During the finals series last year we got a glimpse of how passionate our supporters are and we want to see the red and blue faithful turn the MCG into a fortress this season. Our players thrive off the energy our fans provide, and I have full confidence that with this support, we can achieve something special as a group in the near future. SEASON GUIDE 2019 | 6 5 CHRISTIAN PETRACCA Christian has done everything right DOB: 04/01/96 over the pre-season to get his body set for 2019 and I think he could take Height: 186cm his game to the next level this year. Weight: 96kg I don’t think anyone questions his talent, so we’ll continue to work with Games: 63 him and get the best out of him. 6 JORDAN LEWIS Jordan is a tremendous leader for DOB: 24/04/86 this group. He’s handed over the vice- captaincy this season, but he’s still a Height: 186cm real asset for the group and is like an on- Weight: 86kg field coach to a degree. We still expect Jordan to play an important role in the Games: 307 side, but more importantly he is helping some of the younger boys develop. 8 JAKE LEVER Jake’s commitment to his ACL recovery DOB: 05/03/96 has been exceptional. He had a minor hiccup prior to Christmas but he’s Height: 195cm travelling really well and should be a Weight: 92kg huge addition for us in the back-half of the year. Jake also just travelled to Games: 67 America to fast track his rehab and I think that has done wonders for his confidence. 7 | SEASON GUIDE 2019 9 CHARLIE SPARGO Charlie had an impressive debut DOB: 25/11/99 season playing 18 games and we expect him to continue to improve Height: 173cm this year. He’s had a good summer and Weight: 71kg he’s eager to learn, so he’s an exciting one to watch up forward. Games: 18 10 ANGUS BRAYSHAW Gus is really flying at the moment. DOB: 09/01/96 He had a massive year last year and continues to go from strength to Height: 187cm strength. His running has become a Weight: 87kg weapon of his game and he should develop into a crucial midfielder for Games: 58 us this season. 11 MAX GAWN LEADERSHIP GROUP It’s hard not to be impressed by Max. DOB: 30/12/91 He’s hardly missed a session over the pre-season and he’s an elite Height: 208cm athlete for a man of his size. He’s Weight: 109kg really enjoyed working with Preussy at training and there’s no doubt he’s Games: 99 ready for another big year. SEASON GUIDE 2019 | 8 12 TOBY BEDFORD Toby was an academy player for the DOB: 27/05/00 club and he’s settled in really well at Melbourne during his first summer. Height: 178cm He’ll take time to fully develop his Weight: 69kg craft but he’s a great runner and an exciting pressure player. Games: - 13 CLAYTON OLIVER Clayton obviously had a slower start DOB: 22/07/97 to the pre-season with his double shoulder operation, but he has done Height: 187cm everything right to be primed for the Weight: 83kg start of the year. He didn’t miss a beat in the JLT games and he’s only Games: 60 going to improve this season, which is going to be exciting to see. 14 MICHAEL HIBBERD Hibbo has been one of the standouts DOB: 03/01/90 this summer. Over the last week the next generation of female footballers have taken to the field in the annual Youth Girls National Championships. The Grand Final was played Friday night as a curtain- raiser to the Richmond vs Hawthorn AFL game at the MCG, and fingers crossed we saw a Victorian team holding aloft the Championship trophy at the end of the game. Whatever the result though, in a few years’ time names like Katherine Smith, Izzy Huntington, Georgina Walker and Lily Mithen are likely to be names we hear called on a regular basis at venues like the MCG in the national women’s league. Anticipation has been at fever pitch over recent weeks with AFL clubs confirming their intentions to apply for a licence, with an AFL women’s competition set to kick off in early 2017. Submissions closed at the end of April and it was pleasing to see the coverage given to the host of applications in the lead-up to the deadline. Victoria will field the most teams of any state, which will be just reward for those local players that are draft ed to the yet-to-be-determined teams in our state. While they wait, it is the fans that get to enjoy these players week in, week out in our VFL Women’s and VWFL competitions before they become household names across Australia.

Auskick Our Auskickers were brilliant to kick off the weekend. With more than 120 kids for Grandparents and Special Friends Day, the boys and girls had a ball playing against their special person/s that came to help each of the coaches teach some of the fundamentals for our next generation of Demons. Michelle and the team are fantastic giving guidance on how to play and giving each of the kids a game at the end of the session. It is a sight to see the kids and the parents all get behind the song and give our song the gusto to set the weekend of sport. Seniors Saturday morning and the thirds were on fire to kick off our seniors footy with 11.15-81 against Endeavour Hills 6.5-41. The Reserves then backed up the day with a very good game of fast, dramatic footy kicking 20.11-131 to Chelsea Heights 6.5-41. The Reserves lead the Div 1 Reserves Ladder leading into this week’s home game (McKinnon Reserve) on Saturday at Midday against Bentleigh. Our seniors Div 1 team then finished off the Saturday events to see St Pauls kick 17.16-118 to Chelsea 5.6-36. This secured St Paul’s into 3rd position and heading into a clash against Bentleigh on Saturday this week at 2.15pm. Please feel free to come on down to the ground to watch our boys in action.

APPLICATION These State & Territory Tribunal Guidelines (Guidelines) apply to Australian Football State Leagues (and other leagues at the discretion of Controlling Bodies) conducted or administered by one of the following Controlling Bodies: (a) NSW/ACT: AFL (NSW/ACT) Commission Ltd ACN 086 839 385; (b) NT: AFL Northern Territory Limited ACN 097 620 525; (c) QLD: AFL Queensland Limited ACN 090 629 342; (d) SA: South Australian National Football League Inc ABN 59 518 757 737; (e) TAS: Football Tasmania Limited ACN 085 213 350; (f) Victoria: Australian Football League (Victoria) Limited ACN 147 664 579; (g) WA: West Australian Football Commission Inc ABN 51 167 923 136. A Controlling Body may, at its discretion, apply part or all of these Guidelines to additional leagues conducted or administered by, or affiliated with, that Controlling Body. Where these Guidelines are adopted by a Controlling Body, the players, coaches, officials, spectators, administrators and any other people reasonably connected to that Controlling Body (and the applicable State League or other league) will be required to comply with these Guidelines. 2 2. COMPETITION TRIBUNAL RULES 2.1 Appointment of Tribunal Members The Controlling Body may, from time to time, appoint persons to the Tribunal. 2.2 Tribunal Members The Tribunal shall consist of: (a) a Chairperson; and (b) a panel of persons who in the opinion of the Controlling Body possess a sufficient knowledge of Australian Football (Tribunal Panel). Persons appointed to the roles in section 2.2(a) and 2.2(b) may be rotated from hearing to hearing, as determined by the Controlling Body in its absolute discretion.

    VFL Round 1 14 - 17 April 2017 $3.00 Photo: Cameron Grimes New VFL season begins Welcome to season 2017 in the Peter Jackson VFL. Plenty has happened since last September when Footscray was crowned premier. We have seen 13 VFL players provided with an AFL opportunity, selected in the 2016 NAB AFL national and rookie draft s. Casey and Geelong both produced three draft ees, with Coburg, Footscray and North Ballarat providing two draft ees each. The pleasing aspect has been seeing the likes of Tom Stewart, Mitch Hannan, Robbie Fox and Tim Smith debut in the early rounds of the AFL season. The competition this year will feature 14 clubs, with Frankston not provided a VFL licence for the 2017 season. The club has had a rich history of providing a pathway and opportunities for footballers in the region – none more evident than the debut for Sydney in recent weeks of 2014 Fothergill-Round Medal winner Nic Newman. However, it was decided at the end of last year that without the necessary off -field structures in place, AFL Victoria was not confident financial projections provided by the club could be met. We have a strong willingness to ensure there is a VFL presence in the region into the future, but it must be viable and sustainable both on and off the field in the long term. This has been highlighted in the regular communication AFL Victoria has had with the new board at the club. In other pre-season news, at the VFL Season Launch last week we revealed there will be a triple-header of matches for the 2017 Victorian state league Grand Final day at Etihad Stadium on Sunday September 24.
