Ils seront 18 700 à l’horizon 2020 (étude Insee 2014). Pour répondre aux besoins découlant de la forte poussée démographique que connaissent les Landes ces dix dernières années (+ 17,70 %), le Département crée de nouveaux collèges. Cinq ont été construits entre 2004 et 2014, et le collège de Labrit ouvre cette année. Les études concernant les 39e et 40e collèges sont d’ores et déjà engagées. Le prochain établissement verra le jour à Angresse à l’horizon 2019-2020. 1re rentrée scolaire au collège départemental de Labrit Le Conseil départemental a assuré la maîtrise d’ouvrage et le financement intégral des opérations de construction des bâtiments pour un montant de 17 millions d’euros. L’objectif étant de réaliser un collège à taille humaine, fonctionnel et évolutif.
