Le peintre figure les trois consuls recevant, dans un des salons de Boffrand du Petit-Luxembourg, les serments des présidents de section du Conseil d’État. On peut apercevoir, par la fenêtre de gauche, l’aile Ouest du palais, et par la fenêtre de droite, la chartreuse. Ce dossier a été réalisé par Xavier LACROIX, qui prépare une thèse d’Histoire à Sorbonne Université sous la direction d’Éric ANCEAU. Stagiaire à la division des Archives du Sénat, il a rédigé cette brochure avec le concours de celle-ci. 2 Une visite du palais du Luxembourg sous les Napoléonides De l’envol à la chute de l’Aigle, le Palais du Luxembourg est lié au destin de Napoléon. Foyer, au seuil de l’année 1800, de la conjuration qui permit au général Bonaparte de clore la Révolution, le Luxembourg fut aussi son logis – et celui de Joséphine – durant les premiers mois du Consulat. On y rédigea, de surcroît, la Constitution de l’an VIII. Indissociablement lié à la geste napoléonienne, le Luxembourg subit profondément l’empreinte politique et réformatrice d’un régime dont il accueillit le Sénat, première chambre haute de l’histoire de France. À cette occasion, il fut restauré et adapté à la fonction de palais législatif, doté d’un nouvel et magistral escalier ainsi que d’un premier hémicycle.

    American History Tour in Paris, France (This is a proposed and/or sample tour) Discover American History in Paris by Mary Jo Once you have been on this tour, you will forever have a deeper emotion on each 4th of July as Americans celebrate our historic declaration of independence from England and the results of the American Revolution. You will have a deeper affection for Paris, one of the most beautiful cities in the world, because of the direct links between that city and our revolution. In addition, you will see the places where Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, John Paul Jones and others lived and established themselves in both French and American history. While living in Paris, I learned much about the historic connections between France and the United States, especially in relation to the American Revolution. I discovered numerous plaques, statues, squares, streets, and churches all over Paris that refer to these historic connections. I was given a book by a friend that provides much information about these places and these connections. Now I am passionate that more Americans know where these places are, what the signs and plaques say (most of them are written in French), and why they are there. Come explore with me American History in Paris. You will see Paris in a different way – through the lens of American history. A Flexible Itinerary I have planned an itinerary that allows a good deal of free time so that you can fall in love with Paris in your own way. In addition, we will be a small group, no more than 12.

    Letter 2475. - Archives of the Mission, Turin, original signed letter. 1. Georges des Jardins, born in Alençon (Orne) on January 6, 1625, was ordained a priest in September 1649, entered the Congregation of the Mission on August 15, 1651, and took his vows on August 17, 1653. Later, he was Superior in Toul (1655-57) and Narbonne (1659). 2. Brother Jean Proust, born in Parthenay (Deux-Sèvres) on March 12, 1620, entered the Congregation of the Mission on June 25, 1645, and took his vows on October 28, 1647. Saint Vincent refers to clerical students as “Brothers.” The context usually determines whether the one referred to is a coadjutor Brother or a student destined for the priesthood. 3. Saint Vincent subscribed the initials, i.p.d.l.M. (indigne prêtre de la Mission. ) [unworthy priest of the Mission], to his signature. It has been traditional in the Congregation of the Mission to append to one’s name the Latin of this phrase, indignus sacerdos Congregationis Missionis. or the initials, i.s.C.M. The editors have adopted this traditional practice, substituting the initials of the Latin phrase for the French used by Saint Vincent. Letter 2476. - Archives of the Mission, Turin, unsigned rough draft. 1. Pierre Daveroult, born in Béthune (Pas-de-Calais) on January 20, 1614, was ordained a priest during Lent of 1638. He entered the Congregation of the Mission on April 13, 1653, and took his vows on January 13, 1656. Twice he embarked for Madagascar and twice returned to Paris without being able to set foot on the island.

Danillo Bisarello Siamo qui stasera per presentare la seconda parte del volume Ferrara nel Seicento, Quotidianità tra potere politico e governo pastorale. Un volume prezioso che considera, come sentirete fra poco, la storia ecclesiastica e religiosa di Ferrara. Sono con noi i semina- risti, e tra loro Monsignor Rettore: li salutiamo con grande affetto, come sempre. Il Seminario ancora una volta è promotore di uno studio, di una ricerca, in quest’occasio- ne attuata da don Lorenzo, sempre preziosa documentazione del tempo passato. Così un altro poderoso libro si viene ad aggiungere alla robusta serie di pubblicazioni, e qualcuno ha definito l’attività editoriale del Seminario un unicum italiano, forse anche europeo per la mole di studi promossi e stampati che davvero fa parte del piano culturale della Conferenza Episcopale; dall’altro si inserisce perfettamente nel tessuto di studi della nostra Università e di altri centri culturali civici.

The Establishment of the Vincentians in Genoa, 1645–1660 Thérèse Peeters BIO THÉRÈSE PEETERS, is currently working toward a Ph.D. in history at Leiden University in the Netherlands. The subject of her thesis is the role of trust in the Catholic Reformation. In particular, her research focuses on Genoa in the seventeenth century. In 2012, Thérèse completed her BA in Italian language and culture and her BA in history at Leiden University. She continued there, and specialized on missionary correspondence and the role of trust while working on her masters in Medieval and early modern European history. Thérèse also collaborated on the project “Vincent de Paul, the Congregation of the Mission, and the Papacy: Documents from the Vatican Archives (1625-1670),” a digital catalogue of archival sources as well as a digital edition of selected documents.

Physical Sources of Biblical History Jetze Touber Ghent University The Reformation and the consequent divergence of religious cultures in Europe had profound consequences for intellectual regimes across the conti- nent. Learned medicine was no exception in that respect. One area where we may gauge the effects of this development was in the field of medicina sacra: the application of medical knowledge to the interpretation of biblical pas- sages touching upon the workings of the human body. The engagement of learned medicine with Scripture may be expected to have been differentiated confessionally, seeing the very different position of the Bible had in Catholic and Protestant cultures. This particular branch of physica sacra has hardly been studied, however. The present article probes a very modest sample of medical knowledge brought to bear on biblical interpretation, by the Catholic authors Francisco Valles and Girolamo Bardi, and by the Protestant authors Johannes Mey and Thomas Bartholin.
