MVA Sustainable Development Initiatives 2009 Reports

Externally, MVA in Asia has been actively involved in the transport and traffic planning and advisory aspects of large-scale infrastructural projects as well as property and real-estate development tasks for public and private institutions.

Today, with the increasing awareness of the impacts on our environment, we shall be striving, as part of our professional commitment to our clients, to accord a high priority in developing and shaping solu- tions which are capable of meeting “the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”.

In many ways, this philosophy is omnipresent in who we are and what we do, and duly reflected in our transportation, planning and research consultancy projects not just in the railway sector, but also in other economic sectors, encompassing projects such as:

Study on Sustainable Transport for the Harbour with regards to the planning and development of the transport facilities along the harbourfront of the renown Victoria Harbour;

Hong Kong Island's Mid-Level District Moratorium Study to provide inputs on the sustainable development of the up-scale residential district with regards to the balance of interests of real- estate development and the current traffic congestion problems;

The Hong Kong Science Park Phase 2 Project, which received the Green Building Award whereby we acted as the Traffic Consultant;

Projects in (Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City) funded by the World Bank and Asian Development Bank on the impact of Climate Changes in these cities to provide inputs and recommendations on how public transport and mass rapid transit system can help.

Internally, we have set up a Sustainable Development Management Committee in mid December 2009, co-headed by our Managing Director and our Director in charge of quality assurance to facilitate compliance to Groupe Systra’s Sustainable Development Charter. As part of this process, the Committee will seek (a) to formulate the development of appropriate sustainable development, environmentaland quality assurance policies appropriate for our operations in Asia; (b) to enhance where appropriate our existing quality assurance system under the ISO 9001-2008 accreditation to attain a better strategic fit with the underlying principles of Groupe Systra’s Sustainable Development Charter; and (c) to develop appropriate platforms and communication channels for the promotion and dissemination ofsound sustainable development, environmental management and quality assurance practices throughout our operations in Asia.
