By pairing the two technologies, Enel can store energy generated by the renewable plants to be delivered when needed, such as to help smooth the supply of electricity to the grid or during periods of high electricity demand. Press Office T +34 954 417 311 [email protected] endesa.com ENDESA CONNECTS TO THE GRID A NEW PHOTOVOLTAIC PLANT OF AROUND 50 MW IN BADAJOZ • Endesa has invested 35 million euros in the construction of the Augusto solar plant, creating more than 300 jobs and carrying out training courses on renewable issues • During construction, advanced technologies were employed and numerous conservation actions that will benefit the whole Extremadura region were carried out Badajoz, December 22nd, 2020 – Endesa, through its renewable energy company Enel Green Power España (EGPE), has completed the construction of the Augusto photovoltaic plant located in the municipality of Badajoz, Extremadura. This 49.91 MW photovoltaic plant, in which Endesa invested 35 million euros, was built in record time, in compliance with the strictest health and safety measures, even in the most difficult moments of the global Covid-19 outbreak. For the construction of the plant, which is expected to produce around 100.45 GWh a year, equivalent to the combined annual energy consumption of towns like Merida and Almendralejo, more than 300 people have been employed, 70% of them from Extremadura. Rigorous safety protocols were implemented, in light of the ongoing pandemic and in line with the indications provided by health authorities, with the aim to ensure the necessary protection of the workers involved in the construction as well as to the communities where the plant is being installed. Augusto features 127,980 bifacial photovoltaic panels of 390 watts peak power. The bifacial nature of these panels ensures greater use of solar energy, making them more efficient than conventional panels. -

The construction project, which is expected for completion this year, will entail an investment of around 96 million euros. Enel Green Power will employ around 900 people from the local area for the construction of these plants, in keeping with the Shared Value Creation plan that the company's renewable energy subsidiary, Enel Green Power Spain, applies in the construction of all its plants. The Veracruz, Puerta Palmas, and El Doblón plants will each have installed capacity of around 50MW thanks to bifacial photovoltaic panels, which are more efficient as they generate power by exposing both sides of the cells to sunlight. These panels, which will be installed using state-of-the-art technology, will come into operation in December 2021. Enel Green Power España is focusing on Extremadura as it one of the regions of the country with the most hours of sunshine. The company uses the Sustainable Construction Site model, which includes several actions that help to minimize environmental impacts for all new renewable plant projects: installing solar photovoltaic panels to meet part of the energy requirements during construction, the installation of storage tanks and rainwater collection systems for water conservation. -

The works will employ about 1,200 people during peak activity, mostly local labour, one of the measures of EGPE's Shared Value Creation plan in the construction of all its plants. The three facilities, which will have about 445,000 panels, will have a combined power of more than 180 MW. Three of the plants started this week are located in Extremadura: Apicio, Beturia and Nertóbriga. These are three of the five photovoltaic plants that the company will build between the Extremaduran municipalities of Fregenal de la Sierra and Bodonal. The three plants, which will be operational by December 2021, will have a power of about 50 MW each and will employ around 900 people during the construction phase. In total, 274,904 bifacial photovoltaic panels will be installed, which are more efficient in allowing not only solar radiation to be captured through the upper panels, but also the reflection on the ground is also exploited thanks to the infrastructure's bifaciality. -
