Three new species: Anapistula choojaiae sp. nov., Crassignatha seeliam sp. nov., and Crassignatha seedam sp. nov. are described and illustrated. Distribution is expanded and additional morphological data are reported for Patu shiluensis Lin & Li, 2009. Specimens were collected in Thailand between July and August 2018. The newly described species were found in the north mountainous region of Chiang Mai, and Patu shiluensis was collected in the coastal region of Phuket. -

Beitr. 49/1 15-19 28.7.2017 A catalogue of the family Rhopalosomatidae (Vespoidea) of the Malagasy subregion (Insecta: Hymenoptera) Michael MADL A b s t r a c t : In the Malagasy subregion the family Rhopalosomatidae, which is known only from the Madagascar, is represented by the genera Olixon CAMERON, 1887 (two species) and Paniscomima ENDERLEIN, 1904 (four species). K e y w o r d s : Insecta, Hymenoptera, Olixon, Paniscomima, Madagascar. Introduction The family Rhopalosomatidae is known from all zoogeographical regions except the Palaearctic region. In the Malagasy subregion it occurs only on the island of Madagascar. The larvae are parasitods of Orthoptera (Gryllidae), but no host records of the Malagasy species are known. Until now, two species of the genus Olixon CAMERON, 1887 and four species of the genus Paniscomima ENDERLEIN, 1904 have been recorded from Madagascar. They form a complex consisting of many species belonging to several genera that affect the roots of commercial crops. The objec- tive of the present study was to identify the members of the complex present in two localities (Caldono and Buenos Aires) and collect basic information on their biology, economic impor- tance, and larval morphology. The first of two types of sampling involved sampling adults in light traps installed weekly throughout one year. The second method involved larval collec- tions in plots of cassava, pasture, coffee, and woodland. Each locality was visited once per month and 10 samples per plot were collected on each occasion, with each sample from a quad- rants 1 m2 by 15 cm deep, during 1999-2000. Light traps collected 12,512 adults belonging to 45 species and 21 genera of Scarabaeidae within the subfamilies Dynastinae, Melolonthinae, and Rutelinae. Members of the subfamily Dynastinae predominated with 48% of the species (mostly Cyclocephala), followed in decreasing order by Melolonthinae (35%) and Rutelinae (15%, principally Anomala). -

The number A of abdominal segments varies, however; there are only six in the Collembola (springtails), 9–12 in the Protura, and 10 in the Diplura, whereas in all other hexapods there are strictly 11. Insects are now regarded as comprising only those hexapods with 11 abdominal segments. Whereas crustaceans are the dominant group of arthropods in the sea, hexapods prevail on land, in numbers and biomass. Altogether, the Hexapoda constitutes the most diverse group of animals – the estimated number of described species worldwide is just over 900,000, with the beetles (order Coleoptera) comprising more than a third of these. Today, the Hexapoda is considered to contain four classes – the Insecta, and the Protura, Collembola, and Diplura. The latter three classes were formerly allied with the insect orders Archaeognatha (jumping bristletails) and Thysanura (silverfish) as the insect subclass Apterygota (‘wingless’). The Apterygota is now regarded as an artificial assemblage (Bitsch & Bitsch 2000). -

E-mail: [email protected] Abstract A yearly biodiversity monitoring of longhorned beetles (Cerambycidae) in a Honduran cloud forest revealed a new species of prionine. Derobrachus cusucoensis sp. nov. is a locally relatively common species described from Cusuco National Park in Honduras, becoming the ninth species of this genus recorded for the country. Similar both in morphology and a montane habitat to D. dohrni, there is a possibility that this new species represents a disconnected population from the latter that evolved separately. An adapted insert for an existing identification key to all Derobrachus species is included.
