Justin has settled into the role really well after a number of years on the Board. He has done a wonderful job guiding us through what has been one of the toughest periods in our history. His passion and commitment to the Club is un- questionable, and I look forward to working with Justin as we continue to strive to be a high performing organisation both on and off the field. Post season, to add to the already difficult year, our coach Mark Stone received an offer from the Brisbane Lions that was too good to refuse. Mark made an incredible contribution to our Club in the three years he was with us. I believe the influence he had on changing the culture of our Club ranks with what Neil Kerley was able to achieve when he came to the Club in 1967. The role of Strategy Coach in Brisbane is a perfect position for Mark. I would like to wish Mark, Kerry, Lila and Lenny all the best in their new adventure in Queensland and thank them for their commitment to the Glenelg Football Club. The positive side to Mark leaving the Club late in the year was that Brett Hand became available to coach the Club after de- parting Greater Western Sydney. Brett has a wealth of expe- rience in the AFL system, including five years as Head Coach of their NEAFL and also coaching St Marys in the NTFL to two premierships. He came out of self-isolation on January 19th and flew to Darwin on January 20th. The five days in Darwin gave him a great opportunity to spend time with the players. He has settled into his role really well and we are all looking forward to him leading a successful Glenelg team in season 2021. We also welcome Brett Exelby to the Club as League Assistant Coach and Joel Tucker as our Reserves Coach. Our performances on the field weren’t as impressive as in 2019, but I felt, given the turnover of players, we finished around where we deserved to. We have recruited well, and have Chris Curran returning from medical studies in Renmark to be with us LIAM MCBEAN | FIRST SEMI FINAL V SOUTH ADELAIDE full-time, and Aaron Joseph returning from retirement, so I am PHOTOGRAPHER: GORDON ANDERSON expecting a bold showing this year. GLENELG FOOTBALL CLUB 2020 ANNUAL REPORT | PAGE 3 The financial result was also extremely positive with the Club achieving a $555,889 consolidated net profit. This is the fifth CHRIS CURRAN | ROUND 4 V WEST ADELAIDE PHOTOGRAPHER: GORDON ANDERSON year in a row that we have written a profit, which enables the Club the opportunity to reinvest into our football resources and facilities for our members, supporters and local community. Our debt position remains our biggest challenge and a major focus of the Board. The excellent relationship we have with the City of Holdfast Bay Council (COHFB) continues, and we are working through these financial challenges with them. Thanks to Aman- da Wilson (Mayor), Roberto Bria (CEO of COHFB) and the COHFB elected members for their continued support. We have provid- ed a financial executive summary in the annual report that suc- cinctly details our current financial position for you, rather than me expanding on it here. I would like to thank the Board in particular that have worked extremely hard to drive success and a strong culture at the Club, thank you for your support and commitment. To Justin Scripps, Kristin Jeffery, Paul Sandercock, Mark Stone, Emma Ross and Damien Owens, the effort you all put in during 2020 has been outstanding, and your passion for the Club and the hard work and genuine care you and your teams show ensure we continue to improve both on and off the field. A list of acknowledgements is printed later in the report thank- ing everyone who was involved last season, so I will not repeat that. However, to all our sponsors at every level, thank you for your continued association with the Glenelg Football Club. Without your support we could not survive. To all the volunteers, members, past players and supporters, MARK STONE thank you for remaining loyal to the Tigers. As a Club we will be PHOTOGRAPHER: GORDON ANDERSON doing everything in our power to ensure 2021 will be another year to enjoy and remember. 2021 will bring new challenges that we have not faced before as our Club community learns to live with COVID. I am confident that our football team, coaches, football support staff, volun- teers, Club staff, Board, sponsors and supporters will team to- gether to overcome every adversity. Thank you again for your support during my first year as Presi- dent, and please join up as a member if you are not already, as without you it is not possible for the Club to achieve sustained success. Peter Carey President GLENELG FOOTBALL CLUB 2020 ANNUAL REPORT | PAGE 4 EXECUTIVE FINANCIAL SUMMARY Glenelg Football Club Inc & Glenelg Footballers’ Club Inc Financial Summary for the 31 October 2020 Financial Statements: The consolidated Statutory Net Profit for the year ended 31 October 2020 for the Glenelg Football Club Trust (Venue) and the Glenelg Football Club (Football) was $555,889. The leading factors in producing this was the overwhelming support from Members and Sponsors during an extremely difficult year dealing with COVID-19 and the Government Stimulus the clubs were able to access. The results of 2019 had put the Club in an unprecedented LUKE PARKS | ROUND 10 V NORTH ADELAIDE financial situation upon which the plan for 2020 was to capitalize PHOTOGRAPHER: GORDON ANDERSON on the success and further add to the increasing stability of our financial future. As concerns grew surrounding the global pandemic, focus shifted away from growth to survival. Faced with the prospect of long term shutdowns, cashflow projections and scenario what- if calculations became the normal routine for every day. These worst case projections gave a story of large losses and financial security erosion. Throughout March, April and May, careful management of the financial resources was fundamental to ensure that we were able to pay all creditors and to keep staff financial. During this time the Club faced depleting cashflows and we were focused on innovative ways to generate income. Thankfully we were able to return to trade during June, although at a reduced capacity and with higher costs associated with COVID compliance.
