3 PRESIDENT’S REPORT

2019 saw our great Club complete 55 years of quality . Our 55th was our biggest with 24 teams and 324 registered players finishing the season. Success was also big and when the bell rang around 8.30pm at on Saturday 31 August, we had won 4 Premierships for the season – And despite the opposition supporters doing their best to drown out our team song, nothing could hide the fact we’d hit the 100 premierships earlier that day and now clicked over to 102!!

But no modern interview, report or article can be without the word ‘journey’ and our ‘journey’ began back at rego time. We had good numbers for the minis, we had good numbers returning, we snared some extra 13s and 14s to ensure 2 teams in each age and we saw 8 under 17s return to the Club and bring 15 of their mates to form a more than competitive team. Unfortunately, we lost last year’s premiership winning 14s basically because 1 kid at school said there’s no team so the rest didn’t register. Then 14 of them registered in different clubs – Old saying ‘You can’t put brains in statues’.

People ask me how we continue to get good numbers. I have thought long and hard about this because most clubs charge similar fees, provide shirts, good presentations and gifts etc, etc – these have always been a given at our Club. I can only come up with our great administration. Sounds nerdy but the modern parent wants their child in an organised atmosphere and your committee, coaches and most managers provide that – good communication, game days like clockwork, all players and team personnel correctly attired and accredited. I make no apology for making the Club follow the rules, I think it’s working!

Chris has documented our successes in his Secretary’s Report and of course you will be reading that next. Congratulations to all our winners and all our teams. I will only look at 2 results. Our U12-3s were a combo side of 11s and 12s because we had a team and a half of 11s and a team and a half of 12s. We compromised with a 12-3s as there were quite a few boys playing their first year of league and there was no way I was letting them miss the chance of playing footy. Team Kitiona (Mark coach, John trainer and Mette manager) took them under their wing and after winning the minor premiership were first into the big one. They went down by 4. Team Kitiona were also in charge of the 16 Girls – they clawed their way into the big one but also went down by 4. Keep in mind that Mette and Team Kitiona also run our Canteen so I always hope that people who are great workers for the Club get some form of footy enjoyment / ultimate reward with a Premiership – unfortunately the sporting gods did not share my hopes for these workers in 2019. Team Kitiona, I know your pain.

We started the year on 98 Premierships from our past 54 seasons and talk among the coaches was at fever pitch as to which team would get the 100th. Personally, I was hoping the U13 Gold would get the 100. Coached by Grant Hanratty (current Vice President, Life Member, 10 year player) and the name Hanratty being synonymous with Saints footy (Ken former President, Life Member and current photographer, Mick 20 year player and Wayne 10 year player) if ever a name deserved to be associated with our 100th, it was Hanratty. A couple of early GF losses and a scheduling system that saw our 18 girls play at 9am to snare our 99th, the stars aligned and the chance of the 100th did fall to the 13 Gold. And, in an eerie similarity, we hadn’t won a 13 Gold since 2010 and that was against Greenacre and it was played away from Belmore also. Well this time the gods did smile and after a nail biting finish, Coach Hanratty and team proudly held our 100th trophy aloft!! Sometimes the workers are rewarded!

On a sadder note, we lost a couple of Club ‘pioneers’ during the season - Dick O'Grady (Club President 1974, 1975 and Treasurer in 1977) and Noelene Byron (President 1973). We should always be grateful for the work these people did in the early years of the Club and I am sure they would be smiling knowing we are still going strong in our 55th year. Last year we lost John ‘Tiger’ Woods (Club secretary from 1977 to 1981 and Life member). In memory of John, I am pleased to announce this year we will be presenting the ‘John Woods Memorial Award’ - this will be an award for a person who goes ‘above and beyond’ in helping the Club and will preserve our memories of John and remind us of the great work he (and others) did for the Club. Stay tuned!

And though a little embarrassed, I can’t let our Annual Journal not record a couple of inaugural Life Memberships. Ken Slattery (our Treasurer from 2004 and main ground official) and myself have been awarded Life Membership of the Canterbury DJRL. Our long term work for our Club and 4 involvement in the Junior League has been recognised by the District and as we are the first from Saints to receive Junior League life memberships, I must put this on record – more for Slats that me!!!!!

Now for the thank yous:-  Our major sponsor CPE . Once again Charlie has outfitted the entire Club for this and next season to ensure we are the best dressed Club in the district;  Mette and Katia in the canteen with special mentions to Nyree, Jane and Kylee– thank you ladies;  Our coaches, managers and trainers for your expertise in looking after our teams and players;  Our ground FAOS - Steve Klem, John Kitiona, Corey Gardiner; Paul Winterstein, Charlie Assaf and Sean Khoury;  The parents and grandparents who helped in the canteen, on the BBQ and assisted in selling raffle tickets at our venues;  Ken Slattery for his professional running of the ground each Saturday;  Jon D’Astoli for running the Friday night Joker at Revesby Pub and his great help in compiling this year book;  Ken Hanratty for our Anzac day celebration, team photos, ground improvements and updating the Clubhouse honour boards;  All those who organised our social functions; and last but not least  Our hard working committee of Grant, Zedman, Slats, Morsie, Baz and Copie. Thanks boys, fantastic work.

That’s it – see you all next year.

GO THE SAINTS

John Grealy President

Newly elected Life Members of the Canterbury Junior League Club President John Grealy and Treasurer Ken Slattery are recognised for their many years of service 5 SECRETARY’S REPORT

A whopping 24 sides were fielded this year by the club, which I think is massive. This generates to approximately 275 players… It’s not the quantity that means success though.

Out of thirteen competitive sides (u9’s and up), seven made grand finals, and out of that seven, four teams (u13 Bronze, u13 Gold, u14 Gold and u18 Girls) won their age/division premierships. But it’s not the amount of premierships that means success.

Success is measured by the quality of people within the club. People that go out of their way to volunteer their time, giving back to others, helping out wherever may be, and going above and beyond what they think they should be doing. That to me, is what success is about.

Our committee was valuable in doing these things this year. Thank you John Grealy, Grant Hanratty, Ken Slattery, Paul Morse, Barry Sullivan, and the newby to the committee, James Cope. The big decisions need to come from somewhere, and the committee we have on board don’t hesitate in making these big decisions. We ended up having two sides which, one side had to cut players, and the other could possibly fold by not having enough players, but alas, both sides competed, and had pretty good seasons under the circumstances. This was helped by both the committee and the coaching staff & parents of these children working together and getting the result of saving both these teams.

I also want to thank those who were elected as sub-committee this year that came in to help when the ground officials were either overseas, working or off sick, mainly Steve Klem and his family, Cameron Mitchell and Jimmy Whitney. There’s also those extra helpers who would pop down early to Bill Delauney on a cold Saturday morning to help set-up the field, cut bread rolls and start cooking the BBQ. There’s too many to name, but you know who you are!

Onto the wonderful volunteers who gave up their time to help in the canteen. Mette Kitiona, and the whole Kitiona family, Katia Todd, Nyree Hanratty, Jane Cope, and Kylee Sullivan, who would actually spend most of their Saturdays working tirelessly serving the hordes of visitors, your work never goes unnoticed. Thank you!

To all the coaches, managers and trainers that volunteered for each and every age group. You done a wonderful job, and hopefully you have seen improvements in each and every child’s performance that you dealt with. This again reflects success to me, and if you achieved it, congratulations! Let’s hope that it brings you all back next year to achieve bigger and better results? The unseen and quite tireless work that people like Ken Hanratty and Jon D’Astoli do to help us in any way they can, thank you!

To all our sponsors, your support to our club is paramount, and I would like to thank you on behalf of the committee and all the members. CPE Australia, Daystar First National, Orange Bins, MRM Logistics, Panania Diggers, Richards Quality Meats, Revesby Pacific Hotel, Dyna Constructions, C-Day Electrical, Echo Boards and Products, LumbaLite, Cypher Solutions, Copebuild, Mibyte Technologies, Pacific Components, Abstract Plumbing, MPE Custom Switchboards, APS , Pikkio Pizzeria, Alpha Cranes & Rigging, SportsLink Physiotherapy, B&L Smash Repairs, Paul Swibel Electrical, Sinalli & WildFX.

To all those at the Canterbury Bankstown District Junior League and the Rugby League, thank you for the seamless support that you offer us as a club, and for what you do to help field our players into their respective competitions.

To all the parents, relatives and anyone who has come to support us in anyway, thank you to you too! To the players, I hope you all shine both on and off the field, and I hope to see you all back next year… and hey, why not bring a mate, someone that has never dared venture into league, but wants a challenge. The good thing about success is, although you can measure it in many ways, it can always get better, and grow not only within one’s self but throughout our whole community!

Chris Zanbaka Secretary 6 CLUB SPONSORS Thank you to all the wonderful sponsors who have supported us. We hope to see you all again in 2019.

12 LIFE MEMBERSHIP

The following two Life Membership nominations were accepted at the 2018 Annual General Meeting.

Jane Grealy – Proposed by Grant Hanratty, seconded by Ken Slattery

Jane joined our Club in 1998 when her son Matthew joined our U6s. A regular in the canteen in those first few years, Jane took on her first official role in 2002 as manager of the U7s (youngest son Tom’s team). From 2004 till 2011 Jane was the Club statistician keeping track of all Club players’ tries, goals and games played. This was before the league had computer systems in place so these stats were essential for our annual journal and future records.

While still being club statistician Jane took on the major role of Canteen Manager in 2008 and continued in that role for 8 years until 2015. This meant Jane was our longest serving Canteen manager and in her time managed gross sales of $364,160 resulting in a profit for the club of $155,299 – these monies all contributing towards reduced rego fees, training gear, game day gear, training shirts, trophies etc. On average the canteen operates 22-25 days per season and Jane would be there from 7.30am till an hour after the last game (sometimes 5pm) on all those days. Of course the ordering, buying, re-stocking was all done by Jane during the week – certainly one of the most important roles in the Club.

Given Jane finished with the Club in 2015, this nomination is a little late in recognising Jane’s service, however in a season where the Club fielded our first ‘all girl’ teams (U16s and U18s), it seems the appropriate time to elect our first woman life member.

Ross Kendall – Proposed by Chris Zanbaka, seconded by John Grealy

Ross joined our Club in 1998 when his son Troy joined our U8s. Ross or ‘Killer’ to has many mates, took on his first roles in 2002 as trainer for both our U6s and U12s. The following year he managed Troy’s U13s team which was the last year Troy played. This did not deter Ross who continued with roles over the next 14 years with the Club, mainly as Team manager before moving to his specialist role of strapper.

Many would not realise the team strapper is generally at the game 90 minutes to 2 hours before kick-off and stays for the whole game completing running repairs on players during the game. Ross has averaged 2 teams per year for the last 5 years which means he selflessly gives up a minimum of 4 hours of his time every Saturday and most Sundays - with no child at the Club!

Ross Kendall – Record of service

COACH’S REPORT

This year was my second year of coaching in the U5s and WOW! What an awesome couple of years it has been. We started this season with 11 players - 3 of the boys in their second year of football and 8 in their first year. There was lots of boot lace tying and tears but most of all lots of fun and laughs.

The boys started off the season a little slow, losing their first 3 games to then having a week off and finding their bearings to get a win in round 5. They finished the season with 4 wins and 1 draw. My plan was the same and will always stay the same, to develop their skills and help these young men become good footballers, but most of all to have fun while playing the game. Win, lose or draw the boys always come off the field excited to sing the team song and left with a smile on their little faces.

The boys all improved as a team in their first year together. Showing great skill and knowledge of the game for such young boys as well as building friendships that will hopefully last a lifetime.

A big thanks you to Joanne, Andrew, Matt, Simon and Dale for their hard work and dedication on and off the field when myself or Andrew couldn’t be there to do so. I couldn’t have done it without you guys. To John, Chris and Grant and the rest of our committee, thanks for all the hard work and commitment you guys put in to our Club, you are all the reason the Club runs like a well-oiled machine, cheers! 15 Last but not least, thank you to all of our parents for bringing your kids down to play for the mighty Saints! For getting them to training, game days and getting up early to support our club with our duties before our home games. Also, for the support and faith each and every one of you had in Joanne, Andrew, myself and most of all - the boys. I hope to see the same little faces back next year, ready to learn more about the game and improve on their skills. Enjoy the break!

PLAYER PROFILES

Julian Ashkar: Julian was a dark horse this year, suddenly feeling comfort in our team and showing off his lighting fast speed and big curly hair, Julian knew how to get to the try line pretty fast and score the points that were needed. Well done Julian!

Harrison Barrett: Harrison was a second-year player this year and had a good year with hard running and crunching tackles. Once he winds up, he’s pretty hard to stop or even get past. Well done Harrison!

Nathaniel Dib: Nate in his first year of footy really set the standard from the start of the season for our team with the courage to put his body on the line and tackle anything in front of him combined with his strong running of the ball, which off the back of managed to score a little over 100 points for the year. Well done Nate!

Abdul Elrozz: Abdul was one of our quiet kids in the team. When he would run the ball, he would make good metres to put the rest of his team in a good position to score more points. I’m hopeful he will be back next year with more confidence so we can push him a little to show us what he is really made of. Well done Abdul!

George Johnson: George had a great first year of rugby league. Turning up every week with a big smile on his face ready to train or play. He improved every week by perfecting his tackling technique from making spectacular try saving tackles to using his vision to get around the opposition and score tries. Well done George!

Aneti Levy: Aneti was a very quiet kid, acting very shy and timid, even mute at the start of the season but once we won his trust, he really seemed to love the game of rugby league. Aneti is a very strong runner of the ball and hard to stop but would also assist in each tackle to help his team mates out to get the opposition player to the ground as well as helping up the opposition from the ground at times. Well done Aneti!

Deon Moran: Deon had a great year this season. He has great speed and good knowledge of the game, knowing how and where to score lots of tries but also making multiple tackles in a row if the opposition were coming back in his direction. Well done Deon!

Sebastian Rose: Sebastian had a quiet year in his first year of footy, assisting in tackles where he could and getting across the line for a try. We are hoping he will return next year, come out of his shell a bit more and get the best out of him next year. Well done Sebastian! Gabriel Sabbagh: Gabriel, our youngest on the field showed great enthusiasm this year, always willing to run the ball and help out his team mates in tackles when needed. Well done Gabriel! Braye Tatham: Braye had a good second year of footy. Braye has also shown great knowledge and vision of the game. From using his big fend against the opposition to score length of the field tries to darting quickly close to the line to get the points that his team needed. Well done Braye!

Jacob Thompson: Jacob, also a second year player this year had a good season. He was always helping out in tackles when he could and always making good meters with the ball when he ran it. Well done Jacob!

COACH’S REPORT

It was my pleasure to coach the Under 5 Blue team this season. Having been coach of a number of the players’ older brothers over the last couple of years, I had a rough idea of what to expect with this group i.e a bunch of keen and aggressive brothers! The first year of footy is always an interesting experience for players and parents alike with the anticipation of how they will take to it. Overall, I was very impressed with the level of skill this team had from the start and the signs of good team work coming through in some of the attacking play toward the end of the season.

Defence is the foundation of any good rugby league team and I was particularly pleased with ours. The eagerness of the team to rip in in defence is critical to success and our team lacked nothing here. We may need to work on where we tackle as no doubt a few of our opponents came away with sore heads. This 17 will come. Caysan and Vaughan’s fearless defence from the opening game set the tone for the rest of the team and I was so pleased to see Isaiah and Sahara getting involved in the defence by the end of the season.

Our attack was very impressive for beginners. Xavier’s speed was a regular feature of our games, Carter’s sidestep and evasion was silky and Harrison’s fend helped get him across the try line a number of times. All natural skills no doubt developed to avoid older siblings. Some of the tries the team scored left the parents in awe.

I would like to thank Andrew Sheehy, Cameron Phelps and Ben Barrett for managing and training the team this year. You all made it easy for me to be involved and I look forward to contributing again next year. I’d also like to thank the coaches, managers and parents of Under 5 White and look forward to watching their development as well.

To the boys and girls in Under 5 Blue, thank-you for playing this season. I really hope you enjoyed your first year in Rugby League and come back to St Christopher’s in 2020. I look forward to seeing your skills develop and watching you learn some valuable lessons but most importantly have fun playing the greatest game of all!

PLAYER PROFILES

Vaughn Barrett: Vaughan whilst one of the smaller members of the side is one of the toughest. You could see he wanted to get physical from the get go at training! His defence was tireless and effective and he also contributed some great length of the field runs resulting in tries throughout the year. Well done Vaughan on a great first year of Rugby League.

Xavier Bates: It became obvious early that it was best to give Xavier a run late in the tackle count as it typically finished in a try. Xavier has natural pace which is a great asset for any league player. You could see he was eating up everything to do with footy and was a pleasure to coach this year. I look forward to watching his development over the coming years. Well done Xavier

Sahara El-Chami: Sahara was at times a little shy and reserved which is natural for a lot of kids starting sport. Once she got going though, she made some fantastic runs including a couple of length of the field tries. I was particularly impressed with her effort in defence, she chased everything that moved and made a couple of great tackles towards the back end of the year. Great to coach you Sahara and see you in 2020

Caysan-James Fa’anoi: Caysan may well have been a Kamikaze pilot in a previous life. He was our defensive leader and had a total disregard for his own well-being. His tackling was exceptional (When kept below the neck) and his running was very effective too. He scored some great tries this year and is going to be a great little Rugby League Player.

Harrison Mortimer: Hurricane Haz! Harry took to footy this year like a duck to water. Early in the year he was able to score some excellent tries through a great natural palm. His tackling was all effort and by the end of the year Harry was pulling off tackles stopping the opposition on the spot. Always one of the most enthusiastic members of the team, it’s been a pleasure to coach you as your dad for your first year of footy. Well done Harry.

Carter Phelps: The Smiling assassin. Carter is the one of the happiest kids in the team yet one of the most dangerous. His attacking running was excellent with a natural step and swerve. Carter scored some excellent tries this year through the middle of the opposition which is rare for under 5’s. He also pulled off some great tackles this season. Great work Carter.

Nicholas Sheehy: Nick Sheehy is one of the fastest boys in the team. Early in the year he scored some great length of the field tries. One thing I enjoyed throughout the year was Nicky’s on field feedback

18 sessions, always checking in with me once he made a great run or tackle prior to the next play – very coachable. Nicky is going to be a very good league player. Well done Nicky.

Nash Sherwin: Nash is one of the most relaxed players I’ve met. At times it seemed he was just happy to be part of things and then he would take a run beating 4 or 5 players to score a fantastic try. His defence when he got involved was superb. Been a pleasure coaching you this year Nash and look forward to watching your progression next year

Isaiah Sleiman: Isaiah’s first year of Rugby League was disrupted by illness however he was always an enthusiastic player when he was available. Another shy but happy kid, you could see his enjoyment from contributing to the team. What pleased me was watching his enthusiasm turn into results with a great few runs and tries late in the season. Well done Isaiah and look forward to seeing you in 2020!

We’re on next boys…

COACH’S REPORT

What an intro into my coaching career! I originally started the season wanting to help my eldest nephew, but when Mr. Grealy rings and asks for help, well who am I to turn him down?

I had an absolute ball with my new little mates, only had 2 weeks together before our first trial so we had to work very quickly. With only 3 boys who had played footy before we were all pretty green. However, we started the season with a bang winning our first trial very convincingly and suddenly I thought this coaching caper was pretty easy. We finished the season the same way with a great win! A few mixed results during the year but never did this group give up which made me extremely proud.

Paul, unbelievable amount of help even though he was training another team as well! Always there to get the water for the players and especially me, was always first to dish out the lollies too! Thanks Paul.

To my big Sis Dani, thanks for a great first season together, you did a great job as manager. We would’ve been lost without your managerial skills. You were all over every aspect of your role. Thanks Dani. 20 Thanks to Saints for giving me the opportunity to coach my first team! The future is bright for Saints with boys like this coming through.

Mums and dads thank you for trusting me with your kids, they are great little guys (sometimes) now in no particular order.

PLAYER PROFILES

Ryder Yelverton: Thank you for keeping me laughing with your stories and arm waving and laying down on the job, oh and your cartwheels! Finally got your try in the last game, what an achievement!

Andrew Succar: My little machine, little boy but heart of a lion! You have been a pleasure to coach! Always listening to everything I had to say!

Aidan Weir: The boy with the big fend, can’t wait to see you grow next year! Aiden is going to be a handful when he realises how big and strong he is, we saw glimpses of it this year so looking forward to what comes next!

Isaac Aad: Mr 50, 50 tries for the season, what more can I say, I love watching Isaac play! Isaac reads the game like someone that has been playing for years!

Jake Greige: Another lil fella with a fearsome attitude! I love watching Jake lurking in a fullback position and come through and bash the other team with some bone crunching cover tackles!

Cayden Winterstein: What a runner of the football, the way he weaves through the defence is incredible, gonna be a scary ball carrier in a couple of years!

Thomas Bettison: What a season he had! From where he started to where he finished has amazed me! Still had some ups and downs along the way but I’m very proud of this young man!

Isaac Aad, first year at Saints scored an even 50 tries!

COACH’S REPORT

It was a great season throughout, all players showed great team skills, and played to the best of their abilities. There was so much improvement in ball work, tackles and teamwork. For their second season they have gained more experience running the ball and great tackling skills.

We also had three new players this year, who made a great effort with the team. We won a few games and lost a few but in all games the boys showed initiative and great ball skills.

PLAYER PROFILES

Jospeh Ayoub: A little machine, loves to run the ball, loves to get involved, and has made a massive effort with his tackling this year. Will be a great asset to any team.

Anthony Chahda: Anthony had such a brilliant start to the season, he is a force to be reckoned with. He has great defence and running play. When he has the ball move out of his way!

22 James Dib: Small in stature big in heart, this little man is a tackle machine. This was James first year in our team, James showed us he will be a force in the years to come.

Jayden El-Chalouhi: First year at the club and once settled in showed what he was capable of. With more training and commitment has the potential to develop into a very talented footballer.

Matthew Ganeme: Great player with outstanding defence always willing take those hit ups when needed. Massive improvement this year with his running and tackling.

Eli Hannouche: Nicknamed “The Flash” Eli is very quick off the mark and a great defender. Defiantly one to watch out for. When running with the ball, they can’t stop him.

Patrick Khoury: Patricks first year with us started a little slow, however he has improved and showed his team he will be an amazing team player. He loves to get in there and make the tackles.

Gabriel Latu: Gabriel had great determination and a very competitive streak, when tackling he showed us what he is capable of, and always a great team player.

Billy Mannah: Billy was another very strong runner and when running straight was hard to stop, great tackling skills and good understanding of the game. His improvement this year shows us what a great player he will become.

COACH’S REPORT

A new year, new team, new players! With an influx of new junior talent to join the club, we had a lot to learn in a short time, with a few players from last year leading the way, the new recruits managed to pick up the game of league real fast! Trainings were fun, and always filled with laughter, accompanied with the odd tear or two, the team went from strength to strength, week in week out.

First Tries, first tackles, first Runs were all part of the season, and it was so good to see improvements in new players, and our returning players fine tuning and improving their skill set. The season ended on a high at the inaugural U6 Gala Day, where our opposing teams were impressed with our team’s performance on the day.

A big thank you to our Managers, Training Squad, and our amazing parents for a great season.

24 PLAYER PROFILES

Kyle Baker: If ever there was a kid who loved his team, here he is, small in stature but played with the biggest heart. A few tears to start the season, but that turned to tackles and tries as he improved and learnt the game. An outstanding rookie season, I have no doubt he will bigger and better next year.

Haitham Elcheikh: A natural talent! Returning for another year, Haitham never cease to amaze, his raw talent to run and tackle, made him one of our standout players. Quiet by nature, but grabs everyone’s attention on the field, always keen to learn and improve an asset to any team!

Max Gaughan: Another rookie, Max is an all-round talent, trains hard, and plays harder. Week in week out would give 110%, and it showed on the field, racking up a tally of tries, untold tackle count, all with the biggest smile! A real team player, he was an asset to our team!

Viliami ‘Willy ‘ Lolohea-Tema: Another returning talent, with the basics all locked in, Willy added to his skill set with textbook tackles and a devastating sidestep, he scored a number tries and made some superb tackles! Willy always gives his very best, and always looking to improve his game, and all with a SMILE!

Houd Makhfi: Easily our youngest and smallest player, but in his rookie season, he would always train and play with the biggest heart. His fearlessness and determination, right from the start, made him a very lethal ball runner and a tough defensive player. Houd will be one to watch next season.

Callan Mitchell: Another rookie of the team, Callan showed his natural sporting abilities, scoring a number of tries and just as many try saving tackles, once he mastered the art of league there was no stopping him, his speed and agility always kept his team moving forward, a talented individual!

Awatea Salt: Returning for his second year at the Saints, it was clear to see Awa had been working on his game in the off season, developing a unique sidestep along with agility and speed, he tore through opponents, scoring some great individual tries, leading his team with another great year.

Anthony ‘AJ’ Strother: Also returning for a second year AJ scored his first try early in the season, and that set the tone for the remainder of the year. His speed and knowledge of the game always gave AJ an edge when on the field, and he would always bring grit and determination to training and game day!

Isaiah Vili: A first timer with a big future! Unsure of league, thoughts of leaving, Isaiah stuck with it and turned on a ripper of a rookie season. Our big boy with a big personality, always a joy to have at training creating a very playful atmosphere! But once he learnt the game he was unstoppable and teams were always on check when he was around.

Elinthia West: Our final rookie and only girl in the team, she came to training to give it a go and ended being a vital part of the team. She had speed and energy to burn, and once she settled into the team, she went from strength to strength scoring some of the best individual tries of the season!

COACH’S REPORT

We all started the year as rookies - Coach, Trainer, Manager and five of our nine. But as a team, we each brought something different to the team and while it took time, we soon merged from individuals to a team who would attempt to support and help each other, even if it took most of the season.

While we didn’t notch up a win, you would think we won every game with the enthusiasm they put into the team song and the smiles on their faces every week. One mother labelled them our little team of misfits, but they all fit into the team and ensured we shared the work, and everyone got a go. Their attack was relentless, they took it to every team, if only they would grasp the concept that you need to tackle to stop the other team.

From a first-year coach’ perspective, it was an eye opener, starting the season with a brand-new team but once I realised all they want to do is run, tackle and sing the team song, it became fun for us all. I hope to see them all return I know I want to if they’ll have me. Thank you to all the parents on behalf of Kylie, Aaron & I, for being patient while we found our feet then as we moved through the season

26 PLAYER PROFILES

Hudson Anderson: Where to start, this kid listens to everything, even when told to put his head down and just run at that big kid, well we all learnt how to manage the concussion rule. His determination drove him to play his best every week and as one of the few who listens at training was soon driving the team around the field. I could ask for a nicer kid to be on the team, he was always thinking about his team mates before himself.

Joni Ayoub: Joni came back this year with a new determination and being the biggest on the team learnt to use his size and strength to his advantage, making more tackle breaks than any another. He also learnt to palm off players and after that, was a try scoring machine. His tackling is developing too, and he is becoming a rounded player if he learns to draw on the strength of the team, he doesn’t have to do it all himself, but we all saw him try too.

William Crynes: This was William’s first year and once we realised how to release his inner beast he soon become a team titan, dominating in both defence and attack, becoming one of the constant try scores. And then he learnt to palm, he was unstoppable. William’s skills developed through the season and his potential to grow into a great player was soon seen. He understood the value of team work often supporting others in their runs and tackles, a get team player.

Iziah Falanga: After returning to the area, Izzy joined the team and quickly became a quite achiever. He would dominate in defence taking on players twice his size and was fearless in his running of the ball. As he learnt to step he soon found gaps and was also often the champion of bull rush. Izzy also embraced the team concept, ensuring he got in and help bring down the bigger kids and running in support. Izzy’s talent didn’t reach his full potential this year but next year hold great promise.

Charles Findlay: Charlie was a mixed bag, I never knew which version I would get each week. He would line up constantly for the ball, but once in his hands, he would cover three of the four directions he had to pick from. We worked on this and he soon found himself driving forward. He was always there in the thick of it and when he put his mind to it, he made an impact. Next year if Charlie focus more on the game he will soon become a force to be reckoned with.

Jonah Honeine: Jonah was always there, if it was his turn to run or not. He pushed forward with the drive of any NRL Prop. It was this drive that saw him constantly crossing the line and he wasn’t shy when it came to tackling, he was involved in at least half the tackles each game. Jonah quickly became a work horse for the team never wanting to leave the field. On the field he was ruthless in his performance then he would come off and thank us. An amazing team player.

Brayden Jones: Brayden migrated from the south to join the club but was extremely shy and held back. However, when we found a way to get his war face on he became a Hulk, seeing him moving forward with an entire team on him. It took weeks for us to break through and even get more than a few words out of him, but we didn’t need to, he would listen then get at the game in with the performance of a veteran. A great break out year for him, I look forward to more from him.

Alyssa Thompson: Alyssa had an advantage, for some reason boys don’t want to tackle girls. Her first few runs each game saw her scooting down the sideling at a rapid speed. But she was shy in getting involved for some reason, but when forced into play she would dart to the side and make meters in not time, a great secret weapon as she was quick to her feet to play the ball. Her passion lay in Bull Rush, if only she got into the game as much as she did training she’d be unstoppable.

Hayden Stubbs: There is no greater passion for the game and team than Hayden’s. He found his place as Dummy Half, driving the team around the field, calling the shots on who was next and where to run. Then when he took his head gear off we knew he was about to show us all how to play, demonstrating how to palm and drive. When he put his fear aside he became a hero on the field needing at least three or four players to stop him, most of the time not even getting him down.

COACH’S REPORT

Myself along with Morts enjoyed coaching the Under 7 Whites. This year was a learning curve for the boys who had to learn how to play as team and think for themselves on the field.

We saw some impressive footy played and saw each individual improve his or her skills. To see the boys’ confidence develop each week was a pleasure to watch.

We would like to thank the parents of the boys for supporting them each week and getting them to training. To Dave and Kelly for managing the team and to Cameron and Josh for always helping throughout the year with training or whatever was needed.

To the boys in Under 7 White, thanks for a great year, I hope you not only enjoyed your footy but also had fun along the way. Look forward to watching you all play footy in the future.

COACH’S REPORT

With the majority of the players returning from last year’s team, we also gained a handful of new players, some from other clubs and some it was their first time. From day one all the boys had a great attitude at training and on game day. They played with passion and great team spirit. As the season progressed they became an amazing team in both attack and defence. We as parents were all very proud to watch them play week in and week out.

Many thanks needs to go to the coach Bill, trainer Steve and manager Jane, without their commitment throughout the season there would be no team. Thank you to all the parents who assisted on the BBQ and in the canteen, this was a great team effort. A special thank you goes to Kate Taulanga, Michelle Flynn and Jane Cope for giving up their Friday nights to attend the Joker Draw raffles, they were a big hit! To the committee of the Club who make it so all our boys can play and keep the Club running, your efforts never go unnoticed.

COACH’S REPORT

Another football season passes in what seems like the blink of an eye. I have been very fortunate to be involved with this team for 4 years now, 3 as trainer and this year as coach after a minor reshuffle between coach and trainer, with Copey now trainer and Whits retained as Manager.

This year saw 3 exciting new signings added to our roster which complimented our talented side perfectly. The boys had a great year on the field, as evident by the results - with 10 wins, 1 draw and 2 narrow losses. The turning point for the boys this year was round 2, where our defensive structure clicked and opposition teams had trouble breaking our line, with the boys taking on board all the skills they learnt at training. It was pleasing to see all the players develop individually as players and as a team, and I can’t wait to see what next year brings when footy becomes competitive.

I would like to thank all the parents for supporting the team and for their help throughout the year on BBQ and canteen, and thanks to the Committee for the effort they put in throughout the year. Finally thank you to all the boys, it’s been an absolute pleasure being involved with this team and look forward to another great season next year. GO SAINTS.

34 MANAGER’S REPORT

Every team needs the support of parents. A big thank you to a great group of people who supported us on and off the field. They couldn’t do enough for us and made the season most enjoyable.

A club is only as good as its committee and I thank them for their tireless efforts again this year. Last but not least, the effort of Coach Klem and Trainer Cope was outstanding, they both made seamless transitions to their new roles. They have this group of boys developing nicely and we can look forward to playing competitively next year.

Already looking forward to next season - Go the Saints.

COACH’S REPORT

What a year the boys have had! We had an interesting start to the season, being without a coach until 2 days before the season commenced, but from there it was onwards and upwards!

The season started strong with some good wins, and our first real test came against the Colts, who ultimately finished minor premiers. The second big test came when we played the Bulls for the first time and the boys suffered their first defeat of the season: they were emotional after the loss, and really showed how passionately they all care about their footy.

But they learned from that game and came back stronger. They put together some more wins, until they met the Colts again, and suffered another loss. However they didn’t let that dissuade them, putting 50 points on the Bull’s in the weeks to come.

36 The boys continued to grow and improve and made the finals in their first year of competitive footy, a fact of which they were (and ought to be) very proud. Ultimately, they met the Colts again in the preliminary finals, and the boys played the hearts out. Their goal line defence in the first half was truly outstanding, but despite leading at half time, a few quick tries from the Colts knocked their confidence, and they ended the season just one game short of the big one at Belmore.

Overall, the improvement in all of the boys over the course of the year has been remarkable: they have always given every game their all and have worked hard at training, which is reflected in their finishing the season 3rd overall. Through various illnesses and injuries, the kids played their hearts out, and most of all, had lots of fun together.

A special thank you goes to Pete for all his help and skill with training. Thanks also to the other dads who pitched in with training the boys. Thank you to Kat for managing the team for us, and to all the parents for pitching in and helping out when needed (and for a stress free season!)

Well done as always to the St Christopher’s committee on another year, your efforts and hard work is always noticed and appreciated and allows the kids to concentrate on enjoying their footy.

PLAYER PROFILES

Xavier Aad: Xavier’s first year the club was a cracker! He has shown a lot of confidence in his game at such a young age. Our leading try and point scorer for the season, he is never one to let injuries stand in his way. Xavier has a real football brain and speed to burn! Great work Xavier!

Dylan Hodgkisson: The littlest kid on the team with the biggest heart! Dylan excelled at playing dummy half for much of the year and is another of one our speedsters. Dylan’s tackling has improved a lot this year and he is not afraid of getting in front of the bigger kids. Dylan leads by example and has a real rugby league brain for someone so young. Great season Dylan.

Tyson Loy: Tyson really came out of his shell over the course of the season, which was pleasing to see. He played some fabulous footy, especially when fired up! Tyson had some brilliant runs and worked hard in defence, and was always there for his team. Well done on an excellent season Tyson.

Joseph Mardini: Joey showed us this year he can really kick a ball! He is an excellent team player, was very strong in tackling, and had some cracking runs. Joey’s confidence has developed well over the season, and he will continue to go from strength to strength in his game. Fabulous job Joey!

Phoenix McCroarey: Phoenix was one of our strongest tacklers and runners, especially when fired up! He was fearless in defence, never afraid to put his body on the line and take the big hits. Phoenix played with his whole heart and always gave 100% every week, leaving it all on the field. You should be proud of yourself for a great season Phoenix.

James Mitchell: This was James’ first season of footy, and what a season he had! With super speed he was an amazing try scorer and also played his role at first receiver with great skill. It was wonderful to watch James come out his shell, and his skill and confidence grow as the season went on. Congratulations on a great season James, we hope to see you back next year (and no more soccer!)

Luke Petersen: Luke has speed to burn and scored some fabulous tries over the course of the season. He was great in his role as first receiver and always knew when to run the ball. Luke was a real team player, and really started to put his body on the line in defence towards the end of the season and should be commended on a wonderful season of footy- well done Luke!

Aidan Radcliffe: Aidan has had a great season of footy and his game has gone from strength to strength! Despite illness and injury, Aidan always gives his best to his team and his mates when he plays, and is a strong runner and tackler. Aidan’s confidence grew over the course of the season. We will miss you next year Aidan- well done! 37 Jibriel Salameh: One of our teams wrecking balls, Jibi’s tackling was amazing this year! He really led by example with some big storming runs, and had some brilliant offloads when the team needed them. A quiet achiever, Jibi’s strength and confidence in his game grew immeasurably over the course of the season, and he also scored some fabulous tries. Jibi, you should be proud of a wonderful season- great work!

Noah Strother: Noah has had an awesome year of footy, with his skill and confidence in all aspects of his game improving significantly over the course of the season. Always ready to step in when needed, Noah has scored some great tries and had some amazing runs: he is a wonderful team player and team mate. Great job Noah!

Kahlyle Taurima: Kahlyle is the real character of the team! His game went from strength to strength every week. The goose step he has naturally in his game is fabulous to see! He scored his first try with an impressive run away length of the field endeavour, of which he should be very proud. Well done on a great season Kahlyle!

Jireh Walker: Jireh played some of his best footy as the season went on: he is another wrecking ball, with his barnstorming running style leaving a trail of destruction on the field. Jireh always led by example, and was a wonderful captain for our team in their last game of the year. Always reliable to make meters when it matters, Jireh should be proud of a stellar year- great job Jireh!

COACH’S REPORT

What another awesome effort this footy season from the under 9-1’s team. It was a frustrating season losing four games by one try, 1 game by two points and one draw and even after the results the boys continued turning up and playing hard.

All the boys showed great character, good sportsmanship and a great attitude to training. I hope next year the boys are back for another great year of footy.

I would like to thank the Club for giving me the opportunity to coach such a great bunch of boys. The committee for their help and support during the season, they do a great job running the Club. The parents for your support, encouragement and getting the boys to such early games, we appreciate it.

39 A HUGE thanks to Stuart Higham for putting his hand up to be the trainer and for your support and knowledge in helping to coach this team. Lastly a BIG thank you to Christie Vasilevski and Shantelle Hayward who shared the team Manager role, another year and another great job well done.

Zander Vasilevski: Zander put in a lot of effort this season, showing great commitment to the team always turning up to training and playing hard every game. He made some great tackles this season and ran hard scoring a few tries. Good season Zander.

Quinn Gifford-Moore: Quinn improves every year showing great commitment to the team always playing hard and making great tackles. He played first receiver for a lot of the games and owned the position with his passes and kicking. Great season Quinn.

Cooper Hayward: Cooper had a great year, especially in defence. Working hard on technique he ended up putting some big hits on some big kids. He always showed up to training and always pushed himself. Also, hard to stop near the line he bagged a few tries in the season with one hattrick throughout the year. Good year Cooper.

Cali Moon: Cali had another awesome season. With his quick feet and footwork, he left a few players behind as he stepped around the defence. His tackling also improved tacking down some much bigger kids and was never scared to put his body on the line. Great work this year Cali.

Riley Miller: Rylie had another big year with the team. As one of the bigger boys he was always hard to stop needing a few defenders to take him down. He is also good with the ball whenever he needed to fill in at first receiver. Always training hard and never complaining he is an easy kid to coach. Awesome season Rylie.

Jarryd Mouawad: Jarryd had another great season this year being one of the most improved. With great acceleration and passing he also shared the role of dummy half. Each week getting better at reading the game and knowing when to run from and never scared of anyone. Another great year Jarrod.

Tallis Minhinnick Fanayan: Tallis had another big season with us. Every game and training he turned up and gave 100%. One of our hardest runners he was always tough for the opposition sending a few kids to the bench. He has a great character and was always good for some laughs at training. Awesome year Tallis.

Elijah Waitai-Tipene: Elijah played his first year with the team he was one of two players to come up from 2nd division, and what a great addition to the team. He adapted well to the speed of the game and being one of our bigger boys, anyone that ran straight at him got smashed. Good season Elijah.

COACH’S REPORT

I was hesitant taking up the coaching this year, but with the help from Shane White and Mick Summerland, I’m glad I did.

Thanks for all your help men, there is no way we would have been as successful as we were without your huge contribution to the team. By successful, I don’t mean winning every game and making semis, I mean being competitive and improving every week, and apart from 2 games this year, and we did just that. What makes it more special, is that we played a lot of games with no reserves, which shows this great bunch of kids never gave up.

Thanks to all the parents, friends and families that helped on canteen, BBQ, raffles, bringing the kids to training and cheering on the sidelines. One day they will let you know how much they appreciate it.

To our awesome manager Deb, a big thanks for all the running around you did for our team, going to meetings and getting us organised week in week out for game day.

Finally, the most import thank you must go to each and every child that played in our team.

41 There was no greater reward this year, then to see the kids achieve things they had never done or were a little hesitant to do, every single one of them stepped out of their comfort zone at some stage. If someone one was initially hesitant to tackle, they ended up tackling. If someone wasn’t too keen on running the ball, they ended up running the ball. If someone never scored a try before, they scored a try. If someone never kicked a goal before, they kicked a goal. So thanks to each one of you for the great reward.

At St Christopher’s, we don’t always do it easy, but we do love footy.

MANAGER’S REPORT

Well another Footy season over and what a season it was. Again, it was a pleasure to be the Manager of the U10-2s. Most of the team have been playing together for a couple of years now but they welcomed our new players Janelle, Jordan, Joseph, Nash, Phoenix, Kynan and Michael with open arms.

Firstly, on behalf of Dave, Mick, Shane and myself we would like to thank all the parents/brothers/sisters/family who volunteered in the Canteen, BBQ duties, raffles and also getting the kids to training and the games.

Dave, Mick and Shane worked tirelessly all season working on the team’s defence, attack and ball control. They also worked hard on their fitness which showed each week at games. I would like to thank Dave, Mick and Shane for their time and effort each week with the team and you guys should be congratulated on how far this team has come.

I would like to congratulate Janelle and the boys on a great effort in 2019 and hope to see you all in 2020.

PLAYER PROFILES

Michel Condoluci: Joined our team very late in the season, coming across from soccer. With his big step and strong defence, he showed rugby league is definitely the sport for him. Looking forward to seeing you next season Michael.

Janelle Fuatimau: Was causing havoc to defensive lines with her barnstorming runs early in the season until injury took her out of action for most of the year. On her return, she picked up where she left off and gave the team that extra boost to finish the season strongly. See you next year Janelle.

Charbel Khoury: Always reliable in defence, Charbel really stood up this season showing us some great leadership, guiding the team around the park and pushing himself and team mates to improve each and every week. Always a team player, Charbel worked very hard this season in defence and with the ball in hand. Well done Charbel.

Joseph Levy: New to the team this year Joseph along with his brother always had smile on his face. Joseph showed us plenty of potential this year and as his confidence grew throughout the season had some hard runs and great tackling. A valuable asset to the team, we are looking forward to watch Joseph progress further in 2020. Well done Joseph.

Jordan Levy: Also new in 2019, Jordan is the other half of the smiling brothers and would always brighten up a training session or game day with his infectious smile. Jordan worked really hard this year on all aspects of his game, pushing himself to get better every week. A great team player we are looking forward to seeing him back in 2020. Well Done Jordan

Flynn Lovett: Flynn had a great year. He was strong in defence and with his weaving runs in attack, he would cut through the opposition’s line on a lot of occasions. At the back end of the year, the weaving

42 stopped and a mini Taumalolo came out, which made him even harder to stop. Let’s try and beat your home record next year Flynn. Well done!

Ky Mckeown: Ky really took the next step and lifted his game to another level this year, really working hard on his fitness, defence and attack using his size for some brutal and barnstorming runs either scoring or leading to plenty of tries for the team. Ky also showed plenty of encouragement to his team mates. Well done Ky.

Zac Mckeown: Took his game to another level this year with some hard running and a big improvement in his defence. His hunger and determination to cross the try line, along with kicking a goal, was great to see. Great season Zac!

Nash Mclellan: New to the team in 2019, Nash led the way this season with his ability to compete in every contest, whether it be inspiring the defensive line with some bone crunching tackles, leading the kick chase or steering the team around the field Nash was always at the front urging the team to never give up and push a little harder. Well done Nash.

Noah Raish: Noah, has had an outstanding season this year, leading by example in defence cutting down some much larger opposition (especially from marker), with some text book tackling. With the ball Noah is always dangerous, not afraid to roll his sleeves up and do the hard yards or showing off his great skills when required by the team. Well done Noah.

Kai Summerland: Another player in our side to take his game to another level. He has always been hard to stop when those legs get pumping, but adding an offload to his game made him even more dangerous. With his big improvement in his defence, he is becoming an all-round footballer. Great season Kai!

Phoenix West: New to the team this year from another club, Pheonix showed how you should run on the ball, setting a great example for others to follow. He found the try line on quite a few occasions by putting himself in the right spot. He scrambled hard in defence, never giving up the chase and putting teams under pressure. Great stuff Pheonix!

Tutanekai Whare: He’s a little bulldog that just won’t give up. Toots plays with a lot of mongrel both in attack and defence. He surprised a lot of the bigger teams when they thought they could run through him but didn’t. Bouncing off defenders in attack, made him a real handful to stop. Super year Toots!

Kynan White: Another player you joined us from another team. Kynan is one of the most determined members of our team who never stopped trying. He has explosive speed and made teams pay when he got a sniff of a gap. His defence at the back end of the season was truly inspiring. Great effort Kynan!

COACH’S REPORT

It is always a pleasure to coach this great bunch of boys who consistently turn up, wanting to learn and better themselves. We hadn't been beaten in 2 years and unfortunately probably got a bit comfortable and even though it was a good game, things didn't go to plan in the grand final but that's footy. I couldn't be prouder of this group of young men, I know the boys are committed to working even harder next year, so they can hold up that premiership trophy.

A big thankyou to all the parents and staff who are always there to positively support and encourage the boys.

Once again the boys had a very successful season. They were undefeated all of the regular season and retained the minor premiers trophy for the second year running. Unfortunately when the main game of the season came around we were not up for the challenge and came away second best.

Putting that aside, nobody can take away the effort and enthusiasm that the boys put in all season long. The boys are a credit to themselves and their families for their sportsmanship, attitude and skill with which they play the game. It has been a while since this team of champions has lost and a lot of people have commented that it will further strengthen our team in the form of character. Taking nothing away

44 from the boys, I know they will return with a vengeance and play some great footy next season. Congrats to all our little champs on a great season.

A big thanks goes to Jon, Pete and Andrew for all the effort you put in through the year. Without your effort and guidance none of the boys’ enjoyment and success happens. All you do does not go unnoticed.

Thanks also goes to the Greals, Grant, Slats, Chris and the rest of the committee. Without your work we don’t have this great club and team.

Lastly thank you to all the families. I could say parents, but that does not do justice to the families which include older and younger siblings, grandparents, aunties, uncles, cousins and friends that are very much a part of this team. There is nothing better than the group of families that get together watch footy, socialise, enjoy each other’s company and help this great club. Your assistance throughout the year kept the club going which in turn flows down to the boys.

PLAYER PROFILES

Kaled Dib: A new boy to our team, Kaled’s great season the year before and effort in the trials saw him grab a spot in the team. Kaled is a menacing ball runner always running the ball hard and making opposition defenders work to bring him down. Kaled is a quiet well-mannered boy that fit in well with the team and we are looking forward to him improving in each and every game. Well done mate!

Jacob Dodd: It was a big welcome back to the team for Jakey who showed us some great skill on the wing. Jakey was often tasked with cleaning up opposition kicks that were sent through to break our line. Jake’s biggest improvement came in the way of his attitude which translated into him playing a great season and enjoying his footy. Well done mate!

Ashton MacDonald: Another new recruit to the team, Ash was a huge asset and his skill with ball fit in well with the boys. Another smiley, well-mannered boy that is a pleasure to have in the team, it was great to see his confidence grow with each game. Ashton also had the honour of joining the 100 club. Great season buddy!

Noah Mikhail: Noah again built on the great season he had last year. Time and time again Noah was immovable in defence out wide cutting down any attacking raid. Noah also ensured attacking kicks were quickly stifled and returned the ball well above his with determination. To add to his bag of tricks, Noah always kept the score board ticking over with his magic right boot. Keep it up!

Caleb Mitchell: Caleb again built his game on defence. When effort was needed he led the defensive line to put any attack away and relished taking down anyone bigger than him. A great talker when needed, Caleb ensured that his enthusiasm was second to none. Another fine season.

Tyler Munn: The little general was at it again this year. As our team Captain, Tyler led from the front in skill, attitude and energy. With ball in hand there is hard to find a better ball runner/player in the comp. It is unbelievable to see the footy head on this boys shoulders at such a young age. Can’t wait to see you in years to come! Tyler was also another member of the 100 club.

Declan O’Donovan: It was great to see Deco back to full speed in the middle of the paddock. Deco relentlessly made metres in the middle and backed that up with some of the best shoulder tackles all season. There is nothing better than seeing the mongrel come out of this gentle boy from the sideline. Love your work!

Michael Psirakis: Big Mick, the wrecking ball is a devastating runner at full speed. At his uncompromising best he enjoys leaving opposition defenders in his wake. His charges into the opposition always set up the boys for any attacking raid due to the defenders he attracts. Mick showed how much oppositions fear him when he cruised through the defence in the semi-final untouched to score.

45 Joshua Sabbagh: What pace he has! Josh again showed the opposition what he can do with his unbridled speed. Josh loved to sniff out a gap or tired defender and made oppositions pay a heavy price in the form of four points. Josh also strengthened our middle with tough defence and backed it up with skill and speed from dummy half. Another boy to watch for the future.

Afa Sua: Afa possesses a lot skills which include size, ball skill and hard running. One of the skills that he often gets overlooked for is his defence in the middle. Time and time again he would shut down hard running forwards in the middle, often halting their forward momentum. One of the best in the competition, Afa’s effort is one of the best on game day.

Silas Tohilima-Gardiner: Silas is a great kid who gives a way a lot weight to other boys. This however does not take away from the effort or skill that he possesses in the middle of the park. Silas’ fast feet are a worry to any opposition and he backs this up with rock solid defence. Another terrific season from you bro!

Jackson Vajdevski: Another smiley well mannered boy that is a pleasure to have in any team. Jacko’s left foot step at the line is extremely tough to stop and led to many a try this season. Jacko also backed it up with bruising defence on the edges. Jacko is also another of our go to kickers when we wanted to turn 4 into 6. Great stuff!

Xavius Wilson: The show and go with the boy is exceptional. X Man has a lot of skill across the park with his strong ball running, tough defence and ball skill. X constantly worried oppositions with ball in hand and loved nothing more than crushing ball runners. A quiet boy, X lead on the field with his actions and was also a member of experienced 100 club. Congrats mate!

Thanks to our wonderful supporters. You inspire us.

COACH’S REPORT

The team performed well all year week in week out but just missed out on the semis by 1 point. They had some tough opposition this year with four teams they played against with div1 experience. The boys were tested every week and showed that if they put in a good effort at training and in the game they can beat any of those teams as it showed in the last game of the season.

We had some new players join our club this year and they jelled in well with the team and I hope to see the boys back next year.

To the parents thank you for getting boys to training and the game each week and helping out on the BBQ and in the canteen on Saturdays.

Thanks to Laura for being the manger again and organising the team each week, Gary and Shannon for their help and support as trainers and for looking after the team when I was away, Thank you all.

Hope to see you all next year.

COACH’S REPORT

I started the year unsure but excited for what was to come in my first year of coaching. With half of the boys playing up a division and a few playing for the first time, they exceeded all my expectations. From day one the boys trained hard and I’d like to acknowledge the effort put in by the boys every week, it’s not easy playing with no reserves and it comes down to the hard work they put in together every training session.

It was extremely rewarding watching the boys bond and grow together as a team and I’m so proud of how far they have come not only as a team, but as individuals improving their skills and game. To be Minor Premiers and make Grand Final in our first year as a team together was an awesome feat and you should all be proud of your efforts and how you have grown.

Special thanks to Damien, Compton, my Mum and Dad, without them we couldn’t have done this. Also thanks to all the boys and parents, it was a pleasure meeting and coaching these boys and I hope to see you all next year.

Dylan Ross: Dylan gave 110% every game and training session. His defensive and offensive skills made him dangerous out of the centre. Dylan listened, got the job done and never complained. Thanks for a great season Dylan.

COACH’S REPORT

Once again it was a pleasure to coach this great team. It was a very tough year, the closest competition so far. The boys worked extremely hard throughout the season and advanced to the semi-finals but unfortunately didn’t make the preliminary final.

Again the boys acted in a professional manner, every week continuing to play in the spirit of the game. When it got tough they held their heads high, not letting themselves or their team down. I’m sure that all the parents are as proud of these young men as we are.

A big thank you to Jon Wilson, Andrew Mikhail, Jason Penman and Jason Thompson for all your hard work and dedication throughout the season. Thank you also to the parents who helped out at home games in the canteen and on the BBQ.

We hope to see you all again in 2020.

MANAGER’S REPORT

Well another season has quickly come and gone. Managing the team this year was a pleasure with great kids and great parents.

51 I would like to thank the club committee for their support and dedication to the club and providing the kids with a game of football every week, without them a season of footy doesn’t happen.

To the same few mums and dads that helped on BBQ and canteen duties I’d like to say a big thank you. It’s always the same few people that can be relied on which in a side of our size at times has been disappointing.

Paul Morse who helped me out and accompanied me at both the Diggers and Revesby Pub Raffles – thank you very much for your support.

To our coaching staff Dave, Jon, Andrew and Jason T, thank you for giving your time to the boys. I’m sure they appreciated it.

Lastly to the boys, thank you for being such an easy bunch of kids to look after. Being your manager this year was a pleasure and I hope this continues for years to come.

Enjoy the off season and looking forward to another season next year playing Rugby League Football the greatest game of all.

PLAYER PROFILES

Itula Seve: Itula just keeps getting better, he keeps the boys motivated and passionate. His ability to run lines, find gaps while having 3 or 4 defenders hanging off him is amazing. The ability to offload in these situations proved to be one of our strengths, continually sending one of his team mates over for a try. We are so proud of your achievements this year and the young man you’ve become.

Lucas Pengue: What a season! The commitment you gave this year was amazing. Your skill and ability to do what you do, week in week out is a credit to you. You have matured into a great player with vision. In attack you always organise the boys, setting them up for the next play. In defence there were many try saving moments. One of our best, congratulations on a great season.

Issac Thompson: A newcomer to the Saints this year! A tough and passionate player, very strong in attack and defence; making a great addition to our team. Your power and strength have served us well this year, looking forward to seeing what you’re capable of next season. Well done on a great season.

Jaziyah Taiatu: Another newcomer to the team. Playing up in the 12’s as an 11 year old is not an easy thing to achieve. Your defence and attack all year was outstanding, with the ability to also kick goals. A pleasure to coach, congratulations on a great season.

Zeedan Wilson: Well done Zeedan another great year. You consistently put your body on the line, showing great strength and ability. The vision you have in attack is amazing, your defence this year has been incredible considering the size of your opponents. Looking forward to watching you again in 2020!

Patrick Forrester: Our leader! Someone all the boys look up to and respect. Each year you organise your team in such a professional manner, whether at training or game day. Your ability to continue your leadership on the field is truly something to be proud of. You lead by example and are a pleasure to coach.

Your ability to be put in any position and play your hardest is a credit to you. A great team player, well done on another great year!

Darnell Levy: Another new recruit to our side, Darnell fit in nicely to our strong forward line. Would say very little but knew what was expected of him and he got the job done! Well done.

MANAGER’S REPORT

You did it boys, coming from 4th position to take home the Premiers Trophy!!! What an achievement.

We started the season with a few new players in our side. We were a mixed bag of players, returning players from last season, some who have played up a grade last season to playing in their correct age group and some new faces, but it was evident from the start that this was a strong side.

The first couple of games turned out to be proof of the material that these boys are made of. The boys showed each team what they can do and that they were to be taken seriously. Throughout the season what these boys managed pull off is a testament to never giving up no matter the odds, the pain, the crap and fatigue that you play till that whistle blows to say it’s over! There were a few games where we only just lost the game but we pulled together as a team and stood strong.

As always, out of sheer determination and the will to win, the drive was always there till the end (And again some of Baz’s Always Inspirationally stern halftime “Chats” helped as well). We did get unlucky on a few games, but that made boys all the wiser and that the trophy wasn’t going to get handed to us.

Having to play some of the “tougher teams from out Campbelltown way” showed everyone that they meant business, a couple of “out there calls from the refs” only made the team stronger and fight harder, but you wouldn’t have known it as they held their heads up high.

54 Coming into the semi’s was all about letting the boys know that it’s up to them if they wanted that Trophy, Baz, Sean and Lumpy had done a fantastic job throughout the year in preparing the boys for what was to come and the cool approach through the Semi’s and just running them through the motions in training was what they needed and it worked.

Coming up against our arch enemy in the Semi Final on their home turf again was tough, having lost to them the games prior, we needed to show them who wanted it more, We could say that the opposition just didn’t turn up but that wasn’t the case, they fought hard, they tackled hard but we wanted it more than they did, beating them 14-4.

We then came face to face with Eagle Vale St Andrews in the Preliminary Final. This was make or break. So what did we do, we played like we have never played before, when that final buzzer sounded we won 26-10. Grand final here we come…..

Then there it was the Grand Final and guess what they did it!

What can I say besides GRAND FINAL WINNERS!!!

Each of those boys went into that game with their backs straight and their heads held high, I have never been prouder of those boys than at that moment. Coming into that Grand Final as underdogs and walking out as Premiers (in golden point mind you) is an outstanding achievement, one that every single one of those boys should be proud of because I am pretty sure that Baz, Sean, Lumpy and myself are. What an effort by every single one of those boys in a Grand Final game that was to rival that of any first grand NRL final

The boys need to wear the Premiers Title Proud (Just like Baz wearing his medal, which I believe he hasn’t taken off). Be proud of the efforts and determination each of you put in each game. Not all the boys had the strength and build each game but each of the boys had their heart on their sleeves and that’s what matters most. Well, all I can say is that each of those boys make up one hell of a team.

All of this could not have been possible without the best coach and trainers a team could have, To Sean and Lumpy, thank you for all your hard work, keeping these boys in line. I would like to take this chance to make a special mention to our outstanding coach Baz, for the ongoing time and effort that has been put in over the years, fast forward to now, a lot of boys had come and gone but still a core group had stayed with Baz feeding off his "Vast" footy knowledge and eventually paving the way to a grand finial win! In my eyes, you keep wearing that medal with pride Baz you deserve it for all the monumental dedication you have shown over the years! This win belongs to you just as much as the boys. We couldn’t do it without you.

To my partner Kell for stepping up as manager when I “had to go to work” on game days and manager meetings, thanks dear! To those parents who got in and helped out with the canteen and BBQ duties without being asked, I really appreciate it. To the committee, this wouldn’t be possible without you and we thank you for everything you do each week and behind the scenes.

PLAYER PROFILES

Patrick Delinicolis: Patrick had a consistent year this year, making good tackles as required, Ole Velco was back at it, with outstanding defense, he just wouldn’t let go. When Patrick got involved, he made it known, great runs and great meters. Well done Patrick.

Mohammed Elesh: Mohy’s presence was always felt out on the field, setting up the right boys for the hit- up, and a general menace to the opposition. Mohy’s speed and agility helped make a great impact while also back at Fullback, getting in there to shut down those potential tries.

Abdul Elcheikh: Abdul came down a grade to play in his ag group but being one of the smallest players in the team means nothing to this kid. He continued to run the field, putting his body on the line as he 55 tackled the biggest kids. Once he gets the ball, he’s a hard kid to catch, Abdul had a great year and proved himself to the team and to the coaching staff.

Marcus Khoury: An outstanding year from Marcus, Marcus would make the tackles that needed to be made, he would often set up some good tries, Marcus played a couple of different positions when asked of him. Marcus is a different kid from last year, Marcus’ attitude toward footy was outstanding, he loved being involved.

Logan Lake: what another great year Logan had, becoming one of our best defensive players there’s not much that gets past him, always standing his ground ready to take on the big boy’s head on. But it’s not all defense for this kid, Logan’s game is one to watch these days, time after time opposition were thrown off which lead to some truly outstanding break away runs, even a few tries at the oppositions line, keep up the great effort bud.

Isaiah Lee: I remember saying in last year’s report that he has potential and boy did he show it this year, truly showing is capable of anything as he gets better each season, coming in as first Dummy Half for each game he set the standard in which we played and really understanding his role and what was expected of him, carving the opposition up in their own end from DH runs.

Daniel Louka: Daniel had a great year, quietly *working hard in all parts of the game. Doing a fantastic job in defense and offence as he worked hard as the brains in the halfs combo we had, constantly taking opponents head-on and slowing their charge. In attack he ran hard, fast and straight up the center takin up some big hit ups.

Dante Macri: Dante is the raging bull. Give him the ball and there is a good chance he will score or at least make outstanding ground coverage. Dante tackled hard. Great season mate!

Joshua Mansour: starting off the season a bit unsure of his role, but once Baz gave him the directions and confidence, Josh went to fulfil his role right in the guts of it all, by the end of the season josh was leading the charge in defense get right up in the opposition’s faces. What a great little kid this one is, always attentive and polite he was a very welcome addition to the team.

Michael Mansour: Michael was new to the team, Very quiet to start with but by the end of the season, he was in amongst those hit ups and making runs. Unlucky to not score a try but he set up some beauties for his team mates. Michael was put out on the wing, when it was hit turn, he would be ready with a smile on his face. Next season let’s put those hands to use.

Lucas McAndrew: Lucas being one of the smallest in the team found this season extremely hard given his size and those of his opposition so all in all, Lucas had a bit of a quiet season. Making the occasional run and tackle. Lucas was placed on the wing, a position that he wasn’t comfortable in until the middle of the season. On the rare occasion he found himself in the centers, where he would find himself in the middle of it all, a place that he seemed to enjoy. Between now and next season more focus on his mental strength (and maybe some stronger roids to beef him up) as he (and we) know that he has the potential to be a great little winger.

Nader Minhinnick-Fanayan: Ekara was one of the top players this competition and asserted himself in every game. His fearless defense is amazing to watch. At full pace, Ekara was very hard to tackle and he scored some good breakaway tries for the team. At full ace, he would throw himself into whatever situations arose. Well done Ekara.

Jayden Morabe-Russell: Jayden came down a grade to play in the correct age group. Well from game one did he made an impression. He could do everything Baz asked him to. Jayden proved himself a dangerous attacker and regularly taking quick runs from the play the ball to get us over the line. A very valuable part of our team.

56 Ellias Papadopoulos: Ellias was an absolute blast to watch, there never was anyone too big for him to take on, whether it be taking them down in tackles or running those must watch hit-ups. If Ellias decided if you were worthy of his hit list, they knew it without a doubt.

Lincoln Parmeter: When it came to attack, he would always run hard. When it came to defense, he would always tackle hard. Lincoln is the sort of player who understands when a big play is required and often came up with the goods, Lincoln is a fast, strong and determine player. One of our best defenders.

Jessie Pinheiro: Jesse was another welcomed team member, he had a slow start to the season learning the different positions and seeing what fit, He started to shine in the position of forward towards the end of the season showing that he could get up and wrestle with the big boys, let’s see what 2020 has to offer.

Oscar Sullivan: Oscar, leading the charge throughout the year as the captain of the team and making the last part of the holy trinity that was the back bone of team, Oscar was always in the middle of it, always charging through the opposition’s defense with such a passion and determination (that is hard to put into words) to get those points up on that board. It was without question Oscars on field direction and never give up attitude was our driving force that kept the boys heads up high in the toughest of games that gave way to the great year we had. Outstanding effort.

Gianni Tohia: Gianni had a consistent season this year, Gianni always played his part in stopping those runs and making ground himself. Although G didn’t score many tries this season you can sure bet that he had his hand in the passes leading up to it. G just kept improving each game.

Lazarus Vakacoa: Laz came to his full potential in the Grand Final, making intercepts, making those essential catches and making strong runs… where was it all season, I couldn’t have been prouder he made it to the Grand final and we weren’t even at Roberts Park… Can’t wait for next season and see what he can do.

COACH’S REPORT

Season 2019 turned out to be a memorable one for many reasons, from old players leaving for greener pastures, new players joining the team from different clubs and districts, mid-season transfers, some serious injuries and illnesses ruling players out for weeks on end and other sports clashing with games and training times. Despite all of the above the boys stayed on focus as best we could and stuck together as a team with a never give up attitude and took on everything thrown their way. The most memorable was that we took out the premiership 18-14 against our arch enemy Greenacre Tigers. PREMIERS 2019 certainly has a nice ring to it and the boys certainly deserve all the accolades that came their way.

The season started in the usual fashion for all the boys going through pre-season training and trials and being graded into their teams for the year ahead. Once the teams had been sorted we went about the business of then coming together as a team and fitting everyone in to positions and working on our team as a whole. We had a squad of 20 young men all willing to go out and give it a big crack this year.

During the year we had plenty of success with some very convincing wins against most teams, some close wins against others where we didn’t play to our full potential and some narrow losses against Tigers who we just couldn’t seem to defeat. The scores against them had us losing by a converted try or less in three of our competition games and a 4 all draw in another. Having these losses is what I feel really tested the boys as a team and worked in our favour when it mattered at the seasons end.

This year also saw the boys take the field playing full international rules and no longer having the need for pink and yellow vested players. We could now fully transition in to what I call proper footy and start playing a much more structured game plan. We also now had to deal with a limited interchange of 10 changes only in a game. A sometimes logistical nightmare for a coach when you have 7 reserves on the bench all wanting to get as much game time as they could get. For us as a team though we only ever had 58 7 boys on bench on one occasion due to injuries and other commitments. At the start of the year it is always debated as a do we, or don’t we situation as to taking a full squad of 20 players in a team. I’m afraid the answer is and always should be YES. It’s inevitable as the boys get older, bigger and more physical that there will be injuries. As was in our case this season.

As a team we worked hard on developing each of the boys’ physical fitness and skill levels every week. From the seasons start compared to the end, you could definitely see the difference. We also implemented a more modern game plan in line with what the boys will learn as they go through the next few years in development squads and learn new structures. The next few years for the boys will really test them individually, each one will mature at different times, get bigger and stronger and definitely a lot faster.

Our year in a nut shell was extremely successful over all. Our record has us at 1 win on forfeit, 1 washout, 1 Draw, 3 losses and 12 wins. None better than our GF win. A pretty good result for us as a team.

I would like to thank the many people that assisted us during the year. Firstly to the parents, you guys get the boys to training and games each week. Without your commitment to your sons they wouldn’t be able to play this great sport. For the help on the canteen and BBQ each week, I know it can be a drag but the money raised through the canteen go back to the kids of the club at seasons end.

A big thanks to Mechelle our manager who makes sure we are ready to take the field each week with signing on and game day prep. From taking stats for the year book and attending club meetings and communicating info back to us all. A big thanks to Joe Saukuru who came down with 8 weeks to go and introduced a new structure to the boys’ game plan. His knowledge of the game at the next level is first class.

A huge thanks to both Norm and Bobby for your assistance all year with the boys as our trainers. From running the water on game days to coaching when I wasn’t there due to work and other commitments, running training sessions, making me see the funny side of things when I’d lose my shit. The work you guys put in certainly made our team what it was. I value both your friendships very much.

Lastly to the boys, you guys did it. 2 nights a week training, games on the weekend, fitting that in with school sports, school work and many of you playing dual sports is a credit to you all. It wasn’t always easy but you never stopped giving your all. Well done boys you can be very proud to call yourselves U13s GOLD PREMIERS 2019.

PLAYER PROFILES

Ayman Maarbani: Joined the team this year from Bankstown Sports and fitted in well with the boys. Played mostly full back and made it his own. Not afraid to put his body into to the contest and always gave his best. Will develop further as he grows with the team.

Kian Todd-Bonselaar: A great year from Kian. Mr versatile played predominately wing but will play wherever he is asked. He’s a tough kid with a great attitude and a willingness to listen and learn. One of our team veterans who lust loves to play footy.

Liam Walsh: Another good year of footy for Liam playing in the hookers positions. Small in size but big in heart he was always in the thick of the action. Missed quite a few games at the start of the year to a hand injury and other sports but came back when it counted.

Saint Fuatimau: Joined the team this year and fitted straight in with the boys. Can play many positions on the field and did a great job wherever he was required. Probably one of the fittest kids in the team. Another player who will develop as he grows with the team.

59 Joshua Dunn: Another of the team’s veterans who continues to develop as a player. Played predominately on the wing and always gave his best. If I gave him a job to do I knew he would do it. Again one of our fittest boys who would give maximum effort at training.

Mitchel Woods: Joined the team from Penshurst RSL and was a welcome addition to the team. Has a tonne of ability and can play in many positions on the field. Was probably the best Five Eighth in the competition and had teams baffled on many occasions.

Jack Hanratty: One of the teams longest serving members. Again played in the half back position and directed the team well across the park. Another that is small in size who battles on each week against the bigger boys. Bring on that growth spurt. Whenever that comes along.

Pfieffer Feagaiga: One of the biggest players in our team who joined us from this year. A hard running forward with good footwork at the line often saw him make plenty of meters for the team. Virtually unstoppable up close to the line and scored some good tries.

Mark Bishara: Again Mark had a great year of footy with the team. Has really developed into a nice hooker with good service to his forwards and outside backs. Worked hard at training all year and it was evident with him often playing full games without a rest.

Livai Saukuru: Another one of our big men in the team who worked hard for his team all year. Always made plenty of meters and had the team going forward in every game. A strong defender who rattled the opposition forwards on a regular basis.

Takerei Barden-Te Amohanga: Tux again proved himself as one of the most dominant players in the competition. Started the year in the forwards but as a team we needed him to fill a hole in the centres where he continued to shine. A great year all round from him.

Mitchell Rowles: Mitch is another player who can play in many different positions on the field and did so when needed. By seasons end he had made the back row his position and did a fantastic job. Mitch was equally solid in both attack and defence. Well done.

Aledin Hrvat: Joined the team from Wentworthville and instantly found a home for himself. A great attacking centre with good footwork and skills who scored a swag of tries. At the end of the year he was probably the form centre of the competition.

Shemaiah Tufuga: Again another new player joining us from East Campbelltown. A real quiet achiever with a great attitude. Played anywhere we asked him too but made his best impact as a Back rower as the year progressed. One to watch as he develops further.

Diazhye Tipene: Another solid year from Big D who continues to grow as a player. Has the ability to play in a few positions but prefers the back row and Lock. Had a few set-backs with injuries but came back even stronger at season end. Man of the match in the GF.

Isaia Elisara: Another powerful year from Samoa who has continued to grow as a player. Plays in the forwards and is one of the most powerful runners of the football in this competition. A big hitter who belted plenty of opposition forwards this year.

Jayden Mallia: Jayden again played in the forwards this year and had an impact in every game he played. At full pace he is very hard to handle and has a nicely timed off load. Suffered and injury mid-season but made it back for the end of the year.

Tukia Taufa: Joined the team from and fitted in well with the boys. Played centre, wing and in the forwards and did a great job. Tukia has good skills and is a very unselfish player who always looked for his supports when he made a break.

TEAM REPORT

And just like that another footy year passes us by and we have enjoyed every single moment of it. It was a great pleasure to stand beside such respectful, fine young men who played their hearts out each game with dignity and strength. Tammy had it wrapped up like a true natural on game days while Tracy got all the action shots from front row, capturing fantastic memories.

To all our parents, a massive thank you for all your support throughout the season as always. The constant cheer from the sideline always makes for a stressful but electric match - win or lose. Getting the boys to training nights and game days on time shows commitment and support to the game that doesn’t go unnoticed!

Finally to our coach Sam, trainer Paul and Steve for all your efforts in turning the boys into strong, confident footy players. Your time and dedication to our boys both on and off the field has helped to instil determination, resilience and respect that shone through to the opposition teams as they commented on our positive attitudes. It’s not an easy task at times to keep 14-year-old boys on track and focussed, but you three did an exceptional job. Thank you.

Enjoy the off season, and let’s come back and give it with everything we got, but let’s double it.

COACH’S REPORT

What a fantastic year! Early on this season, I recall standing back with Anthony and Chris counting the number of players we had to form our second 14s team. Although we were low in numbers, I was quite confident we were going to get a team together. Credit goes to Anthony, Chris and our great club as we ended up with 20 players for the season and still registering players after our trials.

Our team was formed by a couple of what I call our old boys, a few from Anthony’s team and a couple of newbies to our club and new to the game. A great mix of boys who learnt how to get along and respect each other fast creating another great footy family. 61 After the first few tough losses in the early rounds I was confident we were going to give these other teams a good run for their money- we just needed more time to gel as a team. Unfortunately, early on we had a few devastating injuries to Nouredeen and Dean that ended their season but looking forward to seeing them back next year.

As the season continued, the boys started to gel together as a team and worked hard on structure and playing a good brand of footy which was very exciting to watch. The boys were disciplined on and off the field with opposition teams, coaches and ground officials amazed at how well the boys conducted themselves- well done boys! It was always good clean footy with our boys always punching above their weight.

Thoughout this season I saw the boys transform into fine young men. As a coach I ask for everyone to give it their best shot and enjoy the season and enjoy the game they love to play and that’s what they did. Going into the finals there was a bit of controversy having our minor-premiership taken away from us but to the boys credit they never gave up and advanced to preliminary finals.

As hard as it is to dedicate the time involved to coaching, it was all worth it with a very respectful team and it was a pleasure to be involved and to watch these young men develop and grow. Thank you, Paul, Steve, Chris, Tammy and Tracey, for all your support throughout the season, it wouldn’t be a team without you guys. Also, thank you to our great club and sponsors for all your support throughout the season.

PLAYER PROFILES

Dean Armstrong: It was a very short season but great while it lasted- great skills for years to come. Dean showed some abilities in the few games he played before he was injured. I am sure season 2020 will be a better one with more time on the field. See you next year!

Nouredeen Basha: Nouredeen showed some great skills in the first five rounds until he suffered a leg injury. He was always ready to do his best with a great attitude. Looking forward to a bounce back next season. See you next year, Nord!

Hussein Chami: Huss had a transformation in the off-season from a prop to the halves. He worked very hard throughout the season on set structure plays and started to get the balance right on his running game. A very unselfish player making sure all the boys got a run, always putting heart on the line and leading by example. A very good team leader. Great year, Huss!

Matthew Cutrupi: Matthew went into the season whole-hearted. Stepping up from previous years, really appreciating the game he loves to play. His work ethic at training was great, always worked hard on his game with no complaints. Matthew had a good understanding on his position in the team and continued to progress week in week out. Another great season from our longest serving player. Well done, Matt!

Cooper Jones: Passionate, hardworking and a will to learn. Three ingredients of a great footy player. For years I have coached against Cooper and this year he landed in our team. His position in the middle of the field was hard to fill as we needed a player to mix it up with the big boys. Cooper’s defence was exceptional, he was always willing to put his body on the line. During the early rounds, Cooper was overworking himself in both attack and defence. Then throughout the season he got the balance right making every tackle count in defence and every attacking run with purpose. A very consistent player week in week out. Well-deserved Best and Fairest!

Cooper Hanney: Cooper came into 2019 footy season with a new lease of life after a tough season the previous year. I had a talk to all the boys about the importance of training all year around. To his credit, Cooper worked hard on his game throughout the off-season and through the season, which showed on the field. Always putting his hand up to do the tough work and showed resilience for his position. Most importantly, he played every game with that great smile on his face. Great effort, Coop! 62 Walid Hassan: It was Wally’s first year at our Club and early in the season he had to work very hard to adjust to the Saint’s ways. To Wally’s credit, he was persistent at training and to our team’s structure. Throughout the season Wally progressed to be a valuable player giving it his all and really fitting in our team. Great effort, Wally!

Toto’a Lynch: Toto’a’s position asked him to do the hard yards in the middle. He always put his hand up and never backed away from the challenge. With more training under his belt I have no doubt Toto’a can go the next level. Great season, T!

Xavier Zanzoul: The bounce back season. Xavier came into 2019 half-hearted not knowing where he was at with a lack of commitment-it was that time for tough love. To Xavier’s credit, he took it on the chin and took on everything that was said. Then the 100% commitment came out! Being involved with Xavier for the last 5 years I have seen a great turnaround. His commitment towards his team was outstanding and he played his best footy ever, putting his body on the line. His defence and structural play were outstanding and as a coach I couldn’t be prouder or ask for more. Keep it up X!

Ryan Klem: This year Ryan had a positional change from half-back to dummy-half. Ryan’s job was to make this position his own. He worked hard throughout the year progressing to get better and better every game. Ryan read the game much better learning to do his runs at the right moments and defending well in the middle. He was also a great asset with his goal kicking abilities winning us a few tight games throughout the season. Great year, Rhino!

Jack Zanbaka: Jack’s contribution on and off the field was sensational. He played a couple of games early in the season at dummy half but found his best position at centre. Playing there throughout the season making that position his. In both attack and defence Jack held his own. His ability to read opposition attack was exceptional shutting down everything that came his way. Jack also showed some great speed taking the dummy half runs getting us off the line. Great season, Jack a pleasure to coach!

Afoa Tutagalevao: Junior’s contribution to the team was outstanding giving us the great impact off the bench. His ability to take big hit-ups got us out of our end and his tackling was also a great asset to our team. As the season went on Junior progressed into a great rugby league player. Well done, Junior!

Marcus Sahyoun: Who would have thought I would be coaching young Marcus. Although I have been around our club for the last 7 years, I never had a chance to really meet Marcus one on one. Like a true, fine young gentleman he came aboard with 100% commitment towards his new teammates and towards me as his coach. His leadership role and discipline as a senior player was a valuable asset to our team, helping me to keep the boys in line and putting the right mindset in what our team stands for. Marcus trained hard and played hard. His great attitude showed on and off the field. He was a workhorse willing to put it on the line week in week out. A pleasure to coach! Well done, Marcus!

Alazae Fuatimau: This was Alazae’s first year at our great club. He fitted into our team like he had been here for years. Alazae demonstrated a great attitude towards the coaching staff and always presented that great smile to go along with it. He always asked questions to better his game, week in and week out. Alazae progressed to be such a great playing sometimes underestimating himself with the size and power he had and raised some eyebrows with his capabilities. He always stayed back with his teammates working on set plays showing good commitment towards his game. Excellent season, Alazae- keep smiling!

Thomas Forrester: Who said league plays weren’t the brightest of people? After the first couple of rounds I challenged the boys to do some extra homework on their game. Little did I know I was going to get 4 pages on set structure plays from young Thomas. Mind you if I were to mark his work it was going to be an A+. Tommy worked hard throughout the season on our structure and also stayed back with halfs partners to work on his game. Our team played a good brand of footy thanks to Tommy’s hard work making sure everyone got a good run. His understanding of the game was outstanding and a big part of our success as a team. A very tough position that was played very well. Excellent season, Thomas!

63 Savali Taito Muese Tanu: Savali’s input in our team was very valuable, with highlights on the way he defended throughout the season. Savali was challenged to make his position through some key points. The position required someone at the back to consistently count numbers and direct his teammates. His communication skills on the field were excellent and for those who did get through us had something coming with solid defence coming their way. Savali’s attack went up a notch as well as injecting himself in the attacking line at the right time. He always brings around a great hardworking team atmosphere with a cheeky smile at all times. Great season, Savali!

Andre Levy: This was Andre’s first year with our Club. Playing up a year, Andre didn’t shy away and was up the challenge. His defence was exceptional and his scooting out of dummy half was just as good. Andre played his part well and was a great part of our team. Awesome season, Andre!

Haitham Meskari: This was Haitham’s first year playing club footy. He had to learn the basic fundamentals of the game. Haitham continued throughout the year to progress and develop his game. He showed some good signs of the player he is going to be, both in defence and attack. Haitham done well playing with a lot of heart and foremost enjoying his first season of club footy. Great season -looking forward to next year, H!

Nicolas Malakos: Nicholas came across late in the season from Sporties. He was a great pick up and added that exceptional speed in our back line. Nicholas had little time to adjust to team structure but never stopped trying showing good signs with great runs. With a pre-season under his belt and more Saint’s style of training I have no doubt Nicholas is going to be a great asset to our club. Welcome aboard once again and looking forward to next season. Well done, Nick!

COACH’S REPORT

This year was always going to be a big challenge as a coach. With such a talented playing group, the challenge was to keep this group developing and learning. The task was made easier by the team's ambition and will to succeed on an individual and team level.

The playing group approached every training session with professionalism and intensity which I would like to applaud. On the field the boys not only executed well but played an excellent brand of football which was exciting to watch and very skilful. Thank you boys for keeping us entertained with your brand of ‘razzle dazzle’ football.

However what was more impressive than the razzle dazzle was the tough defence which was absolutely brutal at times, it was very impressive for such a small side. Essentially the side's success was built on uncompromising defence.

It was a very testing season as a team with so many forfeits there were a lot of empty weeks. But the boys keep their eyes on the prize never losing focus on the goal that they set at the beginning of the year. Unfortunately these forfeits cost the boys the minor premiership on ‘for and against’.

After the boys lost a heartbreaking major semi-final where they were by far the most dominant team and had a few refereeing decisions go against them they could have easily lost their focus. However this made them more resilient and determined, saving the best for the last game of the year. This epitomizes the character of this team and young men.

I have deliberately avoided mentioning individual names because this season was truly a team effort. It

65 was beautiful to watch every cog play its role in the machine - every player knew their role and executed it.

To say I am very proud of each of these young men is an understatement. It has been an absolute privilege and pleasure to watch these young men develop into fine footballers. However the greatest joy has been watching them grow into fine human beings.

Apart from winning the grand final for me the most pleasing thing this season was all our kids being acknowledged in development sides. This highlights the lofty standards these young men set for themselves.

Finally a big thank you to Sal, Charlie, Maria and Chris without you guys this team does not work, your commitment is the reason the kids have an environment they can excel in.

The aim – ‘Back to Back’ 2020!

Corey Ackers: Absolute carnage when running at defences and equally devastating in defence- the future is bright

Daniel Christodoulou: maturity beyond his years, great learner. Hard to tackle and has a super quick play the ball.

Charnze Enoka: The Magician led his team around the park with great maturity. Game management skills going to another level but what really impressed was his ball playing ability.

Nicholas Ferreira: Big bang small package, fearless player looking forward to seeing more.

Ahmad Ali Hamam: Graceful mover with the football in hand, has come on in leaps and bounds.

Calvin Levy: Super athlete played with injury all year but didn't stop him coming up with the big plays when it was needed.

Quade Leo: Season cut tragically short just as he was finding his mojo, big man with halfback skills

Sione Lolohea: Absolute excitement machine, explosive runner that terrified the opposition. Where the Beast goes the pack follows, an inspirational player.

Christian Lopez: foxy player and great competitor always looking to improve his game- keep going

Massimo Mari: Lethal weapon he terrified opposition packs on his own with his tough and relentless defence. Absolutely tireless around the middle.

Chris Morris: Tough and very clever player, in my opinion best defensive centre in the comp.

66 Bailey Myers: The unsung hero, made more tackles this year than he has had breakfasts in his life. His work around the Middle allowed his teammates the space they needed to shine.

Archie Riley: Great mid-season recruit providing extra grunt and toughness. Really committed to improving his game.

Fanafou Seve: Like all top props he did the tough stuff early around the middle, but still possesses all the silky skills. On his day the hardest hitter in the comp.

Hayden Swibel: Great utility but his dummy half play provided the zip we needed to maintain momentum. His resilience was rewarded with rep selection.

COACH’S REPORT

Evaluating this season, I have to reflect back on our first training sessions. A couple of weeks out from our trials, we only had 4 girls turn up due to the majority of our girls from 2018 moving up to the 18s. I wasn’t sure we would even field a team for our first 3-way trial but we managed to get a squad on the park and we (players, parents and coaching staff) came away from our first trial very excited because of how well the girls played. Through word of mouth and social media (with girls news travels fast), we started to attract more players. Our second trial game was an exhibition match at Belmore Stadium and we blew the opposition off the park, I knew from that moment we had a top 4 team and that would be our goal for this year especially with a new squad is to make semis.

The challenge for coaching staff this year was to get the different skill sets on the same page, we had some first timers playing rugby league, a handful of under 14s playing up and half the squad in their second year of playing league. Knowing the top 2 teams this year retained most of their squad from last year, we had to get the girls in shape fast before season opening game and they were pushed at training and for us to compete against these clubs, fitness again had to be our foundation for success. We had to peel everything back especially for those players who were doing school footy and union and focus on doing the basic well at 100% and keep everything simple, coach to the level of what you have, especially with nine a side footy it is always a numbers game when you draw in the defence. 68 Now that this season has ended, I can only say this team has surpassed all my expectations, for them to finish second on the ladder in normal season and to make the GF second year running, I could not ask for more. The semi-final against Arncliffe Scots will stay with me for a while. The opposition were celebrating the win before the siren, I was under the posts running the water when 1 or 2 of our girls were tearing up, we were 3 tries down with 6 minutes to go and our core group of girls still had the fight in their eyes. Arncliffe players were hugging each other and laughing at our girls, I could see complacency in their coach and trainers who were also celebrating and high fiving each other as the clock was winding down, so to see their faces when we scored 3 quick tries to draw the game on the bell and us win in extra time was priceless.

It has taken me a couple of weeks to get over our GF not because of the loss but how these girls stayed in the fight against Collies, I can see why they did not want to move the game from Campbelltown to Belmore, we had chances to win the game but that’s ‘footy’. We put in an enormous amount of effort to make the GF and I am very proud at how we performed.

To have 10 girls be selected for the Bulldogs Lisa Fiaola team and from that tournament, Leilani and Anneka to be making NSW Development as well as 4 players as shadows is a great achievement for our squad, the credit goes to them for putting in the work and staying disciplined. I know the majority of the team have been selected for Tarsha Gale train on for Bulldogs I can see that St Christopher’s Girls Rugby League have set the bench mark for this district, they have represented the club and the area with distinction, so I congratulate them on how they carry themselves. I thank the girls and their parents especially on those cold and raining nights when we still trained I thank them for their commitment.

I also have to acknowledge those who have put in their time and effort into the girls, Sinead (Ja-neah) second year running she has put her hand up and has become the person the 16s and 18s girls have looked up to and confide in, again success can only happen when you surround yourself with people who have the best interest for the team and club so Thank You for your support. I have always been super keen on getting dads involved especially those who have played league before, so to get Andrew Wilson to come on board to assist with coaching, his experience and knowledge of the game was a huge bonus for our team. Also Henry, who would help out training, I still shake my head when he is running around in thongs especially those cold nights he is in a sleeveless shirt and shorts sometimes running around in bare feet lol. Another big thank you to Killer (Ross) for strapping the team on games days, your support is truly appreciated, Mark coming in to help out on game day running messages and last but not least our 2 Manager’s, Donna and Mette who were also managing other teams, we could not have done it without you. P.S a special mention to the parents from last year squad who would always come and support us much luv.

Thanks again to John and Grant for giving me the opportunity to coach the girls the support from the Club and sponsor’s is why we get the most out of our team.

COACH’S REPORT

Some off season musical chairs saw the music stop at St Christopher’s resulting in an influx of U17s, most new, some returning from our U15s of 2017 – in any case, we started the season in U17 Silver with 21 players on the books - healthy.

Results came easy (even though a couple of sides were probably tanking to avoid coming under the scrutiny of the NSWRL re-graders) and it was clear we were much better than the opposition. To the boys’ credit, they wanted to be tested and voted to go to Gold (1st Division). This was the right call but of course the games got much harder. To cut a long story short, we just missed out on the semis, which was a real shame as we picked up a couple of mid-season signings (Compton and Jonathan) who both bolstered our abilities.

The boys trained hard all season and numbers at training were good. 2 games stick in my mind as the difference between us being in Gold semis and us being also rans. Round 7 against DLS where it seemed the boys were ‘in awe’ of just 13 players and let them run riot; and Round 10 against St Johns where we went in just behind at half time, but constant dumb mistakes in the 2nd half eliminated any chance of winning. A ‘wash out’ in a must win game didn’t help either. However, overall a good season and the boys are keen to give it another crack in the U18s of 2020.

PLAYER PROFILES

Giavanni Abel: This Cook Island weapon added punch to our left edge. Despite being a year young, G’s energy, skill and attitude towards training locked him in a starting role all year.

70 Jonathan Afeaki: Jona was a late inclusion to our team coming from New Zealand. A very physical player, Jona played at a high tempo becoming a handful for opposing players.

Henare Anderson: Strong and fast, Henry covered well for us across a number of positions. Henry has potential to be lethal if he plays with confidence and backs himself.

Nathan Bishara: Gun Hooker, Bishy utilised our strengths, played eyes up footy and provided spark through the middle. His effort and attitude back up his ability, not to mention his solid defence.

Zachary Butler: A quiet achiever, Zac was never shy to get his hands dirty. Whether it was a tough carry, or multiple tackles in a set, Mr Reliable went about his work never letting anyone down.

Hamze El Masri: Co Captain Hamze brought raw aggression to the right side. His competitive nature and inspiring charges proved too strong for all opposition to handle.

Toafa Faanoi: Joe started with us as another year young player. Joe’s happy vibes were contagious. We missed Joe towards the end of the season after he did a knee at school footy.

Vincent Faasii: Full of energy, impact player Vincent terrorised other teams. Always good for a big hit, Vincent was a solid middle forward. Unfortunately injury held him back.

Faleatua Faleatua: This beast destroyed opposition with his palm of doom. Although a big body, Tua has great agility skills.

Compton Fuatimau: Super gun Compton was a late inclusion to our team. A complete player on and off the ball, Compton helped players around him improve sharing knowledge and experience. Compton’s achievements and ability are a testament to his own commitment, attitude and effort.

Jarred Howard: A tall and fast winger with good ball skills, Jarred made tough metres when needed. Full of energy and very persistent Jarred always provided quality banter getting under the opponents (and officials) skin.

Lagitupu Joseph: Tups started the season with a bang. Playing in the middle, Tups is deceptively fast, and very hard to handle…Unfortunately injury held him back this year.

Mark Kitiona: A solid player who never let us down. Mark grew into a leader amongst our team and club. Always keen to learn, Mark’s attention to the 1percenters and efforts towards fitness made him a pleasure to coach.

Dane Loutsos: Another late entrant, pocket rocket Dane is a ball of energy. Versatile Dane went from outside back to front row with zero complaints and was 100% all in all the time.

Carson Lutau: TOUGH! Carson carried the team on his humble shoulders. Carson’s Phenomenal go forward and unbelievable offload gave opposing forward headaches. His physicality also meant his thunderous hits were felt by all.

Lachlan Mcalpine: A loyal team mate who fears nothing. Macca became my ‘square up’ defensively solid player. Targeted by oppositions, Macca never took a backwards step, surprising, frustrating and often dumping anyone who tried to take him on.

Jerome Nakhl: Handy winger who always done his job well. Never shy of a tough carry, Jerome played well above his weight. Despite being a smaller guy, he always gave 100% and never let us down.

Jon Pengue: Co Captain Mr Pengue became a leader amongst our group who steered our ship week in week out. Smallest player with the biggest heart, Jon became our General.

71 Tamarere Simons: A strong, powerful player with skills to match. Tama is a year young but plays ahead of his time often getting calls or winning penalties with his niggly efforts. Playing out of preferred positions Tama showed that if focussed, he could be the best player on the field.

Josiah Taani: Josiah was our big man in the middle and he has unbelievable leg speed. When fired up, there is no stopping him! Josiah terrorized opposition forwards and always supported fellow forwards through the middle.

Tommy Tahu: Hype man Tommy is full of spark. Always keen to make an impact Tommy covered many positions for us, gave 100% and brought his positive energy every time.

Faamanuia Taotua: Strong middle forward, OJ was always pushing through the middles in support play. OJ used his strength to set the platform for us, and he also has solid defense.

Jerome Williams: Game breaker Jerome lit the grounds up with his lightning footwork. Jerome’s athleticism proved that he is an elite fullback. If he wasn’t scoring tries, he was saving them with his solid defence… Absolute Weapon. Jerome has HUGE potential.

COACH’S REPORT

The girls were a little slow to get to training but when they did, they didn't disappoint. Always respectful, eager to learn and smiling, they were always a pleasure to coach. It was a little hard to get the girls switched on with their constant laughter and chatter but when they did their class shone, taking out the big one 38-8. I'm sure we'll see some of these girls in the Women’s NRL in the near future. It was a great team effort and we couldn't have achieved it without the great support of Paul, Killer, Sally, Mette, Sinead and Corey. The team always represented the club with pride and great sportsmanship and their rendition of the St. Christopher’s song was the best we've had. Congratulations ladies!
