All of this talk of 7:00-8:00 a.m. Holy Hour at St. Joseph plowing, planting, and farming makes my hands feel 8:00 a.m. Mass at St. Joseph as if they have been in the soil! These images of Living & Deceased, Bartlett & Dalby Families planting bring two important thoughts to my mind. Saturday, July 18 ~ Saint Camillus de Lellis First is that the seed of faith is a precious gift that 4:00 p.m. at St. Joseph has been given by God, but planted by someone Geraldine & George Phillip else. For most of us that is our parents, but for 6:00 p.m. at St. Stephen many it could be a friend, family member, or even Health of Helen Gollon spouse. May we thank God for that gift that is - Confessions to follow rooted in our heart. Secondly, as any farmer will tell you, though planting is necessary, it isn’t the Sunday, July 19 ~ Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time only step. You need to ensure that the precious gift 8:30 a.m. at St. Stephen will be able to grow. Just as fertilizer is placed to Members, Kosobucki & Trzebiatowski Families feed the seed, do I ensure that I am fed spiritually? 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Just as rocky ground prohibits plants to grow in Pro-Populo depth, are there rocks in my own heart that I won’t - Confessions to follow let go? Do I protect my gift of faith, or do I place it in danger by letting outside influences in? I don’t think we need to worry about crows, but do the Prayer shows we watch on tv lead us closer or farther from God? What do I do with the gift of time; do I Requests invest it or let it become a time for my hands to be idle? She is Elizabeth Ann Seton, famous for schools and or- phanages in the new United States. Most do not remember, however, how much of her life was surrounded with death. At three, she lost her mom and sister while yellow fever swept across Long Island. Tuberculosis left her a penniless widow with five, two of whom never saw their 18th birthday. Yet death somehow made Elizabeth more aware of life. She suddenly became Catholic and built her famous orphanages. Life now took radical priority because she realized its precious fragility. She found God’s consoling embrace and recognized God’s other children in that embrace. Elizabeth reminds us that mourning leads us to our real home: God brings us and others to Himself when we turn to Him in sorrow.
