S U E : Webbs in History: Samuel Blachley Webb 1 From the Administrator 1 SamuelC Blachley Webb WEBB Records Repository There were many Webb men who made - Arizona 3 their mark of distinction in the Revolutionary - Connecticut 3 War. One of the most notable was Samuel - Colorado 8 Blachley Webb. In June 21, 1776 he was - Delaware 9 appointed Aide-de-Camp to General George Washington and later was the Grand - Georgia 10 Marshal of his inauguration. He wrote to his - Kansas 12 wife Catherine describing that glorious day: - Kentucky 13 “I accompanied the President from his - Michigan 14 lodgings to the Senate room, from thence to - Missouri 15 St. Paul’s Church and back to his House, - Oklahoma 17 thro’ the surrounding shouts of Joy, of the greatest concourse of citizens, that I ever - Great Britain 18 beheld.” General Samuel Blachley Webb held the Bible when Washington was sworn into office. What led up to that moment was a life of service to his newly forming Country. Continued on page 2 From the Administrat or Dear Project Members, I would like to ask that everyone take a minute to do a year end “audit” of their information on the Webb Surname DNA Project website [www.webbdnaproject.org] including the Y-DNA Results Chart and Lineages. If there are any changes or missing details, just send me a quick email to let me know. I hope some of you have taken up the “Mystery Webb” challenge that can be found on the home page of the website.
