Hello. We are happy to announce a new Release from A Tree in a Field Records: File under experimental, neue musik Werktag/Chessex/Buess WERKTAG/CHESSEX/BUESS takes its roots in the Zurich based trio WERKTAG, initiated in 2012, and to which Alex Buess and Antoine Chessex are now both bringing their own contribution. WERKTAG evolves in the tension field between written, experimental and improvised music and tends to have a weakness for the combination of acoustic instruments and live multi-track electronic music. As a result, the volume is sometimes pretty loud ; something Alex Buess and Antoine Chessex feel more than comfortable with. Belonging to two different generations of swiss musicians, they both find each other at the border of contemporary Cat N° TREE056 music, noise, hardcore, and free improvisation. Writting music is a part of Format 12“ Vinyl / Digital both of their creative processes. Distribution Irascible The two musicians straight away identified with a music which was both raw Release Date 30.10.2015 and edgy. “Shattered Grid“, by Alex Buess, develops from a calm breath to an over-bursting sound. A sort of tape music for live instruments, together with a LC 18318 6-track tape which has been cut apart and stuck back together repeatedly. Or, EAN LP 7640153363299 according to Alex Buess‘ own words : “a morphic field, put together by several patterns. This field consists mainly in samples of acoustic instruments and sound material I synthesised by filtering it or by shortening it and elongating it. Alex Buess (composition) Thanks to the setup of the room and the diffusion of sounds, spatial-acoustic Antoine Chessex (composition) swirls are created. Because of the extensive electronic sound amplification, a hyper-acoustic is created.“ Tobias Gerber (saxophone) “Furia“, by Antoine Chessex, also develops something which could be Rafael Rütti (piano) defined as “hyper acoustic“. The initial peace and quiet slowly dissolves into the buzzing sound of the three instruments, from which emanates a massive Sebastian Hofmann (percussion) monolith. A vast and impressive resonance space is thus created. Drums, synth and saxophone end up nearly losing themselves in this massive body of sound, although they actually initially created it. 7 640153 363299 What is here presented on vinyl was recorded in the SRF2 radio studio by Alex Buess. He then reworked the sound, not as far as to write remixes, but allowing singular, independent pieces to emerge. Pieces that may, however, serve as a starting point for future live performances.
