Sum 41 Alive
SSUMUM 4411 AALIVELIVE IS SCREAMO B.S.? FLORIA’S FUEL IAN BLURTON~MINISTRY~THE TEA PARTY~WILDHEARTS CLAIRE STANSFIELD~MOONEY SUZUKI~DFA 1979 THE JERRY CAN The summer is the season of rock. Tours roll across the coun- try like mobile homes in a Florida hurricane. The most memo- rable for this magazine/bar owner were the Warped Tour and Wakestock, where such bands as Bad Religion, Billy Talent, Alexisonfire, Closet Monster, The Trews and Crowned King had audiences in mosh-pit frenzies. At Wakestock, in Wasaga Beach, Ont., Gasoline, Fox Racing, and Bluenotes rocked so hard at their two-day private cottage party that local authorities shut down the stage after Magneta Lane and Flashlight Brown. Poor Moneen didn't get to crush the eardrums of the drunken revellers. That was day one! Day two was an even bigger party with the live music again shut down. The Reason, Moneen and Crowned King owned the patio until Alexisonfire and their crew rolled into party. Gasoline would also like to thank Chuck (see cover story) and other UN officials for making sure that the boys in Sum41 made it back to the Bovine for another cocktail, despite the nearby mortar and gunfire during their Warchild excursion. Nice job. stick to your guns true view album download zippyshare True View. The Orange County-based melodic hardcore punk outfit's fifth full-length outing, the Pure Noise Records-issued True View delivers a message- driven blast of soaring melodies and punishing sonic might. Written during a period of personal upheaval for frontman Jesse Barnett, who notes that "this entire record was inspired by conversations I had with my mother over the last two-and-a-half years. She gave me the compass to be able to navigate this painful path." The 13-track set includes the singles "Married to the Noise," "The Sun, The Moon, The Truth: Penance of Self," and "The Reach for Me: Forgiveness of Self." The Ty_RockCity Music/Entertainment Blog. Music and Entertainment blog by Ty "Ty Rock" Jamar. Expect nothing less. Stick to Your Guns “True View” Record Release Show. Being that this is their 6 th full-length album that just came out, Stick to Your Guns embarked on a few shows: some on the East coast and some on the West coast. Eighteen Visions and Get the Shot supported the East coast show and then for the West coast shows, Eighteen Visions, Stone and Modern Color will support (Eighteen Visions will only play one show though). Personally, I have been listening to Stick to Your Guns for the past couple of years since I first heard “This Is More” and have been following them since “The Hope Division” album came out in 2010 and the single “Amber” became a hit. In my opinion, they definitely hit a mark with the preceding album “Diamond” coming out in 2012 and they had added guitarist Josh James formerly of Evergreen Terrace to solidify their lineup of seasoned vets. -

The odds of a new maga- zine being successful are pretty slim - especially in a market such as ours, a market that is controlled by such an alarmingly small number of corporations. So why have we decided to ig- nore our more sensible sides and launch a magazine like this? Quite simply, because we think it is needed. -

Yes, I have lived in California my whole life, born and raised in the Inland Empire. -How did you get your nickname “Z1”? The nickname was given to me while I was attending aviation school. We would have fun on the pilot headset’s and that was my call sign. -Can you recall your first hardcore show? Where, when and who was playing? It was a hardcore/punk show with Sick of it All, Agent Orange, and Biohazard at Spanky’s Café in Riverside, California, around the early 90’s. -
Contra Profile
TAKE YOUR PLEASURE SERIOUSLY :) Contra Promotion Starting up as a local agency in Germany’s Ruhr area in 1993, Contra Promotion has grown to become an established brand in the country’s events industry. Founder and managing director Björn Gralla leads a dedicated team. From their headquarters in Bochum, they organise around 500 concerts and shows throughout Europe every year. In 1997, Contra Promotion began arranging tours for Göttingen rock band Guano Apes. The band played a major role in the agency’s success. After splitting up several years ago, the Apes are now doing a comeback tour – and they’re back on Contra’s books. The agency has also made a name for itself with other acts from Germany and abroad. They include HIM, Sunrise Avenue, Nightwish, H-Blockx, Kevin Costner and Oomph!. Contra Promotion works with a wide range of genres, covering everything from metal and pop to jazz and soul – and even comedy acts. BJÖRN GRALLA (MANAGING DIRECtor) UND ENRICO KAROLCZAK (AGENT & TALENT BUYER) IN AN INTERVIEW: „WE’RE growing in Germany at present, but they also have a growing fanbase in Benelux, Austria, Switzerland, as well as Southern- and Eastern Europe. Guano organically“. Apes have always been big in the same markets, as well as especially Portugal. Who are the most important artists on your books at present? Contra Promotion is turning 20 in 2013. How BJÖRN GRALLA: Nightwish, Sunrise Avenue and satisfied are you with the way the agency has Guano Apes are definitely our biggest bands right developed? now. But we’re always looking for new artists, so BJÖRN GRALLA: When Contra Promotion started things can change quickly as new acts move into the up the business model was designed to grow and limelight. -

SURFING for PUNKS: the INTERNET and the PUNK SUBCULTURE in NEW JERSEY by AARON ROBERT FURGASON a Dissertation Submitted To
SURFING FOR PUNKS: THE INTERNET AND THE PUNK SUBCULTURE IN NEW JERSEY by AARON ROBERT FURGASON A Dissertation submitted to the Graduate School-New Brunswick Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Graduate Program in Communication, Information and Library Studies written under the direction of Professor Linda Steiner And approved by ________________________________ ________________________________ ________________________________ ________________________________ New Brunswick, New Jersey October, 2008 ABSTRACT OF THE DISSERTATION SURFING FOR PUNKS: THE INTERNET AND THE PUNK SUBCULTURE IN NEW JERSEY BY AARON ROBERT FURGASON Dissertation Director Professor Linda Steiner This study examines the influence of the Internet on the punk subculture in New Jersey. Previous research by academics on the effect of the Internet on popular music has centered on the impact of Napster and peer-to-peer networks on the distribution of recordings (Alexander, 2002; Ayres & Williams, 2004; Bishop, 2004; Daniel & Klimis, 1999; Fox, 2004; Mardesich, 1999; & Oberholzer & Strumpf, 2004). However, unexamined is the influence of the Internet on a specific music subculture, punk. This is important because the subculture is occupied mainly by youth engaged with both the Internet and punk music. The Internet's influence on the punk subculture is a particularly important area of study because the Internet alters how participants in the subculture (punk fans, bands and independent labels) communicate with one another, as well as changes the distribution of punk artifacts and information. ii Central to this study is the history of the major labels' dominance over the distribution and promotion of punk music, a domination examined via critical political economy theory. -
