Parent / Carers October 2016 Dear Parents and Carers, Many of You Parent / Carers Our Ref: AM / KB Direct Dial: 01933 226077 Email:[email protected] October 2016 Dear Parents and Carers, Many of you will remember that over the last two academic years we have run an exercise in conjunction with Northants Police and the Drugs Dog Team, this involves the use of sniffer dogs. Our aim was to highlight the dangers of drugs in our community and to reinforce the schools’ zero tolerance approach towards the issue. Schools across the Wellingborough partnership work with the Police to reinforce this message. The schools all felt it was useful in making the students aware of the consequences of bringing drugs into school. This time, all visits will take place without prior warning. While we hope that no- one is found in possession, anyone that is will be dealt with appropriately by the Police, and in accordance with the policies of their school. To reassure you, the dog that we use for these visits has been carefully trained and will be under proper supervision throughout. School visits generally last around 3 hours, and will include classroom visits, walking around during breaks and lunchtimes, and possibly before and after school. Each of our schools has developed its own individual policy on drugs; the policies are very similar and can be viewed on the websites of their respective schools (or are available on request.) When the initiative was launched, it clearly had the support of our parents/carers. We greatly valued this, and continue to do so. SCHOOL PROPOSED CHANGES FOR 2020 INTAKES Abbeyfield School Bishop Stopford School All secondary schools in the Brooke Weston Trust (Brooke Weston Academy, Corby Business Academy, Corby Technical School, Kettering Science Academy) have proposed to make their waiting list criteria clearer, by using the following revised definition: From the 1st March until the 31st August of the offer year (the academic year before the academic year in which students are admitted into Year 7) children's position on the Year 7 waiting list will be determined solely in accordance with the oversubscription criteria. Where places become vacant they will be allocated, through a fresh round of random allocation, to children on the waiting list from the stanine that has become vacant and in accordance with the oversubscription criteria. If there is no-one on the waiting list from the stanine that has a vacancy the place will be filled by a child from a neighbouring stanine on an even basis (i.e. if the first child is from a stanine above then the next will be from the stanine below).
