MCA 700 Discography by David Edwards, Mike Callahan & Patrice Eyries © 2018 by Mike Callahan MCA-700 Midline/Reissue Series: By the time the reissue series reached MCA-700, most of the ABC reissues had been accomplished in the MCA 500-600s. MCA decided that when full price albums were converted to midline prices, the albums needed a new number altogether rather than just making the administrative change. In this series, we get reissues of many MCA albums that were only one to three years old, as well as a lot of Decca reissues. Rather than pay the price for new covers and labels, most of these were just stamped with the new numbers in gold ink on the front covers, with the same jackets and labels with the old catalog numbers. “THEY WASN’T MAKIN’ MY KINDA MUSIC”: HIP-HOP, SCHOOLING, AND MUSIC EDUCATION By Adam J. Kruse A DISSERTATION Submitted to Michigan State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Music Education—Doctor of Philosophy 2014 ABSTRACT “THEY WASN’T MAKIN’ MY KINDA MUSIC”: HIP-HOP, SCHOOLING, AND MUSIC EDUCATION By Adam J. Kruse With the ambition of informing place consciousness in music education by better understanding the social contexts of hip-hop music education and illuminating potential applications of hip-hop to school music settings, the purpose of this research is to explore the sociocultural aspects of hip-hop musicians’ experiences in music education and music schooling. In particular, this study is informed by the following questions: 1. How do sociocultural contexts (particularly issues of race, space, place, and class) impact hip-hop musicians and their music? 2. What are hip-hop musicians’ perceptions of school and schooling? 3. Where, when, how, and with whom do hip-hop musicians develop and explore their musical skills and understandings? The use of an emergent design in this work allowed for the application of ethnographic techniques within the framework of a multiple case study. One case is an amateur hip-hop musician named Terrence (pseudonym), and the other is myself (previously inexperienced as a hip-hop musician) acting as participant observer. By placing Terrence and myself within our various contexts and exploring these contexts’ influences on our roles as hip-hop musicians, it is possible to understand better who we are, where and when our musical experiences exist(ed), and the complex relationships between our contexts, our experiences, and our perceptions.

  • THE CLASS.Fdr
Entre les Murs (The Class) Written by Laurent Cantet, Robin Campillo and François Bégaudeau Based on the novel "Entre les murs" by François Bégaudeau published by Verticales, 2006 Directed par Laurent Cantet Developed with the backing of the Centre National de la Cinématographie, the Procirep and the European Union's Media Programme INT. CAFÉ - DAY The first morning of the new school year. In a Paris café, leaning on the bar, FRANÇOIS, 35 or so, peacefully sips coffee. In the background, we can vaguely make out a conversation about the results of the presidential election. François looks at his watch and seems to take a deep breath as if stepping onto a stage. EXT. STREET - DAY François comes out of the café. Across the street, we discover a large building whose slightly outdated façade is not particularly welcoming. He walks over to the imposing entrance that bears the shield of the City of Paris in wrought iron and beneath which we read “JAURES MIDDLE SCHOOL”. On the opposite sidewalk, coming from the other end of the street, a small group of teachers hurries towards the entrance. François hears them joking. VINCENT He’s a really great guy, not the back- slapping type but… François greets them in passing. INT. CORRIDORS - SCHOOL - DAY We discover the school’s deserted corridors. Through the doorway of a classroom, François sees a few cleaners who, in a very calm atmosphere, clean the tables and line them up neatly, wash the windows… A short distance further on, a man in overalls applies one last coat of paint to an administrative notice board.

  • A TREATISE on DRAMATIC CONTEMPORARY BLACK John S
iâ,o / + THE BLACK SPIRIT: A TRILOGY OF ORIGINAL PLAYS AND A TREATISE ON DRAMATIC THEORY IN CONTEMPORARY BLACK DRAMA John S. Scott A Dissertation Submitted to the graduate school of 3owling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY March 1972 K /lû 3")v.rm - ■-Ê'IÀo vyû. \Qû> -p, X © 1972 John Sherman Scott ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ii ABSTRACT Through recent Black Drama has drawn considerable critical attention, the dramatic theories of contemporary 31ack playwrights have been neglected and misunderstood. This study creatively and theoretically explored the import of Black aesthetics and the intent of Black playwrights’ dramatic language and structure. The problem was to isolate and define the assumptions, language, and actions operating in Black aesthetics and, further, to identify my dramatic intentions and those of other Black playwrights. This study attempted to define what contemporary Black drama is about, suggested what it ought to be about, and postulated a basis for critical evaluation. A theoretical discussion and description of the Black Spirit provided a background for the specific notions of aesthetics and dramatic intention, which could be related to, compared with, and drawn from. Beauty, Order, Language and Action were discussed in relationship to the theory of the Black Spirit. Following, a trilogy of original plays is presented. These plays reflect the creative efforts of one 31ack playwright operating with a conscious awareness of the theoretical Potions of the Black Spirit. The study concluded that the Black Spirit is a pri mordial aesthetic of mellifluous, polyrhythmic, spontaneous and infinite dimensions.
