  • Historical Derby Fleet List
DERBY BOROUGH TRANSPORT HISTORICAL FLEET LIST This list is not complete - Please email any additions or corrections to this list - thanks! Some notes on Derby's fleet numbering may be helpful. The prewar motorbus series reached 73, and the first wartime utility bus (a solitary Bristol K) took the fleet number 74. The series then reverted to 1, with 1-21 being Daimler and Guy utilities. By 1949, however, the new series was 'catching up' with the earlier prewar numbers, hence the jump from 41 to 75 to avoid duplication. This series then continued right up to 315, delivered in 1981; lowheight double deckers and coaches were numbered in separate series, as were the four Daimlers acquired secondhand from Halifax. A new series for new-generation double deckers was begun in 1978 by Foden NC number 101. Trolleybuses followed on from the tram series, with the first one (79) arriving in 1932; the series then continued unbroken to 243 of 1960. The motorbus series nearly caught up with the trolleybus numbers in 1966, but the complete withdrawal of trolleybus services in 1967 eliminated this problem. Trolleybuses F/No Reg. • Bus Operators Finding Aid
Falkirk Archives (Archon Code: GB558) FALKIRK ARCHIVES Records of Businesses Bus Operators Finding Aid Walter Alexander & Sons Ltd Walter Alexander began running buses in the Falkirk area in 1914. The first Charabanc New Belhaven (convertible to lorry) arrived in the spring of 1913 and another Belhaven (second hand) also convertible to lorry, was acquired in either 1915 or 1916. During the First World War the company was limited to private hires and haulage and a service was run on Saturdays and Sundays between Falkirk and Bonnybridge. Another charabanc, a W.D. Leyland, was introduced to replace one of the Belhaven's in 1919. Walter Alexander took a private party to John O'Groats in the summer of 1919 and it is supposed to be the first charabanc to have arrived there. The company of W Alexander & Sons Ltd was formed in 1924. The routes expanded to include Stirling-Glasgow in 1925 and Perth - Glasgow in 1926. In 1927 the company acquired Elliott & Begg of Perth. In 1929 W Alexander & Sons were acquired as a subsidiary of SMT (The Scottish Motor Traction Co) and became the area company for most of the east of Scotland north of the Forth. Other bus companies acquired by SMT as subsidiaries to W Alexander & Sons included The Pitlochry Motor Co, Simpson's & Forresters (based in Fife) and the Scottish General Omnibus Group (based in Falkirk). The Scottish General Omnibus Group included Dunsire of Falkirk, the bus section of Wemyss Tramways, Penman of Bannockburn, the bus section of Dunfermline Tramways, the General Motor Carrying Co of Kirkcaldy and the Northern Omnibus Services of Elgin.

  • Friends of Classic London Buses of the Fifties for Those Actively Involved in Or Supporting the Preservation of London Buses, Coaches and Trolleybuses of the Past
Friends of Classic London Buses of the Fifties For those actively involved in or supporting the preservation of London buses, coaches and trolleybuses of the past Here is a nice wintry shot of RT 1426, one of the Country area's Cravens-bodied examples, waiting to go to home to Windsor from Uxbridge, long ago, via the picturesque-sounding Iver Heath, George Green, Upton Lea and more mundane Wexham Road, Slough and Eton. I cannot speak for those places at the time the photograph was taken, but in more recent times it has been hard to see anything remotely rural, bucolic or delightful about any of them, and Upton Lea is nothing but a large and uninspiring housing estate on the edge of Slough. Life can be so disappointing at times! Photo by Michael Dryhurst. Newsletter 162 February 2020 Opening Lines First of all, many thanks to all those “Friends” who kindly sent us seasonal greetings at what is nowadays regarded as the “festive” season. These are of course warmly reciprocated. Thanks also to those many individuals who contribute to this monthly mayhem. All contributions are gratefully received and as many as possible are used. It matters not if you send a couple of lines or several pages, it all helps to keep us all in touch. I would also now ask vehicle owners to think about keeping us posted, especially in the case of those buses and coaches which rarely, if ever, appear in public. Many members like to know that these “ghost” buses still exist and are being cared for, or stored, or even under extensive restoration.

PDF-119-2 Page 2 John Fishwick & Sons 1907-2015 After a spell working with the Leyland Steam Motor Company in Leyland, John Fishwick decided to start his own haulage business. In 1907 he purchased a steam wagon from his former employers and began hauling rubber from the local works to Liverpool and Manchester. In 1910 he purchased another Leyland vehicle - this time a Leyland X-type with petrol engine that was used as a lorry but could be fitted with a very basic style of wagonette body seating 30 passengers for a Saturday only service to Leyland market from Eccleston, that commenced in 1911. More vehicles followed, most of which had interchangeable bodies for use as a lorry as well as a bus. Soon John Fishwick was operating a number of routes serving Preston, Chorley and Ormskirk.

  • Buses That We Don't Have Current Details For
Check List - buses that we don't have current details for The main lists on our website show the details of the many thousands of open top buses that currently exist throughout the world, and those that are listed as either scrapped or for scrap. However, there are a number of buses in our database that we don’t have current details for, that could still exist or have been scrapped. The buses listed on this page are those that we need to confirm the location and status of. These buses do not appear on any of our other lists, so if you're looking for a particular vehicle, it could be here. Please have a look at this page and if you can update any of it, even if only a small piece of information that helps to determine where a bus is now, then please contact us using the link button on the Front Page. The buses are divided into lists in Chassis manufacturer order. ? REG NO / LICENCE PLATE CHASSIS BODY STATUS/LAST KNOWN OWNER J2374 ? ?
