District 113 Athletics Spring 2020 March, 2020 ● In person district 113 athletics is shutdown ● Coach engagement virtually (this has been ongoing from March through today). ○ Zoom meetings - sport specific, social/emotional, covid, systemic racism, leadership, special guests ○ Trivia contests ○ Workouts ○ Video analysis ○ Care packages ○ Senior nights, virtual and in person following all guidelines ○ Award nights, virtual and in person following all guidelines ○ Activities night video ○ Professional development ○ Book club June 2020 June, 2020 ● IHSA Phase 3 to align with state of Illinois Phase 3 ● Conditioning camps held ● 500+ student athletes and 50+ coaches participated ● June 16th - July 9th July 2020 July - August, 2020 ● IHSA Phase 4 to align with state of Illinois Phase 4 ● Sport specific camps are held ● Over 1000 registered student athletes and nearly 100 coaches ● June 14th - August 7th Fall 2020 August 10 - October 24, 2020 ● IHSA Seasonal Sports ● Boys/Girls Golf ● Girls Tennis ● Boys/Girls Cross Country ● Girls Swimming & Diving ● Over 500 Student Athletes Fall 20 Timeline September 7th - October 31st, 2020 ● IHSA Contact Days ● Allows sports slated to be played in the winter, spring, and summer seasons to have 20 days of sports specific student engagement. Winter 2020-2021 November 16th - February 13th, 2020 ● IHSA Seasonal Sports ● Boys/Girls Basketball ● Wrestling ● Boys Swimming & Diving ● Cheerleading ● Dance ● Boys/Girls Bowling ● Girls Gymnastics Spring 2021 February 15th - May 1st, 2020 ● IHSA Seasonal Sports ● Football ● Boys Soccer ● Girls Volleyball ● Girls Badminton ● Boys Gymnastics ● Boys/Girls Water Polo Summer 2021 May 3rd - June 26th, 2020 ● IHSA Seasonal Sports ● Baseball ● Softball ● Boys/Girls Track & Field ● Girls Soccer ● Boys Volleyball ● Boys/Girls Lacrosse ● Boys Tennis Covid and the Impact on Athletics Areas to be considered ● Guidelines for a safe experience ● Facility locations ● Number of student athletes per camp/group ● Number of sessions to meet demand ● Comfort level of coaches ● Screening of student athletes and staff ● Formation of groups ● Social distancing ● Length of sessions ● Registration process ● Impact of a positive COVID test ● Equipment needs ● Restroom access ● Cost to student athletes and families ● Impact of hazardous weather ● Water for student athletes ● Entrance and exit of camps ● Masking up Screening Process ● Athletic Trainers Role ● Coaches Role ● Logistics Covid 19 What is ahead for Athletics ● Following guidelines while planning and hosting events ● Managing student athletes and coaches from other schools ● No spectators on campus ● Streaming events ● Transportation ● 20 contact days ● Open gyms ● Planning for winter, spring and summer District 113 Athletic Schedules ● ~2,000 Athletes ● ~200 Coaches ● 60 Athletic Programs ○ Each Program has multiple levels (between 2-4) ○ Approximately 180 team schedules consisting of anywhere between 9 and 35 competitions ○ Each competition requires a contract to be signed between schools ○ Approximately 5,000 contests ○ Signing/Sending approximately 5,000 contracts ● Schedules are typically done a year in advance ● Due to the Pandemic and the IHSA decision to change seasons on Aug. 1st ○ Now moving to 4 seasons instead of 3 (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer) ○ All schedules for school year 2020-2021 had to be deleted ○ Assistant AD’s are in the process of recreating all sports schedules/contracts ● Officials ○ Scheduled, cancelled, now working on rescheduling for each competition Transportation ● Seating Capacity per bus is still undetermined ○ 1st change: Yellow Bus = 50 students ○ 2nd change: White Bus = 3 students + driver & Yellow Bus= 1 per row(11 or 12 students) ○ Third change: White Bus = 7 + driver & Yellow Bus = 23 students ● Coordination with transportation director Brandon Hayes ○ After remote learning routes ○ New Live Schedule document ○ Screening Process prior to riding the bus ○ Safety Measures on the bus for Covid-19 ○ Cleaning Procedures ● Set up late activity bus @ 6:15pm to take students home after practices ● Transportation Waiver ○ Students can drive to contests ○ Parents can drive to contests Facilities ● Coordination with Buildings and Grounds Bill Knesley, Keith Cordell and Brian Ahmer ○ Ensure clean and safe facilities ● Coordination of facilities usage between athletics/activities ○ Check in and health screening ● Organize the usage of Park District tennis courts/golf courses/cross country courses ○ Needed in order to host multiple levels ○ Off Campus Safety Procedures Professional Development ● Return to Training in June ● Illinois Bone and Joint Institute Sports Performance Center ● The Good Athlete Project ● Central Suburban League Student Leadership Summit ● Brian Cain - mental performance coach (MLB, NHL, College Baseball, and UFC) ● Leadership sessions will run throughout the year (20 week program) ● Mental Performance Mindset - DF and HP coaches MPM certification.
