    L E COR- BUS- CHARLES-ÉDOUARDIER JEANNERET Charles-Édouard Jeanneret, known as Le Corbusier (October 6, 1887 – August 27, 1965), was a Swiss-French architect, designer, painter, urban planner, writer, and one of the pio- neers of what is now called modern architecture. He was born in Switzerland and became a French citizen in 1930. His career spanned five decades; he constructed buildings in Eu- rope, Japan, India, and North and South America. Dedicated to providing better living conditions for the residents of crowded cities, Le Corbusier was influential in urban planning, and was a founding member of the Congrès International d’Architecture Moderne (CIAM). Le Corbusier prepared the master plan for the city of Chandigarh in India, and contributed specific designs for several buildings there. On July 17, 2016, seventeen projects by Le Corbusier in seven countries were inscribed in the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites as “an Outstanding Contribution to the Modern Movement”. Charles-Édouard Jeanneret was born on October 6, 1887 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, a small city in the French-speaking Neuchâtel canton in north-western Switzerland, in the Jura mountains, just 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) across the border from France. It was an industrial town, devoted to the manufacture of watches. (He adopted the pseudonym Le Corbusier in 1933 of Le Corbusier in 1920). His father was an artisan who Charles-Édouard Jeanneret-Gris[1] October 6, 1887 enameled boxes and watches, while his mother gave piano La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland lessons. His elder brother Albert was an amateur violinist.     CLASSIC SYMMETRY JOSEF HOFFMANN VASES FROM 1922–1923 IN ART DECO STYLE We present a design by Josef Hoffmann from the turn of the year 1923, exceptional in its architectural rendition, proportions, and manual cut. This timeless piece commemorates the 150th anniversary of the renowned designer and architect, whose creations mark the high points of glass design of the 20th century. This edition is limited to a symbolic 150 pieces. SYMMETRY OF CUT, DESIGN AND PURITY OF CRYSTAL The 40-centimetre tall hand-cut vase is the embodiment of Moser DNA, with perfection in the overall cut and precision in the individual cuts. It may not be obvious at first glance, but this piece features one of the most complex designs that our glassmakers have ever created. Josef Hoffmann AUTHOR Austrian architect and designer Josef Hoffmann (1870–1956) was one of the founders of Viennese Art Nouveau. One of his most famous architectural achievements is the Stoclet Palace in Brussels, widely regarded as a ground- breaking example of modern architecture. In 1903, he co-founded the Wiener Werkstätte – a Viennese avant-garde art association. He also employed his creativity in household glassware, creating mainstay collections for the Wiener Werkstätte and the Viennese company Lobmeyr. At the time, the supplier and implementer of Hoffmann's unique designs for both of these organisations was none other than Moser glassworks. Hoffmann’s original vases are displayed in the Glass Museum in Passau, Germany. TECHNOLOGY AHEAD OF ITS TIME Realization at the glassworks demands absolute precision and focus from the glassmakers, not only during the blowing of the basic shape, but also when the individual parts are joined together while hot (still on the blowpipe).

    TRADIÇÃO E DIÁLOGO: ANÁLISE DO BAIXO-RELEVO DA IGREJA SÃO FRANCISCO DE ASSIS Gisele Guedes / Mestranda PPG–Artes UFMG Rodrigo Vivas / UFMG RESUMO O presente trabalho analisa o baixo-relevo realizado por Alfredo Ceschiatti que figura como espaço interno no bastistério da Igreja São Francisco de Assis em Belo Horizonte, cuja construção data de 1943. Executados por Ceschiatti em 1944, a obra é composta por quatro painéis de bronze fixados sobre uma estrutura em formato curvilíneo que delimita o batistério. O objetivo é levantar a iconografia da cena representada, relacionando os temas tradicionalmente situados no batistério e a opção temática feita pelo artista em recusar tal tradição e oferecer uma proposta inovadora. Outro aspecto presente na investigação, considerando-a em termos de “função” e “destinação”, será compreender seu significado enquanto espaço reservado à prática do sacramento católico denominado batismo. ABSTRACT The present work analyzes the bas-relief made by Alfredo Ceschiatti appearing as internal space in the baptistery of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Belo Horizonte, whose construction dates from 1943. Executed by Ceschiatti in 1944, the work is composed by four bronze panels mounted on a curvy shaped structure that delimits the baptistery. The purpose is to withdraw the iconography of the scene represented by relating the themes traditionally located in the baptistery and the thematic option made by the artist to refuse such tradition and offer an innovative proposal. Another aspect present in the investigation, considering it in terms of “function” and “destination” of this art work, is to understand its meaning as placeholder to the practice of the catholic sacrament called baptism.

Vertical and high rise buildings were ruled out, keeping in view the socio economic-conditions and living habits of the people. The master plan was to be realized in two phases, catering to a total population of half a million.
