The art of performance draws our eyes to the stage

Our community’s commitment to arts and culture says a lot about where we live. Theater brings us together from the moment the lights go down and the curtains come up.

We proudly salute the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts.

n We welcome nearly 500,000 visitors each year to our campus for a wide-range of programs and activities.

n We are a non-profit organization, owned and operated by the Luther Burbank Memorial Foundation. Our members and donors make all our activities possible.

n We present nearly 100 performances each year, and with no seat more than 75 feet from the stage, it’s a rare chance to see your favorite artists up close and

Enrich. Educate. Entertain. Educate. Enrich. personal.

n We distribute more than 12,000 free tickets to students and low-income community members, helping make the arts accessible to all.

n We serve over 30,000 children each year by integrating the arts into school curriculum.

n We have an innovative 450-piece musical instrument lending library called Music For Schools, that allows low-income students to participate in their school’s band or orchestra program.

n We host nearly 1000 events each year including the Farmer’s Market, company meetings, bridal shows, and a Fiesta.

About Us New Sculpture Garden Enrich. Educate. Entertain. Educate. Enrich. Sculptor Bruce Johnson

Opening to the public on June 6, 2015, a new Sculpture Garden – located at the northeast end of the Center’s campus, between the Center’s building and the Sutter Hospital campus – will present rotating works from contemporary regional artists that focus on monumental outdoor art incorporated into a landscaped natural setting. The Sculpture Garden is free and accessible to the public, and will feature the distinctive redwood sculptures designed by highly acclaimed local artist Bruce Johnson for the inaugural exhibit, which will last for two years. This installation will be the unifying focal point for the various other aspects of the visual arts pieces that are already on display at Wells Fargo Center for the Arts. The visual arts have always been an intrinsic component of the programming at the Center dating back to the early 1980’s when the Museum of Contemporary Arts was housed onsite. Although the works relocated in 2006, other significant paintings and sculpture displayed at the Center include works by thirteen local and regional artists such as Robert Ellison, Dennis Leon,

Education Through the Arts

The Arts—Where Learning Comes To Life! Serving 30,000 children and adults annually from five counties.

Quietly (and not so quietly) at work outside of the spotlight, the Center’s nationally-recognized Education Through the Arts program uses the Arts to teach core subjects, including math, science, and reading, to create new ways of learning and improve engagement and understanding.

Each year we:

n Present nearly 30 weekday morning School Shows for North Bay school children that correspond to their

Education classroom learning. For many children, this is their first time seeing a live performance.

n Conduct 50 Artists in the Schools workshops led by our artist-educators who use the arts to help teach core curriculum subjects, increasing comprehension and retention, and acknowledging that students learn in different ways.

n Operate a 450-piece Music For Schools instrument- lending library, allowing low-income students the opportunity to participate in their school’s band or orchestra program.

n Offer more than 250 hours of Professional Development opportunities for teachers, helping them learn how to integrate the arts into their core

Member, Kennedy Center curriculum lessons. Partners in Education program

42 EDUCATION WELLS FARGO CENTER FOR THE ARTS Removing Roadblocks to the Arts Truth is, not everyone can afford to participate in the arts. Yet, music, dance and theater are at the heart of every community, providing one of our greatest means for understanding and communication. We believe these benefits should be shared by all and are working to remove financial barriers to the arts in our community.

n Evert Person’s ArtReach— Each year, the Center distributes approximately 12,000 free and reduced-price tickets to low-income students and community members, helping make the Arts accessible for all!

n The Evert Person Bus Fund— grants for student transportation to the theater

n Subsidized Programming— Education live performance at an affordable price

Why Education Through the Arts? At Wells Fargo Center for the Arts, we believe in art for art’s sake, but we also know that the arts are an incredible tool that stimulates creativity and communication skills, and also helps children develop self-esteem. By integrating the arts into core curriculum lessons, we are using the power of the arts to teach all subjects, including math, science, and social studies, while also acknowledging that children learn in different ways.

Why Now? As we see cuts to arts and music education in the classroom, our programs help fill the gap for students and teachers in our community.

Patti Delano, like many of the volunteers at Wells Fargo Center for the Arts, became involved through the invitation of a friend. “Mary would always talk about all the great acts and events at the Center. I decided to join her, just for fun, and now I’ve been volunteering longer than her!” Patti has been volunteering as an usher since 2007 for both public and weekday school shows, and currently helps train our new volunteer ushers. As a wife, mother and grandmother, Patti is busy with her family, but always has a place in her heart for education. She worked for 16 years as an elementary school instructional assistant and continues to volunteer with her grandsons' school in Santa Rosa and her granddaughters' school in Novato. Betsy Boes, the Center’s Senior Events Supervisor, has this to say about Patti, “If you look up the word perfection in the dictionary, you would find a picture of Patti Delano. Patti is an authentic lady; she has an Volunteers up-beat attitude, is always fair, and a pure pleasure to have in the workplace.” The Center’s mission to “Enrich, Educate and Entertain the North Bay community” fits Patti’s passion Patti Delano Photo by WB Photography for teaching and love for Sonoma County. She lights up as she talks about a contemporary a capella group, Straight No Chaser, and their ability to “fill the stage like they all had instruments with only their beautiful voices.” Patti’s goal at the Center is “to make every time as special as the first. This is a dream come true for so many who grew up watching these stars all their lives.”
