CLARK, an Old World prehistorian, has done field work in France, Spain, and Turkey, and in the southwestern United States. His interests include preagricultural coastal adaptations (with which this monograph is concerned), paleoecology, archaeozool ogy, and archaeological site catchment analysis. Since 1968 he has been involved in research on Late Pleistocene hunter-gatherers in northern coastal Spain. Clark received his bachelor's degree (magna cum laude with Honors, 1966) and master's degree (1967) from the University of Arizona, and his doctoral degree from the University of Chicago (1971). He is a Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Arizona State University and has published papers on quantitative methods, the role of statistics in archae ological research designs, and human evolution.
