On the left-hand side hung as it seemed in space a wooden extension which formed one of the classrooms. All the teaching facilities were contained within the house - just classrooms and little else, no dedicated rooms as there are today. My four years in the Junior School were overseen by Miss McElvogue in Lower Prep A, Miss Rowsell in Upper Prep A, Mr Russell-Jones in Form 1A and Mr Knight in Form 2A. My Headmaster for the first year was Dom Bruno Grogan and thereafter Dom Philip Clarke.

In LPA, music and Art were taught in the Junior School, but thereafter we went across to the Upper School for these; music in the single room of the Music Andrew Johnson, Headmaster St Benedict’s Department (now part of the Sixth Form Canteen), “ruled over” by Mr Bowyer and Art in the adjacent room (now part of the Senior School Chapel complex), “ruled over” (more sternly I remember!) by Miss Vincent- Smith. Our lunches were taken in the Senior School refectory (a large tin hut where the Cloisters Hall now stands) and for Games (football in LPA and then rugby in the other years) we all went to on two afternoons a week.

On attending the Opening of the “New Ark” in November, I could only marvel at how the Junior School had developed with all its modern facilities in a vastly larger space than we had.

017 was another successful 2 year for the OP’s Cricket Club. More than 30 players represented the club across our extensive fixture list! Highlights for the year include the incredible tied game against the School on the Saturday followed by the Old Boy’s retaining the 20/20 trophy on the Sunday, led by Harry Britt’s (OP 2014) 105* off 40 balls. A very young OP’s side entered the Emeriti-Phillips Cup and finished as runners up with Ned Leonard (OP 2015) receiving the bowler of the tournament award. We are always looking for more players to join our fun, friendly and social cricket club - so please get in touch! Fixture list for 2018 will be posted in the New Year.

fter a tough start, the A Old Priorian Rugby Football Club have fought back admirably in recent weeks to position themselves well going into Christmas. Ravaged by injury and unavailability, the first six weeks of the season saw the OPs record just the one victory, a 19-14 win over local rivals Ruislip. However, the return of key players and the move to once-a-week training has helped the squad to manage a run of five wins in six games - the best form since their promotion from London 2NW in 2013-2014. After disappointing losses against South Woodham and Diss in October, the OPs showed promise against OP Scrum Brentwood. Unfortunately, Brentwood scored four late tries 25-10 victory. After the weekend off, the OPs travelled to high-flying Colchester and felt that they might be able to spring an upset. Despite dominating much of the game, the OPs were 19-0 down at half-time after some breakaway tries by the home side. The OPs refused to go down easily and fought back valiantly in the second half. Ultimately, it wasn’t quite enough as it finished 29-22 to Colchester but it was another improved performance. The next three fixtures began to show what this side is really capable of. Eton Manor, who were fifth at the time, visited Perivale but returned home empty handed as they were out- classed in most facets of the game. The OPs managed an impressive Conor Dolan (OP 2015)

t would help us to maintain our database records accurately and it would also help both the Development I Office and Careers Department of the School, if you would take a few minutes to visit the Website and complete the WAYN Form which can be accessed from the link on the Portal Page. This applies especially to those of you who have left School in the last few years and are now on the first rungs of the ladder in that great big working-world or still in further education; having said that, don’t let us put the rather “Older OPs” off supplying their information - the occupation “Retired” can be just as useful, providing of course we know what field it is that you have worked in!
