Volume 1 / Issue 1 WELCOME 14-15 YEAR IN In an effort to further promote Maine East Athletics and our REVIEW successes, I am starting a (hopefully) monthly newsletter. I am also looking for a catchy name for this. Feel free to email me any name Girls Volleyball- CSL North suggestions and other newsletter worthy items! Champions, Regional Champions, ZONI Banner Torrain Wins D207 Meet! Winner Senior Torrain Haughton’s cross country season is off to a great start. He won the D207 Cross Country Boys Water Polo-CSL North Meet on September 1st at Maine West. Torrain ran Co-Champions with the leaders for most of the race before Boys Volleyball-CSL North distancing himself in the last quarter mile. He Champions, Regional defeated 2 runners that were state qualifiers last year. Champions Torrain also finished 12th at the Fenton Earlybird Invite competing against some of the top runners in 9 Teams earned IHSA Team the state. He came back this past weekend and placed 8th at the Academic Awards Wauconda Invite. The Peoria Invite on October 3rd will be a barometer for how well he will do this season. The meet is held at Detweiler Park in Peoria which also serves as the course for the IHSA State Meet. OVERALL PARTICIPATION WAY UP! The number of students participating in Fall Athletics has gone way up this year. 2014-15 had 299 participants, while 2015-16 currently has 390 participants. That is over a 30% increase! Panoramic View of Maine Memorial JOIN MAINE EAST ATHLETIC BOOSTERS Stadium field Year in and year out, the Athletic Boosters donate time and raise money for our athletic programs. All registration money goes towards scholarships at the end of the year. For more information, go to: www.meaboosters.org NEW FALL HEAD COACHES Scott Smith is our new Head Football Coach at Maine East. Scott brings a wealth of experience as well as an understanding of the Maine East community and the Central Suburban League. For the past two years, he has been the varsity Defensive Coordinator for the Maine East football program. Prior to coming to Maine East, Scott was Head Coach at Niles North for 7 seasons. He th Blue Crew and “12 Man” working also has experience as a varsity assistant together to cheer on football! football coach at St. Viator High School, and also Prospect High School as a coach for their state championship team. Scott currently teaches Driver Education and Physical Education at Maine East. Scott Schultes is our new Head Girls Cross Country Coach. He has been very involved while here at East. Scott has spent the last 12 years coaching in our Boys’ Track and Boys’ Cross Country programs, including being Head Track coach the past 4 years. Scott is a Maine East grad and was a decorated athlete while here. This included being All Conference in football and Track as well as All State (2 years) in track. His picture is up on our Wall of Fame. Scott currently teaches Math here at East.
