1 Patrons’s Report

As the curtain goes down on the 2005 season and the clubs 52nd year I would like to thank Ciaron Burns, George Bakhos, George Habib, George Saab, Mark Brown and Fady Ghanem for their com- mitment and organisation in this successful year. With 312 registered players the club was again a force to be reckoned with, fielding 18 teams in the Canterbury Bulldogs Junior Rugby League Competition from under 6 to C Grade. Of these 18 teams 16 were in competition with 12 making the semi- finals. Of these 12 teams 6 made the Grand Final and of these 6 grandfinalists St John's won five Premierships. I congratulate the Premiers under, 9, 10r, 11, 14 and First XIII along with all players who competed with tenacity and sportsmanship throughout the year and gained the Club First position in the Club Championship. St John's Eagles is very much part of the local community, not only well respected for their hard and fair play but for their community work namely ANZAC DAY march, Mothers Day and Gala Days events. Congratulations always goes to the coaches and players but we all know the club wouldn't be in the position they are today without the managers, trainers, canteen workers, mums and dads who transport the players and all the supporters who encourage the players and coaches so strongly. For all the significant adults in the adolescent's lives who take time to relate; Thank you. The school teachers at Holy Spirit College who coach Rugby League teams owe a big debt to St John's Eagles. Holy Spirit students love their rugby league, when we call for tryouts for any league team we have over 50 gearing up. Invariably the school teams comprise many St John's Eagles players with their discipline and skills they have learnt from their coaches and experiences from St John's weekend football. Needless to say Holy Spirit College dominate their inter- school compe- titions with all teams making the Grand Final this year with all but one winning the Premiership. This has been a tradition since the school began. This years Arrive Alive Team were controversial- ly beaten in the last minute of the Bulldogs District Final; a fine achievement. An U/15 Holy Spirit team represented the Bulldogs in the NSW All Schools Carnival and were undefeated in all five games to take out this Championship event. Congratilations to all Holy Spirit players and thank you St. Johns for all you have done in preparing them. As we know many will go on to make a fine career in the game. The association with the club and Holy Spirit College has never been stronger. As I look to the future I am certain this proud association with St John's Eagles will continue and 2006 will be another successful year.Your generosity and unpaid efforts will always be appreciated.

2 Presidents Report

Well what a great season 2005 has turned out to be for St. Johns. Out of 16 teams in competitions 12 made it to semi finals with 6 making it to the grand final. Of this, 5 teams went on to become premiers. St. Johns has once again taken out the Mod club championship the Senior club championship and the Overall club championship. Sponsorship is at an all time high and along with a great year in our canteen the clubs finances have never looked better. All our success this year is a credit to all involved at the club not least the play- ers, your efforts mirror the success we have achieved. With a heavy emphasis on Code of Conduct this year you have shown great discipline, congratulations and thank you. To all our coaches and your coaching staff, your professional attitude and commitment has led in no small part to a successful 2005. The time and effort you put into preparing your teams has been great, well done. A successful club needs good leadership. This year the committee has been a pleasure to be involved with. They are all hard working, enthusiastic, committed guys who really care about St. Johns. I must make special mention of our Secretary George Bakhos, I have never seen anyone work harder. In his first year in this position his efforts have been outstanding. While this year has been a success we must always look to continue to improve. There are areas we will be pushing to pick up our efforts in next year and the years to come. The main area would be parent involvement. We encourage new parents and old parents of the club to get involved. Put your name forward as a manager or trainer, help out in the canteen or just step up as a timekeep- er we would love and appreciate your help. I would like to make special mention of this years First XIII, only the fifth premiership we have won since the inception of the under 15's as our premier side in the club. To Chris, Claude, Mark, Joey, Fady and the entire team congratulations. A club this size needs plenty of finances to operate and sponsorship is integral to this. To all of sponsors thank you for your valued assistance. To our major sponsor Punchbowl Ex Services and Community Club a special thanks for your continued support, it is very much appreciated. I hope 2005 has been an enjoyable time for you at St. Johns. I look forward to seeing you all in 2006 where we face the challenge of continued and further success. Enjoy your break and come back re-charged for the year ahead. I wish you all and your families a safe and Happy Christmas and New Year. Ciaron Burns (President)

3 Secretary’s Report

WOW! What a year, 2005 has come and gone and St Johns has enjoyed a stellar year. This year we fielded 18 teams and had 312 registered players. In under 6s we fielded two sides who played in a non competition format. Of the other 16 teams we fielded, 12 were semi-finalists and out of those 12 teams 6 were grand finalists and out of those 6 teams 5 were Premiers. Congratulations to the 9s, 10res, 11s, 14s, and yes even our FIRST XIII for winning their competitions. Well done also to the 10s who narrowly lost in the big one. And to all the other teams, job well done and maybe 2006 will be your year. On top of that we must congratulate the 9s and10s for competing in knockouts against teams from all over NSW and both teams being knockout champions.

On the representative scene St Johns had a fantastic year with 11 current players featuring in Canterbury sides from Harold Matthews to Premier League. This year we saw old boy Clifford Maanu make his First Grade debut for the Sharks, Cliffy played for St Johns from 1995-2001. It is also a testament to everyone involved in St Johns that we must be doing something right as Canterbury has invited 21 of our players from Under 15s to Under 18s to trial for rep sides for 2006. We wish all these boys the best and urge them to strive to do the best they can.

This year also saw St Johns win the Mod, International and Overall Cub Championships, and in another milestone Steve Page from our 18s was voted best player in the Canterbury District for Under 18s to A Grade. Congratulations must also go to Adam Rehayem from our 14s for winning a Gow Gates Scholarship to the NSWRL Academy.

Off the field St Johns also enjoyed great success as the club came together at functions like our Family B.B.Q at Begnell Oval which was attended by 500 people. The Red Faces night was a great night. Although not every team had an act every team was present on the night to encourage all the acts. Congratulations to the Under 6s and 7res on winning Red Faces. The Gala Days and Mothers Day promotion are the envy of the League. All visiting teams were surprised on Gala Day that they received medallions and were allowed on the jumping castle and even had their face painted for FREE; and as always the mums were very grateful for the glass of bubbly and roses on Mothers Day. The way the St Johns Family rallied behind their teams on grand final days was also commented on by all the other clubs and Canterbury officials and I assure you the kids really love seeing a big and vocal crowd supporting them. They also loved running through the Grand Final banner designed and made by the Mamary Family, I believe all the family had some input except Noel. Undoubtedly the biggest highlight of the year off the field would have to be the Sportsman's Dinner with over 260 people in attendance it was truly a great success. A big thanks goes out to George Saab, Julie Brown, Mark Brown and Fady Ghanem for all their hard work in organising and planning of the night.

All the success that St Johns enjoyed in 2005 comes back to the people of the club and the effort everyone puts in. Without your support none of this would be possible. 2005 saw a lot of new people join our club and the way they put their hand up and got involved with the club really showed their understanding and showed their pride to be part of the St Johns family. While everyone gave a hand there are a few people I would like to acknowledge at this point in time and if I do miss anyone I sincerely apologise. Firstly to Ciaron Burns club president and George Habib vice pres- ident these two men were the pillars behind this club while the rest of us got involved in our petty squabbles these two never lost sight of the big picture and kept the club steered in the right direction congratulations on a job well done. Also a big thank you to the Abou-Haider, Achmar, Allaze, Ayoub, Azzi, Bakhos, Bayad, Bechara, Bortone, Brown, Burns, Chakty, El-Azzi, El-Cheik, El-Eche, Fayad, Ghanem, Habib, Haddad, Hennings, Inia, Karam, Khoury, Malkoun, Mamary, Matuaina, McGrath, Michaels, Nakad, Nasr, Noujam, Paulson, Roumanous, Saab, Safetly, Siale, Singh, Tarchichi, Tasker and Trostel Families. This year was fantastic because of you.

So once again to ALL players, parents, team officials and the committee of St Johns congratulations on a great year and thanks for your support. See you in 2006.

George Bakhos (Secretary)

4 Treasurer’s Report

I am just as surprised as everyone else that I am preparing the 2005 Treasurers report . I suppose I got this responsibility after our elected treasurer took some time off to get married and enjoy their Honeymoon (congratulation to Fady and Melissa)

But before the Honeymoon was the bucks party, a trip to Vegas, half the executive and some coaches went M I A, incidentally this trip will feature in 2006 on the popular program C S I, You know with the blue light and all After looking at previous treasurers reports, I can confidently say that season 2005, financially, has been the most successful in St Johns history. This could not be achieved without the contribution of several people, Pierre and Catherine Fayed who annually take it upon themselves to organise the Chocolate Drive, the many that help in the canteen each weekend and setting up the field, George Bakhos and his Family, Julie Brown for her great effort with the sportsman dinner, this year we had 210 in attendance (last year 85), a great effort for a great night. For our kids to play a game of Rugby League there are numerous expenses. A club with 300 play- ers, 18 teams, 65 people on coaching staff, a training ground plus lighting as well as our home ground, training equipment, first aid kits, shorts, socks .All of this has a cost factor. Our sponsors provide good financial support through their donations. Special thanks to Punchbowl R S C, also Paul Tycehurst and C B D J R L whose grants are really appreciated (both Canterbury Leagues and Revesby Workers) and of course all the other team Sponsors whose contributions are invaluable. Finally for season 2006 we look forward to starting the year in a very sound financial position for the first time ever. George Habib (Acting Treasurer) Executive Committee

7 Under 6 Black Great Season

Our Under 6 blacks played well this season and will get a lot better in years to come. The team recorded three wins in the year and another in a post season gala day. The children gave 100% in every game they played and each one enjoyed playing.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents and children for their support and effort throughout the season, and I would like to also thank Norm (trainer), Catherine (trainer), and Carlene (manager) for their help, both on and off the field. Napier Paulson (coach)

Player Profiles Jacob Antoun was one of the smallest players on the team, Jacob loved running the ball and never showed fear of getting tackled. Played with a lot of heart. George Yarak showed a lot of strength and knowledge of the game; he ran hard at the line and was often the first to score for the team. Jeffrey Fale has two good abilities he can run the ball at the line fast and is also able to offload while getting tackled. Jeffrey can only get better. Jy Paulson was perhaps the fastest on the paddock and made a lot of try saving tackles for the team. Tarkin Dinclik has made slight improvement throughout the year but improving nonetheless. Daniel Sweid showed his passion for football in his first training session and enjoyed every game he played. Excellent in broken field attacks. Adam Mahajna has a good game he can play awesome and can read the defence very well, which resulted in his first try of the season. Joseph Khoury is an intelligent player and a good strong runner of the ball Christian Saofaileta is a strong player and can run hard at times. Look out for him next year. 8 Ahmad Douar enjoys training and game days he also (like his team mates) looks forward to running the ball during the games. Ahmad is also good in defence. Assad Achmar arrived later in the year but has shown a lot of strength in running the ball and can defend well Joseph Tannous also arrived later in the season, he has turned out to be a very enthusiastic player. Scored his first against East Hills.

9 Under 6 White Great Season

St Johns Under 6 Whites had a lot of new players to the team but we also saw the return of our youngsters from last year. The skills and abilities soon came out in the beginning of the season rather than the end and developed a lot of exciting games to watch.

The best highlights of the season was when we played Dragons in both the home and the away games. The two teams are equally matched and both sides enjoyed playing with each other.

Once again for another year I would like to thank Pauline Brown (coach) for all her time, patience and dedication to the team . I would also like to thank Lynette Brown(manager) for all her work and early wake ups to score and finally to Pierre Fayad (trainer) for all that yummy water supply each week and to the parents for bringing the children both to training and to the games.

Player Profiles David Abboud Is our tackling machine and a player that never says ‘I give up',if he got tackled more than likely he would turn his way out of their hands and make more ground. Leila Allazze From last year to this year you would not think it is the same person (it must be the boots) Leilas biggest asset was scoring from dummy half. Andrei Bakhos changed dramatically from last year. He ditched the red frogs and hit the try line and from that point there was no stopping him. Raymon Chakty From being lost at the concept and thinking he had to tackle his own team member to tackling anything that came his way and making sure they stay down. Dean El-Eche is one of the new players and also is the youngest player. He showed a lot of improvement from the beginning of the season to the end. Nathan Fayad This is Nathans second year and he is a great tackler for the team. With another year in under 6s he will be well and truly ready for under 7s in 2007 10 David Hatem has the ability to be a great player and will show his true colours with the skills he picked up from Pauline. Elias Hatem has another year in under 6s and shows the ability like his brother to do some very good tackling and towards the end of the season we saw that skill come out. Suzanna Safetly This is Suzies second year in under 6s and she showed us a couple of good runs. Suzie will have fun in the under 7s next year. Daniel Silva is one of our new players and he looked like he really enjoyed the game.lt was a new experience in learning with his team. Shamie Singh Shamie was our first receiver and improved a lot since last year. She should also have a lot of fun in the under 7s. Jamesville Woll is our star player. If there was a play to read he was 'the man'. James would find any gap and if not he would create one, his skills and abilities are way beyond under 6s. UNDER 6 White Results

11 Under 7 Semi Finalist

What a great season of football with many memorable moments to look back on. We started the year with six players from last year and four new ones that hadn't played before. From our first game I knew we had a very good team. We ended up with 12 wins, 3 loses and a draw in the 16 rounds. The finals proved to be too much for the boys losing both the pre-lim and semi final, but learning some valuable lessons and experiences. I am very proud of every one of them for such a wonderful year. They all played a big role in all our success for the season. Some of the high- lights were beating Dragons on their turf, playing at Telstra Stadium and the Show ground and all the players scoring points this year, especially Fatu who scored a try in every game.

I would like to thank all the parents that helped out at training, our touchies Robert Mansour and Eddie Saade and all the coaching staff.

Frank Trostel (Coach)

Player Profiles Anthony El Azzi Enthusiastic runner, always tried his best in defence. Daniel Mansour Very good footballer, played above his age, third highest point scorer. Fatu Togagae Our captain and best player, Man of the Match in every game. Lead by example and would not be the same team without him. Out scored, out tackled and out ran everybody. Frankie Trostel Our acting half with safe hands and always keen in defence. George Saade Eager runner with the ball, always involved and improved with every game. John Kaufusi Our first receiver, good ball skills and chased in defence till he got his man. John Paul Nakad Strong hitups and some hard tackles, could have scored more tries, player of the future. 12 Joshua Doueihi Keen runner with the ball, enthusiastic tackler. Michael Ranieri Would always break the first tackle when running with the ball, and tried hard in defence. Tony Azzi Strong runner with the ball, very good in defence, putting on some big hits.

13 Under 7 Reserves Semi Finalist

The St Johns Under 7res was formed 4 days before the competition started. We started the season with 9 players of which 3 were girls (Georges angels) and out of the 9 only 2 had played football previously - Stephanie and Domonique. Two weeks into the competition, we recruited Brandan into the side. The aim of the season was to learn the basics of rugby league and more importantly to have FUN.

This side renewed my faith in rugby league and what it stood for. Every week these kids would turn up to training keen to learn and would implement everything we tried at training into the following weeks game. They developed a strong bond and urged each other to always do their best. These kids really grasped the concept that rugby league is a TEAM sport and to succeed everyone has to contribute.

The most pleasing aspect of this side is the fact that they always believed in themselves and no one ever shirked their responsibilities; this was most evident in the game against Moorebank in the last competition round. Moorebank were the competition leaders and we needed to win this game to qualify for the semi-finals. The team took the field with the attitude that there was no way they would come off the field without every player giving it their best shot. In the end we won the game and qualified for the semi-finals and relegated Moorebank from top spot on the ladder. While the win was fantastic the most pleasing aspect of the game was the fact that of the seven tries we scored in that game each was scored by a different player and in defence EVERY player made at least one crucial tackle that stopped the opposition scoring.

Finally I must thank Vivian my manager, Billy and Louie my trainers and Daniel my assistant coach for all the support and encouragement that you gave the kids and myself during the year. To the parents thanks for your efforts all year without you none of this is possible, it was pleasing to see parents fighting over whose turn it was to wash the jer- seys you all wanted to do it every week. Also to all the sisters and brothers of our team thanks for your help at train- ing and game days.

The under 8's boys tried their best this season, but with a lack of numbers and commitment from some team members. The odds were against them from the start, so it was a very difficult sea- son.

Although we only won one game some of the boys were very competitive and tried their hardest all the time.

I would like to thank the under 7's Coach, Manager and Trainer as well as Fatu Togagae, John Kaufusi, John Paul Nakad, Michael Ranieri, George Saade and their parents.

17 Under 9 Premiers

A Grand Final victory well overdue but very much worth the wait. This is a special group of kids along with their parents who have worked so hard for such a long time therefore there's no-one more deserving of a little success than this team. It's been a year that everyone involved with this team will surely treasure. Because not only did we finish the season undefeated in our competition we also won the state knockout at Ingleburn, taking on the very best U/9 sides from around the state, were we won all five games on the one day. The impact new players Moustafa Warwar and Ali Naijarine had on the side was a great bonus along with the improvement from Jake and Fuff ensured we were in for a big year. I'd like to thank my trainer Robert and my manager Lina who did a superb job all year, the parents who gave me the full support that I required, our ball-girl Yazmin and touch judge John. A special mention to my good friend Sionne who's input to the team cannot be underestimated. Well-done St Johns U/9's I couldn't be a prouder coach and I thank you all for your effort through-out the 2005 season, enjoy your holidays and I look forward to seeing everyone back next year to defend our title and maybe even the knockout title. Bill Allazze (Coach)

Player Profiles April Tuigamala Our five-eight and didn't she do a top job setting up and scoring tries. Felix Moli Got back to his best this year what an exciting player to watch on his day. Jason De Gois Brilliant finisher running off April and set up April for her fair share as well. Ali Najjarine The man for the occasion in big games, was outstanding in both the knockout grand-final and the premiership decider. 19 Under 10 Grand Finalists

This season Under 10 Grade had a very challenging season. We started with two new players (Michael & Riley). They never played football before but they picked up the game really well throughout the season. Early in the season we lost two games to Berala & two games to Padstow, so it was time to rebuild our confidence in the third round. We beat Berala 43-22 & Padstow 33- 27 in the third round. Our young players started to believe in themselves with our main players leading all the way to the Grand Final. It was tough and frustrating . The boys had more chances to win the grand final but things didn't go our way and when you try too hard, more mistakes. It was hard for me to see the kids so upset when they failed to do what they had in mind, but let me tell you, when you make mistakes that's when you learn and it can only make you a better player. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my coaching staff: trainers - Michael Funaki & John Tafao, managers - Suliana Siale & Julie Michael, for all their hard work and continuous support that made my job a lot easier throughout the season. To the parents who help out at training, Siaosi Siale, Valenitini Vaikeli, Joe Maree, Brett for the passing equipment. A special thank you to our touch judge Tanielu who supplied our drinks for the boys every week, to Sue Maree for washing our jersys every week, to George Malkoun for supplying man of the match ($10.00) each week, to Luisa & family for transporting of players, to our Ball boys Ronny Maree, Dillon Singh, Daniel Tuulau, Igo Faaui & William Siale, Ball Girls Easther Tafao & Stephanie Michael, Sateki & George for filming our games every week. A big thank you to our sponsor, Moraitis Family, Leaders in Fresh Produce for their generous & continuous support. And last but not least I would like to thank all the St Johns executives, coaching staff, parents, supporters & players for their support throughout the season. Sosaia Siale (Coach) 20 Player Profiles Riley Tasker (second row) His first year in the game, strong player. Needs time to build his confidence. Terry Tafao (hooker) A great hooker, always backs up his team. Tevin Singh (hooker) He's not as big as the other players, but likes to challenge any one on the field. Misieli Vaikeli (second row) He had no fear, very aggressive in both attacking and defence, one of our tackling machine on the field. (Most Improvement) Michael Guthrie (half back) His first year in the game. The smallest one in U10, has a heart of a lion, won't backdown without a fight. Very smart player. (Most Improvement) Luke Michael (prop) He can take the ball up in the ruck area, find the hole or just step through the defence. Jason Tuulau (second row) You can't run away
