Werktag/Chessex/Buess Hello. We are happy to announce a new Release from A Tree in a Field Records: File under experimental, neue musik Werktag/Chessex/Buess WERKTAG/CHESSEX/BUESS takes its roots in the Zurich based trio WERKTAG, initiated in 2012, and to which Alex Buess and Antoine Chessex are now both bringing their own contribution. WERKTAG evolves in the tension field between written, experimental and improvised music and tends to have a weakness for the combination of acoustic instruments and live multi-track electronic music. As a result, the volume is sometimes pretty loud ; something Alex Buess and Antoine Chessex feel more than comfortable with. Belonging to two different generations of swiss musicians, they both find each other at the border of contemporary Cat N° TREE056 music, noise, hardcore, and free improvisation. Writting music is a part of Format 12“ Vinyl / Digital both of their creative processes. Distribution Irascible The two musicians straight away identified with a music which was both raw Release Date 30.10.2015 and edgy. “Shattered Grid“, by Alex Buess, develops from a calm breath to an over-bursting sound. A sort of tape music for live instruments, together with a LC 18318 6-track tape which has been cut apart and stuck back together repeatedly. Or, EAN LP 7640153363299 according to Alex Buess‘ own words : “a morphic field, put together by several patterns. This field consists mainly in samples of acoustic instruments and sound material I synthesised by filtering it or by shortening it and elongating it. Alex Buess (composition) Thanks to the setup of the room and the diffusion of sounds, spatial-acoustic Antoine Chessex (composition) swirls are created. Because of the extensive electronic sound amplification, a hyper-acoustic is created.“ Tobias Gerber (saxophone) “Furia“, by Antoine Chessex, also develops something which could be Rafael Rütti (piano) defined as “hyper acoustic“. The initial peace and quiet slowly dissolves into the buzzing sound of the three instruments, from which emanates a massive Sebastian Hofmann (percussion) monolith. A vast and impressive resonance space is thus created. Drums, synth and saxophone end up nearly losing themselves in this massive body of sound, although they actually initially created it. 7 640153 363299 What is here presented on vinyl was recorded in the SRF2 radio studio by Alex Buess. He then reworked the sound, not as far as to write remixes, but allowing singular, independent pieces to emerge. Pieces that may, however, serve as a starting point for future live performances. We’d like to think that in a highly partisan modern world, we actually live up to the credo: “We New York@Night Report, You Decide”. No segment of jazz or improvised music or avant garde or 4 whatever you call it is overlooked, since only as a full quilt can we keep out the cold of commercialism. I'm paraphrasing anyway as I don't have any ready recall of very many Tina Turner quotes but you know what the fuck I mean. I mean Jesus Christ everyone knows Proud Mary, but the point is this: is the ontological connection between sex and commerce as pervasive as it now, post-An Evil Heat, seems to me to be? Okay. Forget I asked that. The radio churns away: "That's the time I feel like making love to you." Okay. Don't forget I asked that. I'm in the cab on my way to the airport. The cab driver is a 60 year old, 260 pound, beet- red faced Irishman whose high spirits at 5 in the morning seem to be causally connected to high spirits. The song is on the radio and it doesn't take but a minute for him to get around to what's clearly been on his mind for like... oh, weeks. "Where you going?" "Well I'm going to this festival in Bern, Switzerland, to sing for some band named STEAMBOAT SWITZERLAND and it's..." "Yeah, I'm going to Thailand next week." Pause here for morality reading.

BAD ALCHEMY 44 MC 1 2 NEW CONCEPTIONS OF JAZZ ?

Federal Department of Home Affairs FDHA Federal Office of Culture FOC Appendix Swiss Music Prize 2014 Brief biographies of the nominees Reverend Beat-Man Born Beat Zeller in 1967 near Berne, Reverend Beat-Man has become a firm fixture on the music scene. He first tried his hand as a singer and musician at the age of 13 before forming his band The Monsters in 1986 and setting up his own record label Voodoo Rhythm Records in 1992. With The Monsters, Zeller created an entirely new genre that fuses psychobilly with garage punk and went on to showcase it with more than a thousand concerts in South America, Japan, Australia, the US and the rest of the world. His stage presence as frontman of The Monsters has captivated audiences in smaller clubs and large venues alike. Zeller attained cult status thanks in no small part to this work with Voodoo Rhythm Records, which has gained him a reputation as a resolute champion of innova- tive and experimental artists. In Switzerland, his achievements were honoured with the Canton of Berne Special Recognition Award in 2007. www.voodoorhythm.com/reverend.html Ensemble Phoenix Basel The Ensemble Phoenix Basel has taken an exciting approach to new music ever since it was formed in 1998 by Jürg Henneberger, Christoph Bösch and Daniel Buess. It specialises in electronic music, crossover projects, musical theatre and original performances that continually redefine and push the boundaries of “new music”. The Ensemble has worked with composers and authors such as Zbigniew Karkowski, Helmut Oehring, Alex Buess and Dror Feiler, to name but a few.
