OUR CONTINUED FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19 In May 2021, Singapore re-tightened its COVID-19 measures under the Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) due to the rise in community cases and the spread of the B1617 variant. In the past weeks, Ministers Lawrence Wong and Gan Kim Yong, co-chairs of the Multi-Ministry Task Force, as well as Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, made various statements to explain the situation. • Media Release
5 March 2008 MEDIA RELEASE INTER-MINISTRY COMMITTEE TO REVIEW HELP FOR DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN The Government has set up an Inter-Ministry Committee (IMC) to review the help for dysfunctional families with children. Every child is important, and children from dysfunctional homes are particularly vulnerable to falling behind in their development. Left without help, they may perpetuate an inter-generational cycle of dysfunctionality. The IMC will come up with recommendations to help these families so that they can overcome the challenges they face, and their children have a good chance to do well. Composition of the IMC 2 The IMC is chaired by the Minister of Community Development, Youth and Sports, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan. The members of the Committee are Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs, Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee; Minister of State for Community Development, Youth and Sports, Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon; Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Education, Mr Masagos Zulkifli; Parliamentary Secretary for National Development, Dr Maliki Osman; as well as Parliamentary Secretary for Community Development, Youth and Sports, Mr Teo Ser Luck. 3 The IMC is supported by several government agencies, social work agencies, Self-Help Groups and other people sector representatives who work with dysfunctional families. (Please see Annex A for a full list of agencies involved) Key focus areas 4 Although many avenues of help are available for dysfunctional families, agencies involved in helping these families could be better coordinated, to ensure that families receive holistic assistance and develop long-term resilience. Hence, the IMC will focus on four key strategic thrusts.

  • Speech by Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Heng Chee How at ACCORD Appreciation and Appointment Function 2018
Speech by Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Heng Chee How at ACCORD Appreciation and Appointment Function 2018 28 Jul 2018 My parliamentary colleague Dr Maliki Osman, Members of the ACCORD, Friends, Ladies and Gentlemen, A very good afternoon. First of all, on behalf of Dr Maliki Osman and myself, we thank all of you for being here this afternoon. We would also like to thank the NDP EXCO for accommodating us today at The Float. I think it is a most appropriate venue to hold our appreciation function, to thank everyone for your tremendous contributions and also to welcome new members to ACCORD. Since its restructuring in 2014, ACCORD has helped MINDEF in coming up with new ideas to strengthen support for National Service (NS) and defence, and more importantly put these ideas into action. In the past two years, we were busy building on the strong foundation laid by members in the previous term, and in 2017 we worked extra hard to roll out initiatives in support of NS50. I would like to highlight two very successful events. First, we worked with the Centre for Fathering and the Army to organise the "Dads for Life" Camp during the Army Open House in 2017. It was fully subscribed, with 210 pairs of father-and-child participants, and that event received a lot of positive feedback. We also collaborated with Families for Life Council, who partnered the Singapore Discovery Centre to organise "Celebrating NS50" picnic, I think we saw it in the video just now, to engage families of National Servicemen in an effort to highlight the importance of family support towards NS and defence.
