Date: Monday, July 18, 2016 What could technically be called planned ``Phase 2'' of the rehabilitation of the Mahikeng to Lichtenburg road was officially unveiled to the public on Mandela Day little wonder, the mooted name for would be state of art road project, according to the Premier of the province, Supra Mahumapelo will be Nelson Mandela Highway. Two imposing mega size and double-sided billboards are positioned just outside Mahikeng town. One near the newly opened Bophelong Psychiatric Hospital- also opened on Mandela Day- and the other near Danville suburb. They artistic impressions on both bill boards give a glimpse to all road users of the 30km notorious section of this road, what is in store in the not so distance future. Notorious is that particular sections of the road- the portion in the vicinity of Rooigrond Prison and that gentle curve towards the Birmansdrift turn off from the direction of Mahikeng- where countless lives and limp have been lost due to fatal vehicle accidents. Back to the envisaged new-look Nelson Mandela Highway, which will be an extension of the of Nelson Mandela Street in from Mahikeng inner city: Then total length of the road to get a face-lift is 30km and this is what is expected to be special about the 10km thereof.

This body has held fifteen triennial international congresses to date, the most recent being in Leipzig in 1984. With its headquarters in Louvain, Belgium, it publishes a bibliographical and information periodical, Onoma, an indispensable aid to researchers. Since 1967 the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names (UNGEGN) has provided for co-ordination and liaison between countries to further the standardization of geographical names. To date eleven working sessions and four international conferences have been held. The construction of the proposed Eskom Project is hereafter referred to as the Eskom Project whilst the footprint of the proposed Eskom Project is referred to as the Eskom Project Area. The aims with the Phase I HIA study were the following: • To determine if any of the types and ranges of heritage resources (the ‘national estate’) as outlined in Section 3 of the National Heritage Resources Act (No 25 of 1999) do occur in the Eskom Project Area and, if so, to establish the significance of these heritage resources. • To establish the level of significance of any possible impact on these heritage resources. • To propose appropriate mitigation measures for those types and ranges of heritage resources that may be affected by the proposed Eskom Project. The Phase I HIA study for the Eskom Project revealed the following types and ranges of heritage resources as outlined in Section 3 of the National Heritage Resources Act (No 25 of 1999) in the Project Area, namely: • Two graveyards.
