    July 18, 2016 – Second Session Issue July 18, 2016 – Second Session Issu July 20, 2016 – The Dance Night 2k16 Edition Dance Night 2k16 by Robbie Rolfe There could not have been a nicer evening for a very competitive dance night. Special hosts PETE “ME HOW TO DOUGIE” COLE, WILL “MACKERANER” LANE and myself, ROBBIE “ROCK AND ROLFE,” were flown in from all over the world for this spectacular event. Starting the night off were cabin 3. They stepped up on the outside stage, on the top Basketball courts, opposite Wasserman Hall with their song being Flo Rida’s “My House.” It was a brave move for them being the first ones up but they did a really good job with PIERCE MCKENZIE doing a black flip and AARON PELTS doing the worm. They also had some well thought of, homemade props as well to add to their opening routine. Cabin 4 and 5 did “Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars and the, ever so popular dance move “The Dab” was featured several times during both cabins performances. Cabin 7 did a special performance which was inspired by our very own Woody! Lucky Canteen Number 81. They danced to Michael Jackson’s “Blame it on the Boogie,” and they did the dance routine that Woody teaches everyone during a game of Musical Chairs that he normally hosts during pre-camp or post- camp. Cabin’s 9 and 15 did the “Harlem Shake.” HUNTER ROBERTS was an expert at performing the dance move called “The Wobble,” CALEB SAKS and JACK SACKS picked ROBBIE YASTROW up and did a backwards flip and ZACH MEYERS did the worm very well too.

    When I open my eyes, I'm floating in the air in an inky, black void. The air feels cold to the touch, my body shivering as I instinctively hugged myself. My first thought was that this was an awfully vivid nightmare and that someone must have left the AC on overnight. I was more than a little alarmed when I wasn't quite waking up, and that pinching myself had about the same amount of pain as it would if I did it normally. A single star twinkled into existence in the empty void, far and away from reach. Then another. And another. Soon, the emptiness was full of shining stars, and I found myself staring in wonder. I had momentarily forgotten about the biting cold at this breath-taking sight before a wooden door slammed itself into my face, making me fall over and land on a tile ground. I'm pretty sure that wasn't there before. Also, OW. Standing up and not having much better to do, I opened the door. Inside was a room with several televisions stacked on top of each other, with a short figure wrapped in a blanket playing on an old NES while seven different games played out on the screen. They turned around and looked at me, blinking twice with a piece of pocky in their mouth. I stared at her. She stared back at me. Then she picked up a controller laying on the floor and offered it to me. "Want to play?" "So you've been here all alone?" I asked, staring at her in confusion, holding the controller as I sat nearby.

Against a background of cold blue sky and black pine forests and treacherous northern rivers, plumed adventures planted the flags of England and or of France; magnificent savages bent their backs to the portage. For several weeks before Christmas, my father worked after supper in the cellar of our house. The cellar was whitewashed, and lit by a hundred-watt bulb over the worktable. My brother Laird and I sat on the top step and watched. My father removed the pelt inside-out from the body of the fox, which looked surprisingly small, mean, and rat-like, deprived of its arrogant weight of fur. The naked, slippery bodies were collected in a sack and buried in the dump. One time the hired man, Henry Bailey, had taken a swipe at me with this sack, saying, "Christmas present!" My mother thought that was not funny. In fact she disliked the whole pelting operation--that was what the killing, skinning, and preparation of the furs was called – and wished it did not have to take place in the house. There was the smell. After the pelt had been stretched inside-out on a long board my father scraped away delicately, removing the little clotted webs of blood vessels, the bubbles of fat; the smell of blood and animal fat, with the strong primitive odour of the fox itself, penetrated all parts of the house.
