A list of the species from Iran belonging to the subfamilies Eulophinae, Entedoninae and Tetrastichinae is presented. In the present work 47 species from 22 genera are recorded from Iran. Two species (Cirrospilus scapus sp. nov. and Aprostocetus persicus sp. nov.) are described as new. A list of 45 host-parasitoid associations in Iran and keys to Iranian species of three genera (Cirrospilus, Diglyphus and Aprostocetus) are included. Zusammenfassung Dieser Artikel zeigt den derzeitigen Untersuchungsstand an eulophiden Wespen und ihrer Wirte im Iran. Eine Liste der für den Iran festgestellten Arten der Unterfamilien Eu- lophinae, Entedoninae und Tetrastichinae wird präsentiert. Mit vorliegender Arbeit werden 47 Arten in 22 Gattungen aus dem Iran nachgewiesen. Zwei neue Arten (Cirrospilus sca- pus sp. nov. und Aprostocetus persicus sp. nov.) werden beschrieben. Eine Liste von 45 Wirts- und Parasitoid-Beziehungen im Iran und ein Schlüssel für 3 Gattungen (Cirro- spilus, Diglyphus und Aprostocetus) sind in der Arbeit enthalten. -

Kravchenko Abstract The article reports on the quantitative description of the food web structure of the community consisting of 65 species of Lepidoptera leaf miners reared from 34 plant species, as well as 107 species of parasitoid eulophid wasps (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae). The study was conducted in the forest-steppe zone of the Middle Volga in Russia over 13 years (2000-2012). Leaf miners have been found to be highly host plant-specific. Most of them are associated with only one or two plant species and therefore the number of links between trophic levels is 73, which is close to the total number of Lepidoptera species (linkage density is 1.12). -

Entoroo!. 11(3): 225-253 (July 1994) ABSTRACT Insects are one, among a number, of biotic and abiotic constraints that limit the production of food crops. Entomologists can playa key role in increasing food production through the development of insect resistant crop cultivars. Resistant cultivars are sought as a major tactic in the development of IPM strategies and have been shown to be compatible with biological, chemical and cultural control tactics. There has been significant progress in the breeding and commercial utilization of multiple pest resistant crop cultivars having resistance to insects, diseases and nematodes. The most notable examples are rice cultivars which are grown on millions of hectares in Asia. Multiple pest resistant crop cultivars have high yield stability when grown in pest-infested environments. -

Host plant resistance and biological control appear to be the most promising control measures adopted so far. Three major rice genotypes (Oryza sativa, Oryza glaberrima and interspecific rice, New Rice for Africa (NERICA)) are cultivated in Nigeria. In two consecutive years (2008/09), field experiments were conducted at two eco-sites, using the genotypes to determine their influence on the incidence of the gall midge and percentage parasitism by Platygaster diplosisae, Risbec (Diptera: Platygateridae), an endoparasitoid that has been identified as the most important natural enemy of AfRGM. The AfRGM tiller infestation and parasitism by the parasitoid were significantly influenced (P< 0.05) by the rice genotypes for the two locations and seasons. Tropical Oryza glaberrima (TOG) lines showed the highest level of resistance to AfRGM attacks. -

Ranawana Department of Zoology, Faculty of Science, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka Accepted 20 December 2010 ABSTRACT According to several sources, Eucalyptus plantations in Sri Lanka are currently under threat due to an attack by a gall wasp. Our observations made at a coppiced Eucalyptus camaldulensis plantation at Maragamuwa, Naula in the Matale District revealed a heavy infestation of galls in coppiced shoots. Close examination of 40 trees in a block revealed low damage in 62.5% of the coppiced trees and heavy damage in 10% of the trees. The wasps that emerged from field collected galls were identified as Leptocybe invasa Fisher & La Salle (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae). Only female wasps emerged from the field collected galls and no parasitoids were recorded. This preliminary study highlights the severity of damage caused by L. invasa and the need to identify appropriate measures to manage this invasive gall wasp of Eucalyptus plantations in the country. S. de Medeiros1 & Cassandra G. Extavour1,2* Over the course of evolution, organism size has diversified markedly. Changes in size are thought to have occurred because of developmental, morphological and/or ecological pressures. To perform phylogenetic tests of the potential effects of these pressures, here we generated a dataset of more than ten thousand descriptions of insect eggs, and combined these with genetic and life-history datasets. We show that, across eight orders of magnitude of variation in egg volume, the relationship between size and shape itself evolves, such that previously predicted global patterns of scaling do not adequately explain the diversity in egg shapes. We show that egg size is not correlated with developmental rate and that, for many insects, egg size is not correlated with adult body size. Instead, we find that the evolution of parasitoidism and aquatic oviposition help to explain the diversification in the size and shape of insect eggs. Our study suggests that where eggs are laid, rather than universal allometric constants, underlies the evolution of insect egg size and shape. Size is a fundamental factor in many biological processes.
