We discovered that we knew little about the candidates for Oklahomll, whel'e be will pl!lce hill the SUj;lerlltitilm Mountains. Mayor. We agreed we wanted respect for both ourselves 'and ourTAX MONey. . . We do ,not want to be spoon fed and do not want to be told What we shOUld do and, not do by the village officials or anyone else. . , Most of us krlew the record of Mr. Davis fr~m his years as mayor, filled With irresponsible remarks and actions, not the least of which his wish that the seniorcitizens would all go away, also d~claring himself ahaterof animals "• and animal lovers, We could recall little that was done for Mr. and Mrs. Public - only special interest groups. , We understand Mr. James is a retired business man and no doubt a s.uc cessful one but we feel that this would have little value in Municipal govern ment. As far as we could ascertain he has no experience with Municipal pro blems and law. No doubt some improvements could be made in the viUage administration but any attempt to shake it up could be a disaster. Many of us first questioned Mr. Evan's judgement when he broad, casted from Washington that Senator Domenici had refused to help Ruidoso with a new airport, only to h'ear the senator say the following day that he (the senator) could support the choice of the site If the village could reach agree· ment with the school. • Analysis of Mr. Evans college appears to be more fiction than fact 'as we . --1 Hi ',rt'V'--',-t r:i:'i?C:: can find no meritlon of. it prior to his present mayoral campaign. We also -....- hear that he told the Rotarians that "it could fall on its face In two years." • Mr. Evans advocates vlllagecontroi of the old airport land to "keep it out of the hands of speCUlators" (His ad). Yet when Councillor Karn made the suggestion to rezone and protect It for schools, parks, etc., Councillor Evans did not support it and spoke against it. . . • , , . During his four-year walk.around the cOlin- chair. In the photograph above right. Hardy A comparison of the voting rebords by Mr. Evans and Mr. Karn (both on try to raise money for the March of Dimes, stands with his shoppln g cart of ·the present council) was very enlightening. Paul Hardy makes ornaments out of belongings. . Mr. evans voted to bUy Ute Cree Meadows Golf Course~ Mr. Karn opp~sed E\lumlnllrtl cans. Above, he makes a rocking, and we can all be thankful that the Village did not bUy it as the annual deficit would have prObably resulted in increased taxes. • Most noteworthy to us Is the amendment to the l,.Qd~ers' Tax bilipush ed through by Mr. evans which obliges the Village, each year, to match dollar ,( for dollar(without ceiling or restriction) each dollarcollected by the lodgers' t~.· . . To raise this year's $1.10,000, the Council has made three budget cuts and reduced needed services, so If your streets have potholes, this may be the reason. Mr. Karn opposed the lodgers' t~ ordinanc~, but he lost. One-third of this supe,r-fund (all your tax money) is designated to hire a tourism and convention director which will in most cases duplicate the efforts of our Chamber of 'CommerCe which is flnanced'(and rightly s.o) prImarily by t,he · members whose Interest it serves,"Thi$ means that this year apprOXimately $110,000 of YOUR TAX MONEY wIII.flow, into this fund financing speoial In I terests. Incidentally: one of our very vocal council persons also supported C"'T"""M-:--) tbis while worrying aboutthe much smaller amount In the Senior Citizens department budget for we locals. The voting records of Mr.· Evans and Mr. Karn reflect their differing • politlqal Philosophies. Mr. Karn opposed the paving of private property with 9ur tax dollars. Mr. , • Evans, voted. to pave., . - •

Mr. Karn proposed that the Village change the zoning on 'Cree MeadOWS p ,, 'fairways from R-1 (single famUy dwellings) to golf course. Mr.Evans oppos'ed. .'
