Review: Roadburn Friday 20th April 2018 By Daniel Pietersen Day Two at Roadburn ‘18 and already Never wandering off into too-loose the bar is raised pretty high, with sets jam-band territory, the quartet unleash from Black Decades, Kælan Mikla and some of the best heads-down psych- Servants of the Apocalyptic Goat Rave rock I’ve seen and the crowd absolutely being my personal highlights from the lap it up over the set’s two-hour (two day before. We’ve a lot to get through, hours!) duration. though, and these bands won’t watch themselves. The Ruins of Beverast unleash a black metal stormcloud, all martial drums and lightning-strike guitars sweeping scythe-like over the field of nodding heads in a packed Green Room. It’s a ferocious, scathing display made all the more intense by the devastatingly tight musicianship. An immense start to the Panopticon (Paul Verhagen) day and that’s Roadburn in a nutshell; What Jeremy Bentham, the 18th even the first band on one of the century English philosopher who smaller stages are world class. developed the concept of the Panopticon, would think of his creation’s musical namesake is, sadly, impossible to know. I like to think that, even if the music were beyond him, the passionate social reformer would appreciate the politically relevant sentiments of the band, something which is made most obvious on their opening selection of country- influenced tracks. Banjo and mandolin Motorpsycho (Paul Verhagen) blend with mournful voices, singing of Next door, on the Main Stage, lost families and failing factories, into Motorpsycho are working up their songs that wouldn’t be out of place on groove and creating the kind of sounds, a Steve Earle record. -

Terror the 25Th Hour ENG
th “The 25 Hour” Available as: Special Edition Digipak CD, LP, Digital Album European Release Date: August 7 th , 2015 For centuries we lived without fear of repercussion, as our greed and depravity has driven us to our collapse. We have lost all compassion for our fellow man and abused everything in sight. “The 25th Hour” is upon us. Terror formed in 2002 as a direct reaction to what was occurring in the underground musical scene that they called home. Disgusted with what was being presented and passed off as hardcore, they attempted to reclaim the bastardized genre by playing the music as it had originated; in its most raw, honest and angry form. Immediately, there was a connection with likeminded people across the globe, and led the band to continually play shows all over the world. Terror started as an idea, but quickly turned into a crusade. Terror captured the ferocity that the genre had been missing, and with their amazing work ethic and nihilistic approach to touring, they became the hardcore flag-bearers of this generation. Terror’s last few albums created movements immediately upon their release. The titles summed up the current climate of hardcore music and served as a rally cry for all its believers. Their new album follows this same suit. The current incarnation of the band, which features the longest tenured lineup in their history, assembled last fall with one intent: to act defiantly in “The 25th Hour.” If this is truly our potential climax, all would be stripped away and we would return to our most basic form. -

Jude the Obscure Official Biography
Jude the Obscure Official Biography Jude the Obscure, circa 2003 Jude the Obscure had a very comfortable place in the Ontario math-core/noisecore scene throughout its existence. I believe they were the first to be called “chaoticore”. Prior to the forming of this band, Grant Freifeld (“Fuzz” on bass), Jason Rice (“Jaundice” on drums) and Chuck Leach (“the Bank”/”Bankenstein” on guitar) played together in a slew of Grimsby, Ontario high school bands, often changing name every few months. When in 1998 they decided to go “heavier”, they asked a guy in their high school who was wearing a Snapcase shirt if he wanted to to be their signer; that was James Long (“Jimbo”). With Jimbo in, Jude the Obscure was born. The final addition was one of Jason’s coworker, Jordan Passfield who was brought in as an experimental guitar player. “A New Life of Painful Sin” demo, 1999 “A New Life of Painful Sin” demo, 1999 Their first show was a house show with Rise Over Run. In 1999 they recorded 3 songs at Scott Bialik’s small basement studio, soundDOME Studio, in Hamilton, live right off the floor. Jude self-released it as their first demo “A New Life of Painful Sin”. Everyone who ever talks about this demo doesn’t speak of it nicely. Nevertheless it is a good representation of what early 2000 metalcore was like. Poster advertising “A Perfect Place” on Punx Without Mohawx Records Their high school friends, Rise Over Run, had gotten signed to the Quebec label Punx Without Mohawx Records, so Jude sent them their demo as well. -

ÚNOR / 2013 Úvodník S přelomem let 2012 a 2013 vstoupil časopis, jehož prvními řádky se právě prokousáváte, do dalšího roku svého Mighty Freezine fungování. Ve snaze zrekapitulovat tříletou cestu, kterou redakce: urazil, sešla se redakční rada u kulatého stolu a metodou Fido, Přemysl Černík, hloubkové analýzy zhodnotila všechna dosavadní čísla. Kubaak, Marcel Musil, Postačí, že mezi výsledky tohoto vyčerpávajícího jednání, Petr Vlček, Vojta Holub, jež přítomná zapisovatelka zaznamenala do čtyřech svazků tloušťky tajných mezinárodních paktů, bylo poukázáno také Kejmy, Anselmo na fakt, že úvodník je stále stejný.
