ABSTRACT FIREWORKS AND SEX! by David Rothfuss Fireworks and Sex! is a new religion I’m launching so I can get rich without paying taxes. The religious document that follows, which you’re probably not even allowed to read on account of copyright restrictions, is pretty standard as religious documents go, providing you, the religious consumer, with 205 pages of morally ambiguous poems, fables and doodles to base your life upon. It is by far the most American religion out there, and a sure-fire path to a shinier existence, with the average follower experiencing 74% more happiness, 93% more freedom, and 87% more American Dream than those in other religions. If you were allowed to read it, which you’re not, it would provide you with an inside track to God and eternal salvation. • The Time Traveler's Wife
When Henry meets Clare, he is twenty-eight and she is twenty. He is a hip librarian; she is a beautiful art student. Henry has never met Clare before; Clare has known Henry since she was six... “A powerfully original love story. BOTTOM LINE: Amazing trip.” —PEOPLE “To those who say there are no new love stories, I heartily recommend The Time Traveler’s Wife, an enchanting novel, which is beautifully crafted and as dazzlingly imaginative as it is dizzyingly romantic.” —SCOTT TUROW AUDREY NIFFENEGGER’S innovative debut, The Time Traveler’s Wife, is the story, of Clare, a beautiful art student, and Henry, an adventuresome librarian, who have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was thirty-six, and were married when Clare was twenty-three and Henry thirty-one. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity from his life, past and future. His disappearances are spontaneous, his experiences unpredictable, alternately harrowing and amusing. The Time Traveler’s Wife depicts the effects of time travel on Henry and Clare’s marriage and their passionate love for each other, as the story unfolds from both points of view. Clare and Henry attempt to live normal lives, pursuing familiar goals— steady jobs, good friends, children of their own. All of this is threatened by something they can neither prevent nor control, making their story intensely moving and entirely unforgettable. THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE a novel by Audrey Niffenegger Clock time is our bank manager, tax collector, police inspector; this inner time is our wife.

  • Suzan Cooke Interview
GLBT Historical Society http://www.glbthistory.org Suzan Cooke Interview by Susan Stryker in association with the Gay and Lesbian Historical Society of Northern California and Joanne Meyerowitz, University of Cincinnati January 10,1998 Hollywood, California Introduction Suzy Cooke was born in upstate New York in 1947. She had been discovered cross- dressing by her parents during early adolescence and felt that the abuse they heaped on her until she left home deeply affected her self-image and her subsequent life path. She was active in the anti-war and student movements by 1967, and had spent some time in New York City's gay street scene, on the fringes of Andy Warhol's crowd. About this same time she had begun trying to contact Dr. Harry Benjamin, after reading his book, The Transsexual Phenomenon, and learning that sex-reassignment had become available in the United States. She moved to the San Francisco Bay Area later in 1967 first to the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood and then to Berkeley-where she participated in the youth counterculture, radical politics, early gay liberation, and feminism. She began transitioning male-to-female in January, 1969. Cooke became one of the staff members of the transsexual center in the Tenderloin in 1971. She wrote a successful grant application to the Erickson Educational Foundation for the center's operational expenses after federal "war on poverty" money dried up during the Nixon administration. Cooke had genital surgery with Dr. Donald Laub at Stanford in 1972. In 1973, Cooke was a principal figure in the drug sting thatSFPD orchestrated to shut down the transsexual center and scuttle director Elliot Blackstone's career with the police department.
