  • Recruitment Pack 2021
ST BENEDICT’S SCHOOL a minimis incipe Recruitment Pack 2021 The School The St Benedict’s family of schools includes St Benedict’s Senior School and St Benedict’s Junior School in Ealing and St Bernard’s Preparatory School in Slough. 2019-20 has been an extraordinary academic year. The first half of the year at St Benedict’s and St Bernard’s played out as expected, and the schools enjoyed many successes, but in the second half of the Lent term, from 19th March onwards, the UK government instructed schools to close. This meant that teaching, learning, pastoral care, sports, music, dance, drama and other co-curricular activities all moved online. One of the unexpected successes of recent months has been how quickly and how effectively the schools transformed themselves into online learning providers. Examination results A level and GCSE results this year at the Senior School were awarded by Centre Assessment Grades, as the government cancelled public examinations in March because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This summer’s A level candidates achieved excellent results, the best ever achieved at St Benedict’s, with 61.2% of all A level papers scoring A*/A and 87.9% scoring A*-B. At GCSE, 72.5% of exams were awarded the top grades 9-7. These are also the school’s best ever results. 1 Academic opportunities and successes It is a mark of the success and academic calibre of the outgoing U6th that 86% of them secured a place at their first choice university, and 70% of them will attend Russell Group (top 25) universities.

  • Report by Lord Carlile of Berriew Q.C. Into Matters Relating to Ealing Abbey and St Benedict’S School, Ealing
INDEPENDENT REPORT BY LORD CARLILE OF BERRIEW Q.C. REPORT BY LORD CARLILE OF BERRIEW Q.C. INTO MATTERS RELATING TO EALING ABBEY AND ST BENEDICT’S SCHOOL, EALING. BACKGROUND 1. St. Benedict’s is the only Benedictine day school in Britain. It has an excellent academic record, and over 1000 pupils from 3-18. Its mission is described as ‘teaching a way of living’, to be realised through commitment to the essential characteristics of the Benedictine way of life. The school’s objective is to develop young men and women who will aspire to success at school and beyond, understand and live by gospel values, be happy in their personal and family lives, make a distinctive contribution to society and take with them, throughout their lives, a sense of belonging to the community of St Benedict’s and that they have ‘learned how to live’. 2. St Benedict’s was founded as a boys’ school in 1902 by monks from Downside Abbey. It is now a part of the Ealing Abbey Trust and is governed by the Abbot and monks of Ealing, supported by an advisory board of lay people. The school site is alongside the monastery, which became an independent community in 1947, achieving abbey status in 1955. The senior school currently has 770 on roll .The junior school, catering for some 300 pupils below the age of 11, occupies part of the same site. The site is in a very pleasant part of West London, and occupies a substantial and handsome estate. 3. The Headmaster is a lay person.

  • Oblates Info
ABOUT EALING ABBEY BENEDICTINE OBLATES THE ASSOCIATION OF THE OBLATES consists of lay people whose desire it is, while living in the world, to seek God with all their heart and will under the special patronage of Our Holy Father Benedict, and those who have been admitted by the Abbey to make the public Promise. It is the canonically approved way that enables lay people to participate most fruitfully and harmoniously in the life and work of the monks and thereby to share in the spirit, ideals and practice of the Benedictine way of life. It offers them a certain stability to assist them in modeling their own private lives upon the Rule of Saint Benedict so far as is compatible with their family and social obligations and their duties at work. At one and the same time they sanctify themselves and their families, while also helping to extend the apostolate of the monks around and outside the monastery. The Church has legislated that the Oblate Promise does not bind under pain of sin. The Abbot has appointed an Oblate Master whose task it is, under the authority of the Abbot, to assist and oversee the Oblates’ spiritual formation. For this purpose the Oblate Master arranges Oblates’ meetings, currently on six occasions per year, including a weekend retreat for Lent, and to the Feast of St Frances of Rome, Patron of Obaltes, which occurs on 9 March, as possible. The Oblate Master also assists in individual guidance. Each month he offers Holy Mass for the Association of the Oblates. Upon notification of the death of oblates who have not allowed their Promise to lapse he offers a Mass of Requiem.

  • Teams Birthday – West London Sector Greenford 9Th December 2018
Teams Birthday – West London Sector Greenford 9th December 2018 A big thank you to the West London Sector Team and especially Teams Ealing 8 and Ealing 16 for preparing a wonderful celebration of the Teams birthday in the parish of Our Lady of the Visitation in Greenford, West London on the 9th December. This event was especially important as it was hosted in a parish that has never had a Team. It is tremendous that Fr Liam O’Donovan SCA, new to the parish, not only agreed to host the event but has agreed to be the chaplain for Greenford 1 which will be piloted in the new year. Fr Liam did attend the International Gathering in Fatima but for a priest not yet in Teams he gave a wonderful homily suggesting how the Teams Endeavours are a wonderful tool that married couples can use to prepare a way, a straight path for the Lord. ( Luke 3:1-6) Further good news was that DOM Alexander Bevan from Ealing Abbey concelebrated mass so there were two new priests to Teams in attendance. The mass and social were extremely well attended with approximately 60 Team members and potential Team couples attending, along with many young children. The children created a lovely rosary and each Hail Mary decade, made of paper flowers, they decorated and on each they wrote an intension to offer up for people less fortunate than themselves. Shoe boxes were decorated with Christmas wrapping and these were taken home to be filled with good things before being delivered to homeless charities.
