NOTE: Be sure to check OASIS to determine which vehicles are affected. Not all vehicles built within the time frames shown are affected. Reasons For Recall The passenger side air bag Supplemental Restraint System may have an inflator body that cracked during forming of the curl that retains the igniter plug in the end of the inflator. If the vehicle is involved in a deployment level crash, the passenger-side air bag may not inflate properly which could result in reduced occupant protection. The addition, the igniter plug may separate from the inflator, which could result in the release of hot gasses and could ignite flammable material and cause personal injury. To correct this condition, dealers are to remove and inspect the passenger side air bag module and replace those having air bag serial numbers that identify the module as potentially defective. Warning To Occupants ALWAYS WEAR THE SAFETY BELT. All occupants of a vehicle, including the driver, should always wear their safety belts, whether or not an air bag Supplemental Restraint System is provided at their seating position. Failure to do so may increase the risk of injury or death in the event of a collision. Rental Cars Ford Motor Company will pay for rental cars until the new air bag arrives and is installed. Under no circumstances should a vehicle be returned to the owner without a verified air bag module installed. Ford will not cover fuel, which will be at owner's expense. Dealers must stay within ESP guidelines of $25.00 a day.
