The Ward Chief was very vocal about this issue. They are calling for asking a new engineer from the DLPIU-building. He has also specified this in a meeting minute. • No non-compliant houses were found and almost 99% of the houses completed. • There is no issue of grievances. 15th Mar: Visited Helambu 6&7 • Housing typology collect ward 6 and 7. 8th Apr: Visited Barhabise Mun 5,6,9 • The presence of field engineers in Barhabise-5 and 6 is very poor • The final inspection is yet to start in the wards Barhabise 5 and 6 • There are about 15/16 HHs who have not been able to reconstruct due to their land being on the Right of Way of the Municipality. The municipality are facing problem in relocating them as they have no land elsewhere. • There are 4 non-compliant houses in Barhabise RM 9. The houses are RCC structure with missing bands in which the engineers are finding it difficult to apply corrections. • There are about 16 Households in the ward 9 who have received 1st tranche but have not started reconstruction. 9th Apr: Visited Barhabise Mun 7 and 8: • Collected Housing Typologies 10th Apr: Visited Lisankhupakhar RM 4,5: • The deputy chief of Lisankhupakhar RM, Hem Ganga Moktan bemoaned that there have been several rounds of data collection in the name of vulnerable households but there haven’t been any updates on the progress of programs aimed at the vulnerable households by the NRA. She asked if there are any plans from NRA aimed at the vulnerable HHs? • The issue of grievance has been the single most pressing issue facing the reconstruction in the RM. The list provided to the engineers does not include all the names that were recommended by the wards. This has created a lot of confusion and outrage amongst the elected representatives as they are unaware if the missing HHs should re-file their application or should they direct the engineers to survey all the HHS? with the timeframe limited to only 45 days, these needs to be addressed as soon as possible. Challenges / Issues Identified Action Required Responsible Timeframe The presence of the field engineers is very Urgent need to take actions by DLPIU Building, M&E ASAP poor in the Palika. the concerned authorities consultant, ward The CS entry of the Palika is Poor Need to install reliable ISP at the DLPIUchairperson Building, CLPIU MIS ASAP ward offices and the engineers Consultant need to be provided with orientation on CS entry. • WASH Cluster Nepal 4W - May 12Th 2015
WASH Cluster Nepal 4W - May 12th 2015 Please find following the analysis of the 4W data – May 12th Introduction (Round 2) This is the second round of the 4W analysis. As this is the second round and still early in the emergency response, many agencies are still planning their interventions and caseloads, hence much of the data is understandably incomplete. In the coming week/s we will receive far more comprehensive partner data and will be able to show realistic gaps. In addition, we are receiving better affected population data and there are many ongoing assessments, the results of which will help us to understand both the response data and the affected population data and enable us to deliver a far more profound analysis of the WASH response. Please assist us as we have a lot of information gaps in the data provided so far and hence the maps are not yet providing a true picture of the response. We would like to quickly move to VDC mapping including planned/reached beneficiaries. Since the first round of reporting, agencies have provided substantially more VDC‐level data – as of today, of 740 WASH activities identified, 546 of these (74%) are matched to an identified VDC ‐ this is a big improvement from last week (which had VDC data for 192 of 445 activities, or 43%) The Highlights ・ 47 Organisations – number of organisations that reported in Round 1 and/or Round 2 of the WASH 4W ・ 206 VDCs – where WASH interventions taking place/planned (in 15 districts) 4W – WASH May 12th 2015 Water0B Spread of water activities ‐ targeted Temporary

  • Introduction
Chapter I Introduction 1.1 Background IDD is the world’s single most significant cause of preventable brain damage and mental retardation. Twenty nine percent of the population (1570 million people) is at risk of iodine deficiency today in the world. The immense danger to health due to IDD arises from the fact that these disorders can began even before the child is born. Although iodine is needed in small amount on an average of 150mcg (100 to 300) per person per day, 1, 2 lack of iodine is associated with wide range of clinical and sub- clinical conditions. The most obvious sign of IDD is goiter, which is a gross enlargement of the thyroid gland in the neck, with a global prevalence of 12%. In addition to goiter, IDD leads to infant mortality, stillbirths, birth complications, mental retardation and depressed psychomotor functions. Moderate IDD in early childhood has been estimated to lower the intelligence quotient by about 10-15 points, while in adults it causes lethargy. 3 IDD is an important major micronutrient deficiency problem in Nepal. In some isolated mountainous area of Nepal, most of the adult woman had goiter and up to 10% of population were cretins, the severest form of IDD. 4 First nation wide clinical prevalence survey for goiter conducted in 1956 -1967 showed high prevalence of endemic goiter and cretinism. IDD prevalence survey conducted in high Trisuli and upper Langtang area during 1976-1977 revealed that the total goiter rate was 55.3%, while cretinism was 5.1%. 4 Similar survey conducted in 1979-1982 in 14 districts, the total goiter rate noted was 57.6% and cretinism prevalence was 2.8%.
