There will be an Eclipse of the Moon on the 3 1st of May in the evening, of which a small fragment only will be seen here, the Moon will rise (1 62 digits eclipsed) at 7h. 27m. and the Eclipse will end at 7h. 35m. II. There will be an eclipse of the Sun on the 15th of June, at 7h. 30m. in the evening, invisible here, visible in the South Pacific and Great Southern Oceans. III. There will be an eclipse of the Sun on the 10th of November, at4h. 40m. in the morning, invisible. Visible only in a small por- tion of the Great Southern Ocean. IV. Taylor One of the most fascinating controversies to emerge from Maine’s role in the War of 1812 is whether William King, the leader of Maine’s Democratic-Republican party and the state’s first governor, illegally traded with the British. Throughout King’s political career, charges were hurled that many of his vessels had operated in violation of the revenue laws. These charges remained unsubstantiated rumors spread by his Federalist political opponents until 1824 when two of his estranged political proteges, Benjamin Ames and Joseph F. Wingate, Jr., anonymously published The Disclosure No. 1: Documents Relating to Violations and Evasions of the Laws During the Commercial Restrictions and Late War With Great Britain, etc., a collection of letters and depositions intended to prove that King and his good friend, Mark Langdon Hill, were indeed guilty of smuggling.

    Bicentennial Celebration of the United States Attorneys 1789 - 1989 "The United States Attorney is the representative not of an ordinary party to a controversy, but of a sovereignty whose obligation to govern impartially is as compelling as its obligation to govern at all; and whose interest, therefore, in a criminal prosecution is not that it shall win a case, but that justice shall be done. As such, he is in a peculiar and very definite sense the servant of the law, the twofold aim of which is that guilt shall not escape or innocence suffer. He may prosecute with earnestness and vigor– indeed, he should do so. But, while he may strike hard blows, he is not at liberty to strike foul ones.
